18 Things You Didn’t Know About Firefly [Infographic]

Firefly, as many Joss Whedon fans will tell you, was fantastic. Its quick cancellation after only eleven episodes wasn’t due to the quality of the show, but more due to the way that Fox handled the show, showing episodes out of order, never having aired three of the series’ fourteen episodes, and even going so far as to not air the first episode (which was double the length of a regular episode) of the show, which contained most of the characters’ backstory and set up the show for the future. Firefly is missed to this day, and many of us (or at least one of us who may or may not be writing this) can’t even get into other space dramas because they just make us miss Firefly.

While we don’t have new episodes of the show to keep us satiated, the folks at CarSort put together this infographic filled with 18 neat facts about the show that we may not have know. Did you know that Neil Patrik Harris was turned down for the role of Simon? You should probably read on below and learn some Firefly trivia.

*sigh* I miss this show. Thank dog it is on blu-ray…

  • Revvy

    It’s “Serenity”, not “The Serenity”.

  • Asreal

Fox deserve a slap for screwing this series up – even my folks will happily watch this!

  • Talesin BatBat

Another example of Fox mismanagement and retardation.
Toss it on in a crappy timeslot (DVR’d programs don’t count for ratings!), show it out of order (because Fox wants IN THE ACTION, NOW!! shows), don’t advertise… I *wonder* why it failed. Or exactly how ‘difficult’ that choice was for a know-nothing executive.

For the love of god, please learn where sentences begin and end, and use punctuation accordingly.

Uhm, when you’re refering to the physical ship as opposed to the movie (which is what the line in question did) it is The Serenity.

  • Daintress

Actually, Inara specifically said it’s “just Serenity” in the episode where they rescue a Reaver from the derelict. It’s while she’s talking to the commander of the Alliance ship that takes them onboard.

Searching for anything related to Firefly because I’m feeling nostalgic. Love the ’18 things’. Actually are a few on the list that I didn’t know.

Don’t know if the Fox Idgit..er..Exec…really had a hard time making the decision or not. But if it is true then she should have gone with her gut instead of the numbers. The numbers don’t always tell the truth. Which should have been abundantly clear when the Browncoats declared war on Fox. Never will understand why they didn’t bring it back. They must have asked themselves the same question repeatedly over the last ten years as the fan base continued to grow and grow. And kicked their own posteriors repeatedly.
