Artist Teaches Us What 138 Cotton Balls Rolling on Cardboard Sounds Like

Single-named artist Zimoun created an installation in Bergen, Norway that features 138 motorized cotton balls rolling across cardboard. Each cotton ball is attached to a DC motor and placed inside a 40x40x40cm cardboard, each of which are placed in rows and stacked on top of each other to create a wall of motorized cotton balls with little cardboard homes. The motors are turned on, the cotton balls begin rolling on the cardboard, and art is born. Yes, art is weird sometimes, and Zimoun’s installation sounds kind of silly at first, but check out the large version of the video, pop in some headphones, turn down the lights, watch the video, and the meditative state the sound of 138 rolling cotton balls puts you in may explain the “art” part of the installation.
