Bill Gates Is Absolutely CRUSHING a Reddit AMA Right Now

Programmer, technologist, philanthropist and strong contender for King Of The Geeks Bill Gates is about 45 minutes into an AMA on Reddit right now, folks, and he is absolutely killing it. From his predictions on what the next big changes in technology will be to fielding questions on how to more effectively introduce vaccines in the developing world, Gates is being kind of the man right now in what is a pretty excellent AMA, following questions right down into the nitty gritty of comments and being smarter and funnier than you expect while doing it. If you haven’t poked your head in yet, this is your cue to do so right now.

Having not read his reddit thingy, I would like to say something about it.

When someone who is actively a part of the advancement of technology makes predictions, they aren’t really predictions. They are hinting at things they are working on or have first hand knowledge of so just take any “predictions” with a grain of salt before you anoint him savior of the universe.

Kinda like when an actor gets asked about what’s happening in the upcoming season of a show and they let something slip about his or her character, this isn’t a prediction because they have first hand knowledge of said events.

    Just sayin :D

Haven’t read the thread yet either, but your comment makes no sense.
Sounds like your saying don’t believe his ‘predictions’, or don’t read too much into them, while on the other hand also saying that whatever he says is likely to happen will happen as he has insider knowledge?

And as far as I’m aware I doubt he does much R&D nowadays, he’s mainly concerned with philanthropy and humanitarian work

Exactly! His predictions aren’t really predictions because he has first hand knowledge thus negating any prognostication. He’s not predicting anything if he already knows whats gonna happen.

I’m not saying don’t believe him, just understand that hes telling you things he already knows but is framing them in a way as not to leak info that could hurt R&D.

Just because hes not knee deep into the R&D end of things any longer doesn’t mean hes not aware. He still needs to be aware of things as a business owner and someone who will lead things to market for that business. I’m sure he has people that do much of the leg work for him but he still is in the know about the things his company does.

He’s not really active in technology anymore from my understanding, nowadays he’s mostly doing things like eradicating diseases from the third world. But he does still have a superior sense of what does and doesn’t work in that market, compared to an average person.

  • Idlethoughts

He is no longer employed by windows, therefore incapable of “first hand knowledge”, and frankly he doesn’t really care that much. When a man donates half his total life savings into a humanitarian trust that he created, I think its pretty clear what he’s dedicating his life to.
