Anonymous Declares War on Sony

As anyone who has been following the saga between Sony and George GeoHot Hotz knows, Sony is a tad displeased with Hotz finally cracking the long uncracked PlayStation 3 and has been publicly targeting him with legal action. This has previously gotten of the attention of the hacker community, as Sony supposedly reached out to another prominent hacker with a job offer, which said hacker turned down due to Sony’s treatment of Hotz. Now, infamous hacker group Anonymous–who claimed responsibility for hacking well-known institutions Gawker and Mastercard–have turned their sights on Sony, officially declaring war on the technology giant due to their treatment of Hotz. Their announcement, which can be seen on AnonNews.org:

“Congratulations, Sony. You now have now received the undivided attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal action against our follow hackers, Geohot and Graf_Chokolo, has not only alarmed us, it has been deemed wholly unforgivable.

You have now abused the judicial system in an attempt to censor information on how your products work. You have victimised your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target every person who seeks this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands. This is the information they were willing to teach the world for free. The very same information you wish to suppress for sake of corporate greed and complete control of the users.

Now you will experience the wrath of Anonymous. You saw a hornets nest, and stuck your penises in it. You must face the consequences of your actions, Anonymous style.

Knowledge is Free. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not Forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.”

This would be more intimidating if it didn’t look like it was crafted by a juvenile.

Uuuuh, I would be veeery, veeeery scared now… Lol at nolifers who think they have power just because they didn’t go out of their own house in years… -.- Vene if they hack the sit out of aeverything digital, I could walk up and beat their whole “Legion” with one hand tied down…

Bored teenagers. That’s all they are. Anonymous is filled with delusional people who act much braver behind their computer monitors using their kiddie toys (LOIC and DDoS) to bring down a website for a day or two (HUGE accomplishment there, guise!) and pay the price for it–some of them get arrested, others get their computers and personal accounts seized, etc. Let’s take a look at some of Anon’s fails:

Project Chanology: half-a**ed attact on the most trivial “church” in the world with everyone disbanding shortly thereafter when the church started making threats and found the identities of half the people in attendance at the protest.

HB Gary hack: several people involved were arrested and the law firm is back up and running.

WikiLeaks: Anonymous acted as Assange’s guard dog, yet WikiLeaks didn’t even acknowledge Anon or let them get involved. Time well spent, huh?

Sony: Brought the site down for one day (allegedly) and everything is back up and running. Not even worth calling an accomplishment.

The only thing this act is going to do (aside from land several of these tweens in jail) is chip away at and help destroy the video game industry they’re “fighting” to protect, opening the floodgates to hackers and cheaters assuming they DO pull this off. Game developers will be leery and/or hesitant to produce the quality games you all love so much due to losing profits that keep them employed and supporting their families, causing the industry to all but go under untirely.

    Get a life.

You do realise sony.com is down? So is ps store, and probably more. Those were just the two i could remember.

And they’ll be up tomorrow, if not later today. So what? What significant impact do these kids make? They’re contributing to the problem, not the solution – as if they cared. Their original purpose has lost value with their childish behavior. Only like-minded dweebs rally behind them, and they are powerless.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better metaphor for incurring wrath than sticking your penis in a hornets nest. Besides though, Geo_Hotz deserves prosecution simply for being such a huge douchenozzle. Also i don’t see how offering somebody a job is wholly unforgivable. If knowledge is free and everyone should have it y u mad about people’s privacy?

Meh… I wouldn’t defend Anonymous in any way, and that note lacks any intelligence… however, on the other end of the spectrum we’re talking about Sony. Could care less about Sony and their proprietary junk… and what’s not proprietary, tends to be of low quality these days. Their phones suck… the only thing they got left going for them are TVs and Playstations.

in response, sony stopped making ps3 games.
