Investigators Find Secret Al Qaeda Files Hidden in Porno, on Memory Stick, in Suspect’s Underpants

Last year, an Austrian man by the name of Maqsood Lodin was taken into custody in Germany. Lodin was on a watch list, and rightly so as investigators soon discovered that he was carrying secret documents on his person. After searching him, investigators found digital storage devices hidden in his underpants. Within those devices were pornographic videos, and within those were hundreds of pages of al Qaeda documents.

The German newspaper Die Zeit was the first to break the story, though it has since been reported by CNN and elsewhere. According to these reports, the great efforts to hide the documents were understandable, considering that they contained plans for future terror attacks, information about previous attacks in both the U.K. and India, as well as information on how al Qaeda can perform better.

One document in particular, titled “Future Works,” apparently outlined future targets. One such plan would involve hijacking ocean-going cruise ships and taking the passengers hostage — presumably to pressure governments into releasing prisoners or meeting other demands. Among the details of the plan was the intent to dress the hostages in orange jumpsuits, reminiscent of the uniforms worn by inmates at Guantanamo Bay.

The documents also seem to recommend smaller-scale, low-cost attacks like the 2008 attacks on hotels in Mumbai, India, which left 164 people dead. German journalist Yassin Musharbash says that this shows al Qaeda’s interest in a forked approach, using both small-scale and large-scale attacks.

Hiding the plans within pornographic files — titled ”Kick Ass” and “Sexy Tanja,” by the way — demonstrate that al Qaeda is taking great pains to keep their secrets. However, I wonder if investigators would have been less interested in pornographic files if the drives were stored loose in a bag or pocket. Putting secret files inside porno videos on flash disks in your underpants seems a little like putting the spare key to your house in a fake rock under the mat.

The practice of hiding valuable intelligence in pornography also might cast the cache of porn found on al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden’s computer after he was killed in Pakistan in a completely new light.

Though CNN reports that U.S. officials consider this a major intelligence coup, it’s a sobering reminder that despite all its recent setbacks, al Qaeda is working hard to adapt.

hmmm smells more like CIA propaganda than real Al Qaueda plotting. Support for the war of terror is fading in the US and our government has sought to intensify not only the war, but but the removal of civil rights and constitutionally guaranteed freedoms to do it.

Has the auther pointed out hiding the drive in the underpants is a amateur move, but yet the powers that be want you to think these are some sort of diabolical masterminds…………….

Yes the world is a dangerous place , but the United States government is only making it more so.

Those wacky al-CIAda agents, leaving their passports at the scene of their crimes and forgetting their Korans at strip-clubs, now this?
It’s like…it’s like…it’s like they’re doing it on purpose or something!

Steganography is a good way to hide docs, but did he not have it encrypted also? BTW – I agree with the above comments: Hiding it in your undies is a sure way to to effectively scream “Something important I am hiding!” Luckily for us, the guy appears to be not so bright.

Actually it was probably up his ass, knowing he was on a watch list.Give up the bullshit conspiracy propaganda of the enemy, these folks blow themselves up, they don’t think logically. The real crime and major stupidity is the leaking of this information to the press.Think about it keeping them in the dark of our discoveries of their plans without them knowing would have been the real victory.

I do not understand how releasing information about future attacks to the press (information that surely has tactical value with regards to bolstering counter terrorrism efforts) serves any purpose other than to further said propaganda..

Lest we be quick to write this fella off as Osama Bin DumbDumb, maybe he was just a plant to spread misinformation. Or is that too clever for Al Quaeda?
