NBC Promo for Parks and Recreation Accidentally Releases HUGE Spoiler?

Toward the end of tonight’s episode of NBC’s Parks and Recreation, NBC aired one of their promos plugging the show’s website, as is the custom. However, the promo seemingly contained a humongous spoiler: It told viewers to log onto the show’s website for gift ideas for April and Andy’s wedding. The thing is, there has been absolutely no sign whatsoever that April and Andy would be getting married anytime soon; in fact, the two characters aren’t even dating, as Andy has been trying to win April over since last season.

I have two theories:

  1. NBC released a promo for the show that was supposed to be for a future episode, thus accidentally revealing a huge spoiler at the wrong time.
  2. The episode that the promo aired after featured characters Ron Swanson and his ex-wife Tammy getting married during a drunken binge, and also featured character Jerry giving them a present from their wedding registry. So, instead of revealing a spoiler about April and Andy’s future relationship, the NBC promo simply blundered and said the incorrect character names.

However, the problem with theory #2 is the above video clearly shows April and Andy when the voiceover says their names, and I can’t seem to find the wedding registry on NBC.com, where the promo says it’ll be. Whatever the reason, it looks like NBC just made a pretty big blunder.

UPDATE: Going with theory #2, the show’s website finally updated with Ron and Tammy’s wedding registry, though it seems to simply be 11 stock photos of nothing related to the show, nor anything comedic. It seems entirely possible that NBC realized their blunder, then quickly threw a Ron and Tammy wedding registry together in an attempt to cover their tracks; however, as the above video clearly shows, both April and Andy are shown on screen when the voiceover says their names in the promo.

UPDATE 2: On the April 14, 2011 episode that just aired, Andy and April actually did get married. It looks like NBC really did accidentally release a huge spoiler back in February.

I noticed that too! It’s got to be an accidental spoiler, and it makes me SO. VERY. MAD. It takes a lot of the excitement out of finding out what happens. Now we’re just waiting for it to happen, instead of wondering. UGH.

    NBC is retarded.

I really doubt April and Andy will get married any time soon if at all. The writers love to stretch out these relationships over multiple seasons. For instance, Jim and Pam, then there’s Andy’s lame break-up with Erin. People lose interest once the characters are together.
Here’s a link to Ron and Tammy’s registry.

Yeah, I caught that and was like, what the heck? But haven’t they only filmed so far into the season as of now? I doubt they will have them getting married this season, so I think someone just really goofed this up and meant Ron and Tammy.

I noticed that too. I was typing on my laptop at the time that promo came up and kept typing, but once my brain processed what had been said, I slowly looked up at my TV.

I’m calling spoiler. I’d look it up but I’d probably find more spoilers if I did that. Time to check to see what Gawker TV has to say about this.

I think it’s a spoiler, not a mistake. And I’m glad. Andy and April are CUTE together! And besides, Mr. Happy Guy was just about to take April away to Indianapolis when Andy tried to help her get out of working for him. That was really cute! :)

  • Duh!

It was a huge f&$# up! I rewinded the DVR twice to make sure I heard it right. Way to go NBC!

That wasn’t up on the site a handful of hours after the promo aired. I wonder if NBC realized what happened, then quickly threw a half-assed little thing together to try to cover their mistake as best they could?

    People still watch network TV?

This is why I don’t watch NBC. Why would they ruin something like this?

Does anyone have any idea who the old dude is that Amy Poehler’s character calls death in the promo?

I’m surprised this story didn’t gather more steam in February. You’re right; last night’s episode proved that NBC screwed up royally when they aired the promo 2 months early. Any word on if a head rolled at the studio for such a major mistake?

I didn’t mind at all. I never miss an episode now that I picked up a Sling Adapter from my job at DISH Network. I usually watch P&R on my Smartphone so I can keep up as it airs live. I truly think it adds to the beauty of what would be the perfect wedding for Andy and April. And if it was a blooper then oh well it was still fitting;)
