21 Amazing Minecraft Creations

If you haven’t been paying attention to the internet lately, a little game called Minecraft kind of took it over. It’s been around for a while, existing in an alpha state for quite some time now, but recent coverage from an excellent Rock, Paper, Shotgun Minecraft play journal, as well as recent coverage from Penny Arcade, seem to have brought Minecraft to the masses, actually flooding the servers with new traffic and sparking the creator, Notch, to instate a free-to-play weekend while the servers are down.

For the uninitiated, Minecraft is an indie game with a humongous cult following, consisting of gameplay representative of the two words that make up its name. Basically, you mine, then you craft. Though the game features breathtaking (don’t let the deliberately old school art style fool you, courtesy of Rock, Paper, Shotgun) exploration in a randomly generated world, the main meat of the game takes a cue from creation games like LittleBigPlanet or Spore, and provides a very comprehensive crafting and building mechanic that routinely causes players to realize it’s now six hours later.

Like all creation games, players build some ridiculously incredible things within the confines of the limiting game code, and like all creation games, it can be a pain to go searching for these astounding creations. Luckily for you, that’s where we come in. We’ve scoured the internet and found some of the most impressive Minecraft creations to date and packaged them all in a tidy location for your viewing pleasure.

    Tried it all you had to do is place blocks to make stuff so as to brag to your friends.
    No thanks. I know 3D animation I can easily make 10x better looking and higher quality architecture and objects within minutes. Why waste hours simply trying to place a block? Some people it seems like to do things hard way and apparently like to pay for it. Now I know why America. and Europe are on decline….

    For many reasons. For example, many of us have grown up with Lego and enjoy a game with a rich ruleset with some rules bordering on the chaotic and the randomness found in the real world.
    You should be more humble and accept that there is a flora of people interested in all kinds of stuff. If you don’t like it, take your ass over to the Blender forums and watch their “fine-culture” :)

    In my opinion people who act like drones to the hype are close minded.
    I am all for creativity and building but why not use a 3d animation tool to create much awesomer stuff and gain an useful skill which can be used on job applications rather than wasting hour to dig a yellow block?
    Sorry if I sound rude but reality is cruel and wasting dozens of hours of life to dig a pixellated block in the name of fun and paying for that is absurd.

    Lol wow cant beat minecraft nub. have you played it? i used to play wow, same old questing killing, following the rules, in minecraft, you can do what ever you want to… i stopped playing wow to play minecraft… there is nothing more satisfying then creating a huge castle and knowing you had to mine out half a continent to make it… has a sence of accomplishment that getting a new peice of gear on wow cant match… and cod? different type of game entirely, if fps is your interest then play cod, you cant compare it to minecraft

    Your comment wasn’t “rude” as such, but you seem to have a very limited understanding of the game. You’ve obviously only tried the free “creative mode”, which isn’t what Minecraft’s about.

    “Survival mode” is where people get attached to the game. You see, at night monsters come out, forcing you to take shelter. You start off with nothing but your hands and whatever hole you manage to dig out.

    After a while, you create tools and eventually transport to make things easier. And whatever you create should be a result of thriving in your environment, based on what you can find. Think of it as a caveman simulator, except there’s only one caveman and half of your resources are underground.

    It’s hard to explain, but it gives a sense of achievement that simply “using Lego to make stuff” doesn’t.

    You can probably pirate a fairly updated version by now. ;)

    So from what your saying because the game is pixallated doesnt make it a good game? 3D by definition is the act of putting depth to a graphic the quality of the 3D or the animation is based on the engine used, textures, and amount of pixels. All animation is made up of pixels its just the amount of pixels that define the smoothness.     Same, I stopped wow to play Minecraft here’s some reasons
    1. much more cost effective. Minecraft currently is only £13.13p as wow cost about £40-50 just to start playing, and you need to pay monthly subscription.
    2.This game is crazily good and its still got a long way to go and more items and ideas yet to finish it. Wow gets boring sitting in Orgrammar or Stormwind all day waiting on a raid.
    3.Minecraft is different every time you start a new world, it has a random seed.
    4.This game requires the graphics to be like this or else it would look idiotic.
    5.Getting gear in Wow only gives a small sense of work as imagine how you would feel when you finished these?
    6.In Minecraft you can get mods and texture packs which will change the graphics if you aren’t impressed
    Being honest both these games are fantastic but Minecraft wins as it should never get boring.

    No ‘Pixellation’ isn’t my main point. Difficulty in creating things in this ‘game’ is what I was trying to highlight. But wouldn’t it be good if your work looked better?
    Problem is most people are afraid of animation thinking of it as something very hard but believe me it is way easier and fun than minecraft. Most of the models given above can be created in a good 3d editor in few hours instead of days/months. And you can use that skill to create 3d models/mods for other games too!
    I love low res games. I recently finished Gemini Rue which was a 2d game in 640×480 res. Minecraft is one of the more hyped games in market like halo 3. People justify it since they hear it is cool and sank hours and $ in it.
    Also, if the creator of the game wasn’t thinking like me and learning something he wouldn’t have made millions. I am amused how people dislike a good and benefiting advice simply because it is different from usual ‘OMG minecraft’ drone posts and tries to inspire you to go ahead and create something tangible.
    Do what you want. its your life afterall :)

    dude it does take some time out of your life but in no way shall you comapre it to halo. It’s much more intricate, it isn’t overhyped (there’s only one million players compared to halos many million) it’s fun in a different way than most games, it’s not difficult to create things in the game, it’s almost unlimited with possibilites, and you only pay 20$ for years of use. 3d animation does sound cool but this game is easier, funner, costs way less, and many other things

    The whole reason I believe Minecraft is such a success is because it’s more of a toolset than a linear, progression based game. There’s a massive world, with simple basic rules that are easily understood. That’s about it, you’re free to use it as you wish. You can go and start working on a project you planned, you can go out and explore the wonders of the uniquely generated world. Most people combine these things and expand on their knowledge while they play, building things as the thoughts come to them.
    Now as your whole “why not sculpt something in a 3D program” argument… There’s no investment there. You didn’t have to gather all your polygons by hand, or protect them from exploding enemies. You didn’t have to solve issues that come from unexpected situations, like hitting a dungeon, or a lava stream. Simply the fact that you -achieved- something, something arduously worked on, can give a very great rush, even if you don’t go bragging about it to other people.
    And in the end, it’s just a game. It’s designed and intended for people to enjoy. Which plenty of people genuinely seem to, and if you can’t understand that, well, that’s your loss.

    first of all, get a life noobs? how many hours of gameplay do you play every day? Are you aware that most people who play “C.O.D.” and “W.O.W.” are extremely addicted to those games? Do you believe that in comparison to someone of your “obvious amazing abilities” as a “C.O.D.” and “W.O.W.” player, to some “lowly minecraft player”, that your better than them at GAMES??? Some games, like first person shooters, and some third person shooters, are pointless, they do nothing, NOTHING, now, with something like minecraft, people can create things, which I’m sure you already know, now, heres something you probably didn’t know, is that in comparison, I would compare those people who create things on Minecraft to many artists today, because some of it is amazing, and some of it is very ingenius ideas, and for yourself, and most of those fanboy types that think that all first person shooters are the “shit” of gaming, (I mean the shit in the good way) I would compare you to a household dog. You have your toy, you play with it, and when your finished, your still happy and satisfied, and you can go back to the same toy again and again and again, and still have the best time in your life. But for other more evolved people, we like to play something that evokes a certain qaulity of human nature every time we play it, whether is be fear, happiness, love, hate etc. The thing that makes minecraft so amazing is that you can make yourself feel, and easily feel all these emotions in the game. I fear the destruction of my home, that I worked to build, I am happy in contructing a tunnel that allows me to travel faster through the map, I love my tamed wolf, and I hate fucking creepers. Yah, I think the main emotion you feel in ALL first-person shooters is well, nothing, unless of course you feel hate, in which case I would seek counseling. SO MANY PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS, that games aren’t just about the game, and how it plays, or how good it looks, (Though those things can be important, but not as important) it’s about the story, and how it makes you feel, and at the end of the day, are you contemplating what it has taught you? I think those are the very best games, at least they are some of the best every created.

    p.s. from this whole blurb it would seem from anyones point of view that I have a specific area of gaming that I like, that is not true. I LOVE first-person shooters, I think they’re really great, I have an Xbox 360, I have all the halo games, Call of duty black ops, and modern warfare, and modern warfare two, and I have w.o.w. on my computer (Level 73 Warrior, currently in the northern tip of Kalimdor) and I also have a ps3, a gamecube, a ps2, an xbox, and an N64. But again like I was saying, I usually play those games for just some mindless fun, I don’t really have to think to play them, but I don’t like that a whole lot, because it’s like I’m switching off my brain, and that usually makes me sleepy.

    p.s.s. a good example of a first person shooter that takes it a step further is portal. and no, I’m not one of those fanboys whose like, “ooh portal, its soooooooo amazing, gahhhhh” no, I like because again, evoking emotion, human nature, and there are parts that are funny too :)

     I left wow at the end of last winter( i play wow when i cant work my seasonal job). My cousin whom i used to play legos with happened into this game and bought me a copy for my birthday. I started playing it and fell in love. 

    he spent $20 on a game i can play for forever, without ever “beating” it. 

    i only wish we had found it sooner so i did not spend $16 a month for  4 years on wow, oh and $50 on burning crusade and $50 on lich king oh and $50 on cata. im not poor i make decent money but i asked myself why am i throwing it away on a game? i have spent almost $600 on wow, and nothing to show for it.

    Ok.  There are several things about this comment of yours. First, go back to the second grade, and learn to spell and create coherent sentences.  Secondly, you used the word “fuck” six times in a four sentence post. It doesn’t make you seem cool, it makes you seem like an idiot.  Thirdly, you said that these people need a life, yet you’re the one who sits at your computer and insults people without any idea of what they do with the rest of their time.  Most of the things on this site only took weeks because the creators only spent a small portion of their time on them.      You’re right. Developing a skill set that you can use to make mods for other games or even your own lo-res games is a waste of time. I’d rather pay to play minecraft and have my creations limited by someone else’s rules rather than my own limits. It is far more challenging to use something with a narrow scope like minecraft instead of other software that can be utilized in more intricate and elegant ways. You sir, are a genius! I wish you were head of minecraft PR.

    I love how people here are comparing Minecraft to games that aren’t anything like it.  I mean really, CoD and WoW involve a completely different type of game play.  At least compare it to a similar game.

    However, I can only imagine those that are against the game haven’t really taken the time to get into it.  They downloaded, broke a few blocks, built a single story, one room house, and and judged it from that.  Rather than taking the time to gather resources, craft tools to make the job easier, and spend some real time on creating.  They probably didn’t take the time to explore more than 1km in any direction.  If they would have, they would have discovered the seemingly endless world they entered.  You can literally walk in one direction for weeks and never see the same thing or come to the end of the Minecraft world.

    But, that would actually take some incentive.  The lazy want everything already built for them so that all they need to do is go in and shoot something.

    CoD and WoW are fantastic games.  But so is Minecraft.  You just have to be willing to take more than a few hours chance on a completely different style of game play.

    For the record, I do play both WoW -and- Minecraft, and suprise-suprise, I even have plenty of time left over to focus on my family and job, and even other past time activities! Some of us don’t play games to sit there for hours on end, day after day, rotting away in front of the computer (although I doubt most people aim for that regardless), but are capable to log on for an hour here and there a couple of times per week. Even if I’ll happily admit that Minecraft have a tendency to have me linger for longer than intended. So did Lego, back in the day ;)

    All I have to say is I spent about $100 AUD to play wow for 4′months then I got mine-craft for $20 AUD and never have to pay again. And I love how after spending a 2 months building a 200×200 square city named “New Pillock” and still working on it I’ve had more fun than I ever have playing WOW.

    And to all intellectually challenged 7-20 year olds, I’m 16 and understand the difference between a multi-million dollar FPS gaming corporation and a small 3D games indie developer… Seriously there is a difference between Call of Duty and Mine-craft I you can’t see it then god have mercy on your pitiful soul.

    And I am not being one sided in this pathetic fight but I also lost my WOW account to hackers and Blizzard actually messages me saying they wanted me to pay for the next month although it was hacked, I’m mean what the fuck… What kind of company does that? And to sum this up, no they wouldn’t refund me and NO they wouldn’t re-activate my account although I had a month of time left and it took 2 months for them to get my account back.

    And I don’t hate COD I actually love it but guys stop trolling and comparing an exploration game with swords and bows with an FPS it just makes you look like a dumbass.

    I played World of Warcraft for about a week and became addicted, yet I somehow played Minecraft for 10 minutes and was addicted immediately…..the game is not what it looks like it to be, there are endless of possibilities. I am a hardcore gamer, and like to be one continually, but college leaves no room for that, yet in the minecraft world, you can be as hardcore as you want, “On your time, not a stupid guilds” :D. I got minecraft a 4/5 rating, because I couldnt find my 3D glasses…when I do, its a 5 on my scale.

    Well it was just about 8 in the morning and I hadn’t had any sleep for about 20 hours. I wasn’t really worried about commas and grammar at the time. It is also the internet so I guess I’m mainly saying that you should be glad it was actually legible instead of the usual interweb speak people usually write in. But yes, I am sorry that the grammar is bad. I have never actually visited this site, other than last time to write the comment and to write a reply now. But once again, being extremely tired and pissed at someone makes you write fast and hard and post it without hesitation. I would still ask that you read over it. Exempting the grammatical errors I do believe I had some good points, and I would hate for someone of your intelect to simply look those over because of grammar. (I’m not being sarcastic, I know it looks like that but I’m being searious)

    did you try the real version? or the browser version, (which is what most of the above posts are from) in the real version you have to survive against a lot of different mosters and it’s actually kind of hard,there are skeletons that shoot arrows, (so you have to use glass or fill up openings with something else), creepers that will run at you (or your house/wall) and explode, giant spiders that will climb up stone walls, (in which case you either need a roof, a lip on your wall, or a sandstone wall (which will barely survive against creepers))it’s actually pretty challenging unless you have ut on easy or peaceful, even easy isn’t that easy, and you can still die on peaceful… and trust me,it isn’t that hard to.

    Any people who havent played minecraft yet should really try it out, its super addictive, and the game is ofc not all about building super creative stuff.

    I enjoyed minecraft from the second i punched a tree. The cost of the game was a no brainer when compared to the cost of ANY other game mentioned. Even if you, yourself, arent the creative type, and cant figure out what to build, you can do a quick and easy search for savegames that other people have uploaded and go from there. Or just browse through videos to get ideas. And unlike most other gameplay videos out there, Minecraft videos are quite unique. It can range from ‘typical day’ stuff to ‘here’s what i’ve built’ to ‘how to’ to ‘survival’. Wheres any of that in CoD or WoW? And I am a HUGE fan of both of those games. And look at the actual gamers…..yes, there are griefing dicks on minecraft, but honestly theres nothing that cant be undone or just plain redone. The players of minecraft dont play to ‘be the best’….they play because they get satisfaction out of what they do. Sometimes it feels great to just ‘be’ opposed to being ‘something’.

    My main point here is : Hate the haters, dont hate the game. Thank you, Notch!

     Reading through these comments, there are a lot of people criticizing the players saying that they “have no life” or something along those lines. But why should someone criticize someone for playing videogames in their leisure time. To the gamer, that’s what they enjoy, and the person that is insulting them is probably just some jerk-off that revolves his life around tagging photos on facebook and getting drunk at the same pub or club every week. I play WoW, minecraft and occasionally CoD and I’m at university and so are many others that play these games. These are the people that will be making millions and running countries in the future, not the douchebags that go onto these forums to insult them for having no life.

    I agree with all of what you said. I feel completely numb after such a long period of playing CoD MW2, when I finish playing, I find it’s a good time to hit the hay (or consume a couple of cans/bottles of V) :)

    I am very intrigued by this MineCraft, I look forward to playing it. It’s hard to find a game that let’s you be the “creator” as such. Spore was pretty good in levels of creativity, but became very boring very quick.

    I <3 the fact that my son plays minecraft. It's very creative and keeps him off the street. My son has explained a number of things u can do other than just creating stuff and destroying it. I have seen some amazing works of art on several servers as well. Which I am sure took time and skill to create. He plays with a lot of different people and they all work together to create some major crazy stuff. U should check it out before passing on it. U will be amazed by the mass of different people u will interact with. Think of it as a social site with a few extra quirks.
    Farmville is not as entertaining u don't get to talk live with people nor create together. Just sayin……………..

    I’ve got a few problems with this and your last post, and i’m never going to be back on this page so I really don’t care much if I offend you, granted that’s not my goal…anyway, You are being kind of close minded, you just said that you think it’s a waste to spend time digging to get blocks, well it takes a lot of time to learn how to work in 3d animation programs..if you even attempt to try and argue that point, you’ve got to be mental. and as for people paying for it, I’ve used 3d animation programs, and they’re pretty expensive, this game is like $20 I think, I’m not sure, I’ve had it for a while; but you see what i’m getting at. My last point I’d like to make is why don’t you instead of coming onto threads, bashing a game you probably played for 5 minutes before quitting, bragging about how you can make “awesomer” things in 3d animation, and just making yourself look like a toddler by using words like awesomer and go actually create something. learn a real skill, paint something, draw something, It really doesn’t matter just do something with your life besides troll and brag.

    I actually AM an architect & find this game to be a wonderful tool for inspiring creative thought through the younger (and not so young) generations. Stop mentioning your ability to use high end 3D modeling software, this GAME never once hinted it was going to be anything other than light hearted fun. You woukd never find Peter Zumthor rendering his buildings using Minecraft so as many others have stated, shut it. You mentioned in your post about europe & USAs economic decline, I’d take being broke over 3rd world living conditions (as I imagine this is the sort of area that you live concidering your obviously bitter attitude towards westernised civilations) any day of the week.      I have played both those games. WoW gets insanely boring (And you need to pay what? 10 bucks a month, every month to play?) And the COD series is very quick to defeat.

    Minecraft has revolutionised games. Instead of focusing on blood, special effects, and futuristic or realistic gameplay, its focused on making something simple and enjoyable, for very little cost. Honestly, go buy Minecraft. I guarantee that you will either love it to bits, or hate it. And honestly, how long does it take to beat a Cod game? 4 hours? Minecraft randomly generates parts of the map WHILE you play, leaving you with unpredictability (within reason). Look at your COD and WoW, and tell me that you get a different game every time you start anew. Tell me.

The deal with Minecraft is that it has amazing simplicity blended with a familiar world style setting wherein you have the ability to play an entirely creative game, or set out to survive in the world, or a combination of both. It allows for fantasy themed gaming in a multiplayer setting if desired, or allows a player to remain on single player for their own unique experience. In addition, players can use their understanding of the game and its mechanics to come up with some very creative ideas… from using “redstone wiring” (similar to electricity) to make a host of “automated processes” or explosive devices. The whole thing basically has no limits, save for the creativity of the player and the developer’s (that is to say Notch’s) time. The other part that players really enjoy is that they actually see the most-used mods and most requested additions actually make it into the game due to the fact that Notch listens to his player base.

    The point in minecraft is mainly to survive the zombies/creepers/spiders etc at the same time trying to build somewhere to hide if you don’t want to fight them, the digging is simply a “realistic” way of getting materials for better weapons and things like that. Building a model in a model editor is simple and easier than building block by block in minecraft, yes but that’s something people who want a GAME wont want to do, the survival (and now adventure) aspect of the game is what a lot of people buy it for, you can make a game like this what you want to, if you are closed minded (closed minded is if you aren’t willing to try it before saying it sucks, not following a trend, especially when there had to of been people who liked it to begin with before it could become a trend) enough that you think its that simple then get the fuck out and go back to your shitty modelling program.

    Oh and minecraft does have some skills you can learn if you include the many many mods which are made for minecraft which people have to learn to use java if they want to make mods for it. Say what you want about minecraft, wont change the fact that Notch is worth millions now because of how many people like it.

    That is likely because most people who ask what the point is ask it in a way that to many would sound like they are saying its a bad game, if instead of asking “what is the point in minecraft?” you would be better asking “What am I supposed to do in minecraft? Can someone tell me what the aim of the game is?”.

    Ask the latter and you would probably get a lot better response. You have two things you can do mainly, which is use your imagination and build whatever you want with blocks OR you can go on survival and last as long as you can against a bunch of crazy ass enemies, ether way there’s something for majority of people to do :)

    If you cant find something to fit your wants then try looking into some of the many many mods for minecraft, I have like 20 installed now and I find it enhances the experience by that many times. For instance I have a mod which can allow me to build my own colony which people move into and do jobs like building and farming, this in turn allows you to build houses for your people and farm wheat to be made into bread for the villagers to live on. That covers a town management system for people like me who like that.

    Minecraft is what you make of it, if you go into it expecting the basics of it to be stupid and terrible you will likely come out with the same impression. Go into it with an open mind and a willingness to improve the game in areas you don’t like and you could find yourself addicted to it.

If your into first person shooter games play them but dont comment on a game that you dont like the style of just for the fact that you dont like it. And if you dont like taking the time to build block by block there is a mod for that. Magic wand can help you make buildings faster than any other mod, but flying is needed to build them fast.     There are two game mods – survival and creative:
     In creative mod you can create what ever you want for example the things that posted here.
     In survival mod you have to digg for sources,have to hunt pigscowschickens and you fight aginst zombies at night.

If you are not in touch with your own imagination, then this game is probably not for you.

    The best way for you to experience what minecraft actually is, is in my
    opinion to checkout the Yogscast on youtube, they really give a good
    secondhand experience of the game.

    Start with the beginning and watch your way through and you will see not only what it is but also how it has evolved.

    This will also give you the possibility to understand why people say “it is what you want it to be”.

    I sense crap in the above argument. A licensed version of Maya is a good few thousand dollars, and for a “few minutes” you’d have made a primitive cube with a few extrudes, so, no, Minecraft still looks better than whatever you’ve made. An unlicensed version of Maya can’t make you any money, or, if you TRY to make money off of it, you stand to lose even MORE money. This game is about $20 USD.
    To make anything decent requires building it, UV’ing it, sculpting, texturing, lighting and then rendering which is a good week’s worth of work; But you should know that, shouldn’t you?
    Making things in Minecraft is fun, social and requires imagination.

    Do you not remember the days when you were playing with Lego? This game is Lego for PC. You can’t criticise Lego… It’s redundant…

    Minecraft has something for everyone but it would take to long to sit down and type all the reasons why people enjoy it so I’ll just give my own. First of all, once I paid for this game it was mine and I didn’t have to pay for it again and again like a subscription. I can spend hours on this game instead of the hour and a half that the demo gives you. (which can easy be reset without losing your work if you use time set 1000.) Also depending on my moods, I can choose to play with friends or by myself. When in multiplayer, I get the opportunity to look at others work and gather new ideas for my own creations. If I’m feeling creative, I switch to that gamemode and fly around while building whatever I feel like and when I wish to fight some mobs, I go survival. something for everyone.

    you arent aflicted by game rules you choose what you do or when you do it most people enyoy that freedom what they dont get in games whit a story and some person or machine saying them what to do all the time but for the people who like it you still can install adventure maps they give you the story you can easily do whatever you want (i know there are those people who just build a big penis) look at what they created and that was in alpa in beta you can do much more

That’s something your mom would be proud of. @EmmaWK:disqus , this is a good game that has tons of creativity and, if you want it can be quite a good survival simulator. Give it a try before moving onto other games. If you want JUST survival games, Stranded 2 is quite good. Could be better though.

    Okay little kid, I may be thirteen but I think I have better grammar than you do. It’s an opinion on what game is better, stop trolling endlessly. I can guarantee that you have never played Minecraft. Also, I don’t see the point of COD and Halo. Yes, I have them and yes, I play them. I don’t see why having a better virtual rank when you compare it to your friends makes people so happy, why are you comparing games that are completely different? In Minecraft there is a point. It’s to survive monsters and upgrade your place, like a first person Age of Empires. In Halo and COD, there is no point to either becase having a higher virtual rank and being better at aiming a virtual gun doesn’t make a difference, and you just camp for skills.

    LOL these are not impressive at all. Most of these ‘creations’ were made using some sort of third party editor to make them. And pixel art is not art, it’s just copying pixels from a page.

    A good minecraft creation involves architexture, environment, and function. NONE of these featured have that. PLUS most of these are OLD and from old versions of minecraft.

    Entire steampunk cities with floating islands and working rail lines, those are incredible creations. A dungeon with some working lava moats and traps is a good creation. Making a pixel copy of the creeper meme is not.

    Perhaps what you missed was the collaborative aspect of Minecraft. It can be very satisfying to model in 3D, no doubt. Minecraft fans find it can be satisfying and fun to work with a team or even just have your friends in the environment with you. There are the two modes (creation and survival) which provide variety. I also think that building WITHIN the limitations of the medium is one of the attractions
