People Get High on Bath Salts Now

Drugs are expensive. This is understandable. But I guess that when you really have to snort something, you really have to snort something. And now, people looking for a quick high — or, apparently, any kind of high as long as it’s a high — under their mom’s bathroom sink. Oh, yes. People are turning to bath salts. Calgon, take me away!

Someone found out that chemicals found in bath salts as well as some plant foods, specifically mephedrone and methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV), can cause a high. This means that someone thought of snorting bath salts and plant food in the first place. According to the Washington Post, the bath salts being used as drugs are not necessarily the brands being sold in drugstores, but are simply derived from them and sold under names such as Vanilla Sky, Hurricane Charlie, and Ivory Snow, not to be confused with the soap of the same name. But then again, the people dealing bath salts are trying to sell them as a more innocuous alternative to, let’s just say, meth.

However, these bath salts are reportedly even more powerful than meth, heroin, crack, etc. and cause “intense cravings,” a rapid heartbeat, and severe hallucinations. One user of bath salts, Neil Brown, who claimed to have used all of the drugs I just named, wrote to his local newspaper to warn them about the use of bath salts — after he stabbed himself in the face and stomach during a bath salt hallucination. Another user, the son of a physician, shot himself in the head after slitting his own throat after “three days of intermittent delirium”:

“If you could see the contortions on his face. It just made him crazy,” [the physician] said. He added that the coroner’s office confirmed that the chemicals were detected in his son’s blood and urine.

Sheriff Chris Dickinson of Mississipi says that most of the bath salt users whom he encounters are also meth addicts and can be extremely dangerous, saying that an officer was injured by a user who thought he was fighting “two devils.”

But the biggest problem with snorting something you can buy at Walgreens is that because the chemicals are intended for relaxing, exfoliating purposes, they are in no way illegal. So the most law enforcement can do when they’re being attacked by a guy who thinks he’s fighting devils is charge him with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, and remind him that bath salts are for external use only. (A warning that usually appears on the label.)

Boys, you have got this SO wrong on so many levels. The chems are *SOLD AS* plant food and bath salts, and they’re about as powerful as ecstasy. You sound like Nancy Reagan, this article is so skewed it’s utterly laughable. Also it’s last years story over here, maybe some research material for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mephedrone Geez, first link when you search for mephedrone.

Not my thing at all, I don’t enjoy drugs particularly, and yet somehow I have a better idea than you lot, spouting off some press-release you speed-read. Rubbish.

  • Lollypoop

Yeah guys, like totally unprofessional and stuff. Jenkum is it, jeez…

  • Chris

This article is nowhere near accurate.

  • http://blog.cheetahdeals.com CheetahDeals Blog

Oh… the bath salts are -ONLY- “about as powerful as ecstasy.” That’s great! What’s the big deal?! Can you comprehend the things you’re typing?

  • Ava Gray James

omg is this stuff really the new meth? i went to an idaho meth project premiere yesterday for class, and the ads were crazy – http://idahomethproject.org/TV – but i thought they were just exaggerated? you guys should check the ads out, they’re not on tv yet, but i think these are supposed to start next week?

  • Pbmorin

What does Neil Brown have to say?

  • Joseph Leone24

I’m just gonna have to chime in…… I found this article while trying to find a way to buy some bath salt so I can take it inlike stuff like that now don’t get me wrong I don’t tweak never have and never will once every here and there I will take ecstasy and cocaine but o can tell u this I know a lot of tweakers and a lot of ecstasy I have done myself and this stuff doesn’t compare the only ppl that say it does are naive and haven’t done the real stuff or just think they sound cool cause even myself as a user only heard about this stuff a year ago and all it is to me is a weaker alternative for ecstasy when I can’t find any so unless u have ever experimented shut the hell up ur the annoying liberal bastards that are stubborn and think they know everything cause they heard what they know from some other liberal bastard and just won’t believe anything else

  • SuperNova

Lol I used to inject crystal meth(intravenous) and never had to fight two devils….I always had to fight ten of them duhhh.

I was checking this out to see if it’s worth f-ing my nose up but it isn’t. Bath Salts have more impurities than any recreational hard drug. OK you may argue drugs are bad but injecting a bad batch of dope sucks. Bath Salts remind me more of Adderall or Ritalin because they have just as much dextroamphetamine in them as they do amphetamines. You can only go so high before peaking. This is not so with say, blue or pink crystal meth, I’ve known people that didn’t sleep for a few months with that stuff.

To conclude, do not do drugs. That simple, don’t even do marijuana, smoke irritates the lungs regardless and tar is in THC, ever cleaned a weed pipe? Resinnn overload ;)

Do not try meth either, nobody is ready for that nightmare.

  • Waternomelon

I agree with Chrisroan78… anal sex indeed Chris , only some people can handle it.(Bath Salts aren’t for weak minded people)

this is literally the most uneducated article i’ve ever seen on any drug. did you even research or just read headlines?

  • Catgnat

    uh… what?

  • Guest

The writer of this article seems to be under the impression that you can get high from snorting the real bath salts that you can get at a beauty spa. The “bath salts” are not really bath salts but drugs sold under a false name to try to get under the radar. The same goes for “plant food.” If you fed your plants this kind of “plant food,” they’d probably die.

You need to punctuate, or no one will take you seriously. Let me restate:

“Let me interject. I found this article while trying to find a seller of bath salts, so I can take it, in like, stuff, like that. Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t – get too high, addicted and/or act crazy while on drugs- never have, never will. Once every here and there, I will take ecstasy and cocaine, but I can tell you this: I know a lot of tweakers – addicts- and a lot of ecstasy I have done myself. This stuff does not compare to those drugs, highs or addictions (unclear). The only people who say it does, are naive and haven’t done real stuff -real drugs- or just think that they sound cool. Even mysel, a user, only heard about bath salts a year ago and it is simply a weaker alternative for ecstasy, when I cannot find ecstasy. So unless you have experimented with drugs in general and bath salts in particular, shut the hell up. You, the writer of this article, the publisher of the website,  and commenters, are the annoying liberal bastards who are stubborn, and think they know everything because they heard what they know from another liberal bastard and just won’t believe anything else.”

See, now we know you don’t know probably don’t know what liberal means, and cannot take you seriously because you sound like an idiot, not because you are illiterate.

  • Djwyattkla

Wow Joseph, I have never seen a sentence go on as long as a paragraph. If you must do drugs, stick to drugs that are known instead of dipping tampons and shoving them in your ass or snorting bath salts. Jesus! what happened to the days of just drinking cough syrup?

  • Angus_25

these “bath salts” areno more dangerous than any other hard drug, its jus the same.. only thing is its being sold legal and these DUMBA$$’s doing the stuff decided to use just too much and overdid themselves and like any other hard drug or hallucinogen such as heroin or pcp or opium can cause a person to overdose and even die , so if u have an addictive personality or absolutely NO willpower, stay away from drugs. and if u choose to use drugs at least use them responsibly enough NOT to kill yourself!!

  • Bryanfrd6

  • Wgmills23

I just tried some stuff earlier today called bubbles bath salts and it was just like molly, felt really similar to MDMA for the most part, besides the mass amounts of energy included. Ive never tweeked/meth but i would consider this the closest thing. It makes the most sense because the chemicals inside these basalts are very similar to meth/cocaine/mdma. Does the same kinda thing to you mentally/physically unless you take to much. I started having chest pains later on after using a couple times this afternoon. I last used around 1am and it is now 4:20am…ironic. I dumped most of it out and only kept enough to get me going in the morning if i need it. The only beneficial thing this drug offers is potential for more constructive thinking because you feel free from physical binds like MDMA you feel great no matter where you are or what your doing. Any situation/location is the best you have ever had or been in at that moment. Taking these bath salts will get you that adoral/meth/tweek like high, but there are to many downside affects. Most of these effects are worse than the effects of meth. At least with meth you know the chemistry behind it, but this stuff is some over the counter meth like substitute that should be illegal for sure. The only reason for no DEA officers bustin down this free drug trade is because the govt. wants people to die. The govt. wont act upon this because they want to introduce new drugs into the market to either profit even more off the public or to watch some experiment and see what happens to people down the line towards old age. Probably to see if it causes cancer or cures cancer. Im sure this drug could be used in controlled quantities at a medical facility to unlock lost emotions and vanquish the guilt or loss’s of persons past. I have seen this done with MDMA which is quite alright in my opinion. But bath salts should only be used on thoughts with the most extreme cases of depression or loss from ones self. It is to strong and to available of a drug to not be abused. Maybe very diluted samples should be sold so as it’s effects are similar to a mild body high or moderate in increase of well-being and worth.

  • Hobags67

right on man i do hard core shit all the time and ive done meth and M1 which is like molly and everything you could name and bath salts are barely anything compared to meth or crack its a baby drug so you guys should talk aboutbthis shit unless you do drugs

  • sean

Can regular bath salt get you high or is that a myth?

  • Niggaplease

    lolz

  • Shazhill

Can you please re-write this so a normal person can read it?  Your abbreviations are understood but you sentence structure is so twisted they are hard to read.  Oh wait, could this possibly be a result of your occasional drug use?

  • Kbs

ACTUALLY ArthurTaylor, one of my childhood friends died yesterday because she snorted bath salts and jumped 10 stories from an apartment building. So no, this article does not “have it SO wrong on SO many levels.” Drugs affect each person differently. All this writer is trying to do is bring awareness to the dangers of this particular one, which can obviously be very serious, while all you have done is refute something that is apparently “not your thing at all.”

  • Jennalynn

Interesting comment, considering you have no experience :)

  • Shboingin

How did they get the kid’s urine after he was dead?

  • Andrew Spark

Yeah it looks like drugs didn’t mess YOUR brain up! Hahahaha

  • Mrs Furrow

Very interesting article! Everyone that responded had a few good pointers minus the spelling and punctuality. Hey we all type some mistakes even the ones complaining about it…Anyways, After watching the news and hearing about this naked zombie looking guy eating another guys face in Florida; I decided to google more about the situation…..My thoughts: So If you want to consume “bath salt’ turn into a cannabal eating naked looking zombie that most likely will get shot down 6 times by a police officer then your mentally disabled and needs to be held in a physcoword for real… think about others ha because how would you feel about someone coming up to you and biting a chunk of meat out your face. NICE! “phycos on bath salt” would rather see in a movie rather in person. A word to those in need of a high lay off the curiosity it kills. LITERALLY*

Sounds like some nasty stuff to me if it made a guy eat a poor homeless mans face off like a zombie. You better be carefull you could be next in the zombie apocolyps because you wanna get high.

Hate to break not to you but you’re wrong. If you don’t believe me you can go ask the guy who got 70% of his face eaten off by a guy high on bath salts and see if he thinks that bath salts are just as harmless as ecstacy

  • Fldkj2

This “bath salts” is not what you but to put in your bath!! They sell this drug under the name “bath salts”

  • Hurw

Hey you dumbass. You certainly do write as if you’ve injested you share of drugs in your lifetime. Really intelligent. Good luck at Oxford!

  • krumble104

You don’t know much about ecstasy, do you…just the bull’ the government has been feeding you.

  • jackster

Look at all these drug-takers with no punctuation skills, I wonder if its the lack of education or the drugs? I haven’t heard any stories of people on ecstasy chewing peoples’ faces off- for me its just gotten me really happy and wanting to keep moving, hence why it’s known as the party drug.
Thus, to say that bath salts (on the premise that it makes people stab others/themselves, chew their faces off) are ‘as bad as’ ecstasy is to be making weak claim.

  • Binky123

this is just NOT right .y r people trying just anything for a buzz these days .is life really that hard

Bath salts are dangerous. I live in Southwest Missouri, a place that is quite possibly meth central. Many of the local gas stations still sell the bath salts, marketed as “Pump It” and “99MPH.” Recently here in my own county we’ve watched four people die from brain anurisms, with the exception of one suicide, all confirmed caused by this substance. The man that committed suicide I knew personally, he was a big time meth addict, nothing scared him, but something with this shit scared him so bad he stabbed himself repeatedly. This is more dangerous than probably half or more of the illegal substances, yet it’s available “over the counter, at the convenient price of $9.99″

This type of ignorant writing is the worst thing someone supposedly “concerned” about drug abuse can do.   It’s right up there with “Reefer Madness” for inaccuracy, but the big difference is that no amount of marijuana is going to make someone hurl themselves through an upper story window like in that “educational film” while the drugs SOLD UNDER THE NAME OF “bath salts” are absolutely capable of causing bizarre and/or dangerous behaviour in some people when abused.  Or should we say abused incorrectly?   Whatever.   I used to stay awake for 5 to 15 days or longer on Meth in the 1980′s and at that point the people from the “other world” are more or less just walking about the house with you if you know what I mean.   I never hurt anyone but myself thank God, but could easily have done so thinking they were a demon or something.   In my case it was just the wakefulness more than the drug, the brain cannot function without sleep for 2 weeks.  surprise, surprise surprise…

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/QSPNS3QEZZGYNJ363H42K4RBMM moronpolitics

Stop and think.   hundreds of thousands of people have tried or used this drug.   How many faces have been eaten off by drug crazed zombies?  Logic indicates that this was an extreme reaction in someone who may have used MOAI’s (which can make red wine or bleu cheese and/or 1000 other substances into powerful mind altering drugs) or had an underlying condition such as schizophrenia.   Were this anything like a typical reaction, then very few people would use it more than once and those familiar with the results on their friends would avoid it like the plague.   An example is Jimson Weed, growing in my front yard right now and widely known as Hell’s Lilly and/or the drug nobody tries twice.  Although I tried almost anything offered for 20 years I NEVER tried JW and never will.  Nutmeg produces hallucinations similar to STP or LSD, but only after the vomiting and you have a headache like the worst hangover ever times two.    THAT ONE I did try.   ONCE.   Once again, logic indicates that these “bath salts” are more pleasurable and less dangerous than these other two just mentioned.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/QSPNS3QEZZGYNJ363H42K4RBMM moronpolitics

Well, on second reading I realized that this idiot credited the stupidest ideas to the Washington Post.    I can assure you that these drugs are NOT repeat NOT found in any commercial bathing products although they may well be in some plant foods.  They are called bath salts only because they LOOK like powdered soap and so an early user/salesman came up with the idea of calling them Ivory Snow etc.    Many of us used to buy “incense” 20 years ago that were sold with the understanding wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more eh eh? eh?  that we were going to go home and smoke said “incense” as a cheap and rather ineffective replacement for opium or hashish.    THAT at least was a bit more believable since they did make a lot of smoke and stink up the room if you lit up a lump.    I suspect that you can soak your feet or your whatever with these “bath salts” but it MIGHT be a bit on the expensive side.     ’nuff said.   I shall retire to moronpolitics dot com.   good night.
ps if they would just make Desoxyn legal they could save a lot of people a lot of trouble.   I had a script for 60 days back in 1981 and it changed my life.  I quit IHOP and went back to school.    Then my damned doctor retired.   PISS.   I made it through the year on 5 packs of marlboro’s and 15 cups of coffee a day.

  • Royg

    The article is WRONG.
Actual bath salts and plant foods don’t contain these chemicals at all, if you put it on a plant it would probably just kill it. The chemicals are simply LABLED as “bath salts” or “plant food” with a warning lable saying “not for human consumption” or “external use only” so that it doesn’t fall within the jurisdiction of the FDA, so isn’t subject to investigation and safety assessment. IT IS NOT ACTUALLY BATH SALTS, nor does it have anything to do with actual bath salts, it’s just labled that as a way of getting around the law.
If you want to sell a powerful psychoactive drug legally, you can’t sell it as something that people ingest or smoke, it has to be sold as something completely unrelated, therefore the people who make the product are not liable for “misuse” of the product, since using it to get high(the only thing it can be used for) goes against the “intended” method of usage listed on the packaging.
It’s like JWH and other synthetic cannabinoid based herb blends sold as potpourri or incense with the lable saying to only use in a ventilated area and to never directly inhale the smoke….Yet they usually have a big picture of a marijuana leaf, joint or a bong on the packaging, since the only purpose the mix can actually be used for is for smoking. It smells like ass when used as incense and doesn’t burn properly and it doesn’t smell strong enough to use as potpourri. It is NOT what it is labled as.
Whoever wrote this article knows NOTHING about the subject.
I have no interest in these drugs and have never even seen them in person, yet I know a thousand times more than the moron who wrote this article.

  • Lboushi_69

Why are you guys arguing over what drug is more powerful than the other? Anyone who has half a brain in their head would stay away from any drug. Period. Ingesting a poison into your body for an altered state of reality just sounds fucked up. Anyone who does that should go get help immediately.
