Watch the Entire Oscar-Nominated Adam and Dog Animated Short Film Right Here

If there’s one thing we here at Geekosystem are happy to promote, it’s animated short films. Paperman is just wonderful, for example. The Oscars for the Best Animated Short Film category are looking tough to call at the moment thanks to how stellar all the nominees are. Adam and Dog by Minkyu Lee is a wonderful little short that’s cropped up on the Internet now that it’s been nominated, and you can watch the whole thing right here.

Is there a rule that animated shorts cannot have talking in them?

  • Sam Groves

Yes, it’s called the – Voice Actors Don’t Grow on Trees – rule. As in for most people creating shorts, your resources avaliable for it are tight enough as it is that unless you have an ‘in’ with a good set of voice actors it’s just as easy (and often seen as more artistic) to do it as a “silent movie” than a “talkie”.

Nice, but all this religious stuff… irks. Dog = God? Really? My vote would go for paperman.

The Simpsons short that was nominated didn’t have voices either. I would guess that their production budget would allow for it. Perhaps artsy silent cartoons are “Oscar bait” for that category?

  • Sam Groves

The Simpsons may have a nice production budget for their episodes, that doesn’t mean that they are willing to spend any of it it specifically on a four minute short.

And besides, pointing to the Simpson’s short as something that would be typical of shorts is rather disingenuous.

The majority of shorts done out there are ‘works of love’ either done by industry insiders or people who are aspiring to become one, or they are side projects.

Not sure that I agree that the dog was god. I thought the message was more about dogs and their relationship with humankind. Adam and Eve were cast out of paradise and the dog willingly left with them. I thought it more symbolized the loyalty that dog have for people.
