Ride Down a Mountain on this Alpine Coaster [Video]

I’ve found that the best YouTube videos are the ones that provoke visceral reactions of terror. With that in mind, this video is an instant classic.  Uploaded by , this video provides a first person view of a white-knuckle, no brakes trip down an alpine coaster. It’s worth mentioning that this car has brakes, but in an attempt to be as awesome and reckless and possible, our brave pilot isn’t using them. Hold onto your seats, this is a wild one.

This is what your average alpine coaster car looks like, by the way. You’ll notice it has two tracks…

This would be great in 3D or Cinerama.

Oh my god. Yes it would. I didn’t even think of that. Now I’m all disappointed that it isn’t.

They’ve had these in the USA before; there was one located in Wisconsin during the summer months at a ski resort called ‘Cascade Mountain’ at Portage WI (near Madison) back in the late 1970s or early 1980s.  I think somebody got hurt on it and it was removed due to the liability issue after that.

I do live in the Alps, but shamefully I’ve never been to an Alpine Coaster myself. :( Also, I never thought I’d ever see a video of my homeland on geekosystem, Mieders is only 40 minutes away from where I live XD

Yup, same thing happened to the Mountain Coaster on Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, BC. The onus was on the passenger to apply their own brakes… and some idiots forgot to do that at the end of the ride, flew off the track and broke their legs. Closed down after this happened a second time. Was fun while it lasted.
