Australia May Kill Farting Camels To Curb Global Warming

Farting camels make global warming worse, death to the camels! It would be nice if there was something (anything?) that we could blame for climate change, other than human actions. But, farting camels? What seems like a ridiculous farting farce, is actually a real plan being considered by officials in Australia to kill camels for their alleged role in global warming.

The idea is that killing camels, who release methane gas when they fart, would solve global warming in Australia because their farting has a serious impact on the country’s carbon emissions. The International Society of Camelid Research Development (ISOCARD), has called the proposed camel-cull “stupid,” and an “abomination of science,” in addition to declaring that it would make camels scape-goats for a man-made problem.

There is no evidence that suggests that camel flatulence causes or adds to global warming. Yet, the kill-a-camel plan was being considered by Australia’s Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency as part of talks to develop policy to help reduce the country’s carbon emissions. The camel eradication plan was developed by the company Northwest Carbon. The plan would exchange carbon credits for dead camels, based on rates of methane emissions extrapolated from data on the release of methane from cattle.

Cattle and camels are, obviously, different animals who have different digestive systems. The camel metabolism is more efficient than cattle, with camels able to produce 20 percent more milk, while consuming 20 percent less food. The intestines of camels also contain different bacteria, which makes their digestion process more similar to animals like pigs than cattle.

According to ISOCARD, Northwest Carbon’s data about the amount of methane released from camels, in addition to their statistics about the number of feral camels living in Australia is questionable. There are only 28 million camels in the world, and their emissions represent just a small fraction of total emissions when compared to cattle.

Australia still relies on coal for power and has one of the highest carbon footprints in the world. The government has set plans to start taxing the country’s biggest polluters, but these companies will be able to buy carbon credits to offset their emissions.

So far, it remains to be seen what will happen to the camels, but ISOCARD seems ready to fight for feral camels, who in all their farting glory, are not a major player in Australia’s carbon emission problem.

    winter? and YES there are plenty of ancient tropical fossils under the Arctic’s
    melting ice.

    Every single CO2 scientist had their own personal and unique
    definition of climate crisis. Why? Because climate blame was a lab coat
    consultants w*et-dream. They studied “effects” of something that
    never happened for 25 years and called it scientific consensus. Not surprising
    since it was scientists and their pesticides and cancer causing chemicals that
    polluted the poor little five billion year old planet in the first place. They
    also gave us germ warfare, deep sea drilling technology, cruise missiles and
    land mines. And you want to trust these so called saints in the church of
    science enough to look your kids in the eyes and tell them they will die an unspeakable
    death from CO2 if they don’t start turning the lights out more often? And now,
    just as we were all set to pay a tax to make the weather colder, Obama never
    even mentions the crisis in his state of the union speech and the thousands of
    consensus scientist did not march in the streets in mass protest for Obama
    bailing on them. Not surprising because this illusion of consensus had the
    scientists out numbering the protestors anyways. The new majority is the former
    believer majority and the new denier is any old faded doomer that doesn’t know
    that reality. The world has walked away from handing over the management of the
    climate to giant carbon trading stock markets, massive energy corporations and pandering
    politicians because false fear is always unsustainable. Welcome back home CO2,
    the plants still love you.

    None. BUT, they DO all have complete consensus that it WILL
    change.

    Meanwhile, the UN and the entire SCIENCE world had allowed
    carbon trading to trump 3rd world fresh water relief, starvation rescue and 3rd
    world education for just over 25 years of climate control instead of the
    obviously needed population control.

    If the australians changed the way they lived there lives they would not have to pick on nature as an excuse to there rising emissions as should the rest of us.
    we all seem to find some other reason for the global warming and climate change rather than stand up to the plate and admit that we are responsible !!!!

    Considering Australia burns more coal per capita than any other country, this is a pretty stupid idea. As long as Australia has cheap and plentiful coal and drags its feet on building cleaner, safer power plants they will continue to have emissions issues and all the camels they can kill won’t change that.

    What about the thousands and thousands of acres of cattle in California? That we’ve bred and bred and bred so we can chow down on ten big macs a day? Its not necessarily a stupid idea on paper, but its a stupid idea in general. “Wheres the methane coming from? Camels? Kill ‘em.” I saw a rad info graphic which showed an estimation of where all the methane and Co2 comes from. Very interesting to see that Cows were almost at the top of the list.
