Bill O’Reilly’s Tidal Skepticism Launches “You Can’t Explain That” Meme

Last month, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly stepped into instant Internet infamy when, in a debate with American Atheists president David Silverman, O’Reilly attempted to prove the existence of God by citing the mystery of the tides: “I’ll tell you why [religion is] not a scam, in my opinion. Tide goes in, tide goes out. Never a miscommunication. You can’t explain that. You can’t explain why the tide goes in.” Only one problem: There’s this thing called the Moon which might have a little to do with tides.

More recently, O’Reilly attempted to clarify his remarks (sort of) by asking, “where’d the Moon come from?” But this too opened O’Reilly’s flank to any number of scientific counters, and anyway, the damage had been done. Fairly or not, O’Reilly had been pegged as an ignoramus who blindly defended faith not with reasoned arguments, but with questions that could be answered with a quick Wikipedia lookup.

Thanks to a spirited Reddit thread last night, O’Reilly’s gaffe is well on its way towards becoming a meme. An image macro in the Advice Dog vein, the O’Reilly meme features Papa Bear’s head on a red-and-blue backdrop. In the top half of the image, he asks about conundrums which are more Seinfeld than metaphysics: How does bread turn into toast? Why does water come back when you flush the toilet? And why would Chewbacca, a seven-and-a-half foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor with the runty Ewoks? You can’t explain that.

Below, the O’Reilly meme in action:

Even if you have the gall to try to explain any of these mysteries, please don’t be desperate about it:

It’s disturbing how willing some people are to keep their self in the dark.

I hope this meme becomes huge. Bill O’Reilly makes a living from being a loud-mouthed windbag, and his opinions are misinformed at best. I hope this meme gains such attention that he’ll be forced to confront the attention. Unfortunately, I doubt whether public shaming in the form of being exposed as an idiot will actually do anything to deflate his already over-sized ego, but it would be nice to see papa bear come to the realization that just because he has a thought (if thats what you’d like to call the stuff in his head), it doesn’t automatically make it true, and that science is the quest for understanding. His contempt for scientific rigor isn’t just backwards, it’s dangerous; because it’s exactly that type of thought that led people to which burning not too long ago. It’s too bad that he sees knowledge as a threat. Personally I’m going to do my part and spread this meme as widely as possible. “Science Fair? You kids are just desperate.”

  • I love Peace

this guy represents everything I hate about America

  • AlphaBase1

Yay! I’m a lefty too! I hate that Bill O’Reilly and Faux News! What a bunch of dumb racist they are! I watch MSNBC like I’m supposed to. Nothing the mock about those people. Nope. Who’s with me! Come on! Yay!

  • You are dumb

Damn, someone’s butt hurt. The idiot thinks the tides are an act of God.

  • AlphaBase1

Dude, I know! I read that on the Huffington Post too! What in idiot! I’ve never actually watched Faux Noise myself, but I hear all the time about how dumb and stupid they all are! We should all leap on one thing that dumb idiot says and totally a meme out of it! It’ll get on Geekosystem for sure! Who’s with me? Yay!

Also, bro – you’re kinda scaring me with the ‘butt hurt’ violent rhetoric. Maybe dial that down a bit. Ok! Thanks!

  • Cannibalist

One thing? This man has got his whole career based on saying some of the dumbest shit I have ever heard on television. And besides this meme is also based on his ignorance on the amount of moons Mars has, how the moon was formed and how stars are formed. It’s pretty much the ICP Miracle Meme rebooted(how do magnets work?). Hell I’m surprised there isn’t another meme based on him interrupting the president 43 times in one interview. Bill O’reilly is a scumbag, and anyone who watches Fox’s programming is nothing but an ignorant lemming.

  • Anonymous

Yay!!! I’m a lefty to! I’ve nevr red any of his books, hundreads of newspaper colums, nor watched his TV show, but I hate that Nazee because Keeth Olberman toled me to. Hes almost as bad as Sarah Palin, whose abilitys to control tea-bagers minds allowed her to enginear the AZ massarcer where that congreswoman got shot in the hed.

I hav an idea for an even better meme! Combine Oreilly and that snarly wolf! Best. Meme. Ever!

  • salman

    Grow up.

  • Sixty-_-nine

    Seriously, grow up.

See? This is what stupid people do when you challenge their ignorance. Don’t back stupid people into a corner, they attack with idiocy!

  • Anonymous

*Rolling eyes* Oh, brother, another stupid chain letter that got the anti-Christian twits howling with laughter until they grow fur… I’m going to smash this stupid meme on my own site, because I break chain letters, I am a Christian, sick of religious exploitation chain letters and the resulting lulz the anti-Christians derive from them. Sheesh!

  • Anonymous

So you’re going to spread a chain letter and you believe witch burnings were not long ago, wow, good going…(Sarcasm)

  • AlphaBase1

Grow up? This is a thread about memes. I think I’d have to be grown up to discuss this topic.

Here, I’ll prove it to you:

I spend hours every night on Reddit and /b/, slamming F5 and trying to roll dubs.

Then I see this hysterical Bill O’Smelly meme – that guy is such a stupid loudmouth. I hate him!

Then I think of my own Bill O’Smelly meme (“I’m so stuupid! You can’t explain that!”).

Then I go to the meme generator and its generates the meme. I can’t explain how it generates memes, but trust me. It does!

Then I post it on /b/ and hope all the other grownups like it.

They all call me a ‘newfag’. No way dude! That blows!

    ***
There, see. All grown up. I’m kinda surprised I had to write it all out for you like this. I guess you lost – THE GAME! Yay!

  • AlphaBase1

Dude! I get it! I’m on your team! I hate that ignorant O’Reilly scumbag. I want everyone on the whole Internet to know – I’m a good person and I hate all the right people.

I get memes. Memes are what smart people like us make about stupid bad people who don’t think like us. I get memes, I laugh at memes, I even try to make memes myself. But so far, no one on Reddit thinks mine are funny. Come on – laugh at my memes! I hate Sarah Palin! Who’s with me?

I saw this meme ones that was the frog that was talking about blasting things with piss! Holy shit that was funny! Not about Faux News, but still – really funny!

But anyway, enough about frog piss blasting – this is about all the moons on Mars. And stupid Faux News watching lemmings. Come on! Yay!

  • sophiecapri is stupid

No one is calling Bill O’Reilly a witch or something else he’s not. It’s plain to see that he’s an idiot. Your argument shows that you may follow the same logic that Bill presents. Go read a book.

    Satan rules!!
It’s not a religion, it’s a relationship. I am Satan’s son and I am here to troll you.

  • http://twitter.com/benderunit9000 N D

religion has nothing to do with any of this. Educated common sense and acceptance of the NATURAL world dictates that Big Bad Bill O’Reilly is from another dimension and cannot accept the rules of our universe.

  • God Rules and satan drools!

I just recently read a book, that likened Evolution to the chance of a tornado ripping through a junkyard, and assembling a Cadillac or assembling any vehicle for that matter. I believe the chances are actually better for the car. Also, if evolution is true, why did we evolve mouths? If we evolved mouths because we needed to eat, how did we survive without them long enough to evolve the mouth. And, if we didn’t need the mouth to eat to stay alive, why did we evolve the mouth if it wasn’t needed? I’m so confused!!!

  • shadowdweller

  • Issunboshi

    lrn2evolution

  • Draco

Oh, come on. Logically, what ELSE are they going to attack with? And you’re assuming that they know what corners are and can actually tell when they’re in one…

I mean, really. This person honestly seems to think that by changing his “name” from AlphaBase1 to moonbataphobe no one will notice he’s the same sad troll determined to ignore legitimate criticisms leveled at O’Reilly’s appalling lack of scientific knowledge and just spout generic right-wing sarcasm (badly, I might add) like some sort of obsessed parrot. Are memes silly? Sure they are. That’s the whole point. No one here’s ever claimed otherwise. He just hasn’t grasped that yet, so… (see first two sentences of this comment).

  • http://twitter.com/h4x354x0r Derrick Fogle

LOL… evidence that God is nothing more than the embodiment of ignorance. The less you know, the closer to God you are. I just wonder if humans will ever gain enough knowledge to alleviate the need for God.

  • AlphaBase1

Dude! You’re like some kind of creepy psychic sorcerer! Troll hunter!! Using “logic” to determine that entries with different “name(s)” that both mock dopey lefty “legitimate criticisms” are both the same “obsessed parrot”! Science!

Don’t group me with that ‘moonbataphone’ guy! I’m smarter, and I’m not being sarcastic either. I know what corners are! I love science and hate non-science believing people! How’d Bill O’Smelly get into Harvard anyway? You gotta be kidding me! Who’s with me on that, huh?

Memes are not silly! They’re serious tools used to make legitimate criticisms at some dumb non-science guy’s show we never ever watch – that’s the whole point of this! We watch The Daily Show!

Rush Limbaugh – no way! I’ve never listened to that guy either. Don’t need to – I know what he says. It’s all like ‘I’m a big fat racist. The world is flat! Obama is dumb. blah blah blah. etc.”. Jeez! Enough with that guy already!

Smart people (not sad trolls that that other jerk guy) are making memes at this very minute and putting them on Reddit, and making the serious, legitimate criticisms that need to be made. Right? More memes! Come on! Yay!

  • Anonymous

You do realize that people are still tortured and killed in parts of the world because they are believed to be witches, right? In some parts of Africa albinos are killed and their body parts sold as ingredients in ‘black magic’ potions. My example of which burning was just used to illustrate a point; and really, in the big scheme of things, the dark ages really weren’t that long ago (but I was too lazy to look up the actual dates). As for spreading some sort of chain letter, I don’t think I’ll be doing that. But I will try to think of and make as many of these “you can’t explain that” memes as possible.

Your assuming that people that disagree with Rush and Bill and Beck and Coulter are only people that dont read what they write or hear what they say. whereas there probably are people out there that bandwagon rightist-bashing, most rational people that read what those people write, disagree with them. Alphabase’s entire premise is that bandwagoning isnt rational, whilst true, it doesnt dissolve the merit of why the right are being made fun of.

  • AlphaBase1

Dude! Yes! Irrational! Those other people are both stupid AND irrational!

Bandwagoning is bad! And not rational.

Unless, or course, you yourself have sampled what millions of other people think and believe, and come to the rational conclusion that all RATIONAL people disagree with this. Then you’re not bandwagoning anymore! Now you’re rationally mocking millions of people with MERIT.

Right? We can do that because all those other people are so stupid and irrational! They’d have to be if they didn’t think like we all do, which is the smart way! Who’s with me? Yay!

What are all those Fox idiots doing instead of making memes? Working at jobs and raising families? lol,jk. They’re out burning books, duh!

Those morons probably don’t even know what a meme is anyway! They’d be all like “what’s a me-me? Is this how you spend your free time? You mother and I want you to move out of the basement.” As if! I still haven’t made a decision about grad school yet!

And besides, I can’t afford to move out because my stupid boss won’t give me a raise! “Barely meets expectations?” – whatever! He probably watches Fox and Bill O’Reilly too – I already know he’s an idiot and stupid! So its logical. Yay!

  • http://decartes-einstein.blogspot.com/ Phil Warnell

Many here as with those the likes of David Silverman seem to be as ignorant as Billy O’ Reilly in not being able to distinguish religion from having a belief in God. That is Science itself although a philosophy whose strength is it being rooted in doubt, has one thing it truly believes in and that is reality being ultimately a reasonable construct and yet can’t explain why it should. From my point of view if people spent more time on seeking having a true understanding and less on justifying their righteousness, that is regardless of the banner they contend to rally around, the better off we all would be.

“And yet, that the primitive religions are based entirely on fear and the religions of civilized peoples purely on morality is a prejudice against which we must guard. The truth is that all religions are a varying blend of both types, with this differentiation: that on the higher levels of social life the religion of morality predominates………………. But there is a third stage of religious experience which belongs to all of them, even though it is rarely found in a pure form: I shall call it cosmic religious feeling. It is very difficult to elucidate this feeling to anyone who is entirely without it, as there is no anthropomorphic conception of God corresponding to it…….A contemporary has said , not unjustly, that in this materialistic age of ours the serious scientific workers are the only profoundly religious people”

-Albert Einstein,” Science and Religion” (New York Times Magazine, Nov. 9, 1930)

Or in general just like what so many radio talk show people have figured out. Since they are the moderators of their own shows they will always look like their views are right by cutting off people who have a different point of view. But O’Reilly tried a common defense by trying to change the subject rather than admitting he is wrong about anything.

spending lord knows how long coming up with ‘humor’ about people you clearly sought out with the sole intention of mocking and coming off sounding like a retarded lawn gnome anyway? wow, that’s like, the bestest use of your awesome mature grown-up time ever.

  • years of logical observation

It’s sad, but there is definitely a large percentage of people out there who only look at things one way, never re-think something they ‘know’, and refuse to absorb new evidences or facts because “I’m right, I know I am, and this guy saying this is wrong! Because I’m right! So what he is saying is stupid!” These people can’t imagine any situation in which they aren’t directly involved, they think things are simple, and they usually can explain anything in about a sentence or so, because they never have to produce evidence or reasoning. They think they’re right all the time and they think people who disagree with them must be wrong. Why explain something if you don’t care whether the person you’re talking to understands? These people think they are always right and that if somebody doesn’t believe them, than that person is stupid. They never think “I wonder if this and this, than this” or “How would blah react to blah if blah?” because in their minds, they’re always correct, so there is never any question of what something is going to be like, they only think “If this than this” or “She is blah since blah”. There is no reason applied to anything, only what the person ‘thinks’ they already know.

Given time and encouragement, these people turn into Bill. Always right now matter how wrong. The problem is stupid parents telling they’re kids stupid things, like quoting the bible as fact, telling wives tales as fact, and never admitting fault. These kids are raised to think the same way, they have these lies and misconceptions implanted in their head as truth, with encouragement from family, and they develop the ‘ego’, this thing that requires no outside confirmation, this confidence in things and a determination to ignore argument because you’re right and the argument will confuse you. These kids go to school and it spreads there too.

Luckily the internet has made the truth more available, has made fact checking and looking at multiple sources for similar information an easy thing, and it has become easier to weed out the misinformation and know when and when not to believe what is being said.

Unfortunately these people who think they’re always right are not going to change because you tell them to, they’re not going to look at facts or rethink what they believe. They will just spread this insane “always right” mentality by pulling Bill O’s. The only way for these people to change is for them to see that they are wrong, but how do you make somebody who thinks they’re always right admit they’ve been wrong for years about what life really is?

I have faith that with time people will figure it out, that seems to always be the case if we look at history, but for now these people are causing problems. Keep your kids away from them. Don’t turn on the news. Don’t let your kids go to church. Over-inflated egos will tell tall tales as fact and after a while of believing them you’ve become just as brainwashed, you will start to take everything said as fact, and delusional you will become.

Come on people, if there is no evidence for something, than it either did not happen or is not factoring into life at all. If you get punched in the face it hurts. You might even get a bruise. This isn’t ‘magic’, it’s how shit works. Every time. That’s how things work, if you do a specific thing, there is a specific reaction that always happens. Even if you can do the same thing twice with different results, it isn’t ‘god’ making that happen, but the usually very numerous variables in the situation that will effect the result. There is a reason for everything, and it’s sad people can’t see the connection.

I’m one of those you’ve mentioned that have condemned O’Reilly in the past and, if Bill’s current track record is any indication, I’ll likely be forced to condemn him for more of his special brand of brazen and wanton stupidity in the future. He hasn’t a clue about anything, political or scientific. He’s nothing more than a big giant head who relies exclusively on misinformation and near-fanatic Neocon soundbites. He prefers his own authority and ‘smoke and mirrors’ politics to actual reality. FYI – I have watched and will regularly watch FOXes talking heads to see what shape their assault on the issues will take and I have yet to find anything fair and balanced in their reporting. No offense, but I’ll always prefer reality to their manufactured bullshit.

good stuff, but one of them actually makes sense, for shame! Really though, how are there still monkeys when evolutions forces a Change or Die scenario, which is why we have birds and not Raptors now. How many other species died instead of evolving? And how many evolved but some of them didn’t? None, unless you believe the theory that humans came from monkeys. Now, before you answer this, take into consideration the myrad of other things we have in our genetic pool that is also shared with other animals, like frogs, those are simply vestiges of a time when we needed whatever the particular gene sequence was (For example, lots and lots of hair, which was something we had when we didn’t have adequate shelter and lived ina much colder climate). Evolution does happen yes, but a species either evolves or dies, they don’t leave some behind to stay the same, so if humans evolved from something other than humans, that species is gone now.

whats sad is when people like you talk about facts like they should be worshipped, but when the facts don’t back up what they are saying they refuse to admit said facts even exist. No, not everything is god, infact, if you read the bible god made the world as an experiment. What scientist in thier right mind messes with an experiment after it is started? None of them, it would bias or ruin the experiment completely. In my opinion, after he finished setting things up he washed his hands of everything and is just watching. Also love how you went sooooo simple for a reason, everyone understand that right? Ofcourse they do, thats how you get people to agree with you, you say something everyone can agree on. Ofcourse it’s not magic, thats just retarded to say and also says volumes about how you see the world, so in the end really, it’s sad when people like you try to force others to believe the way you do just because you are bitter at the world. Free will exists, we can all make up our own minds, and if someone chooses to have a simple life then they don’t deserve to be critisized for it. Not everyone is a leader, not everone is a follower, yet you assume they have to fit into one of those two categories, good job!

actually the last documented witch burning happened in the 1950′s (so no not that long ago) in mexico.

  • guest101

but if you did the barest amount of research (obviously too difficult for you), you’d see that humans did not ‘come from monkeys’. But that monkeys and humans share a common ancestor.

So at some point waaaaaay long ago monkeys took a right on the evolutionary path, and what would eventually become homo sapiens took a left.

and that common ancestor did not evolve and adapt so IT died out.

It’s not about being a lefty or hating Fox News. It’s about a high-profile member of the media who made himself out to be an idiot. You’re taking it out of context. I consistently side with Republicans, but that doesn’t make this ‘not funny’. It doesn’t mean I believe in God and it doesn’t make me doubt evolution. He’s getting his just desserts for being such a know-it-all.

The only people who laugh at O’Reilly over this were laughing at him already. He was trying to come off poetic – the grandeur of nature PROVES god exists, blah, blah, blah. Mocking him over this is pointless and if it has an effect, it is to further polarize and limit public conversation. I’m with Alphabase on this one…if you want O’Reilly, Beck and Limbaugh to go away, challenging them is counter-productive.

  • years of logical observation

This person proves my point exactly, I’m glad you posted! Here, let me answer this ridiculousness.

First you say something completely off topic and unrelated, about how ‘people like me’ (?) refuse to admit facts if they don’t back up what is being said? What? I mean damn if it my ‘facts’ are so flawed than they aren’t facts, are they?

Than you say that God created the world as ‘an experiment’ and then say modern day scientists wouldn’t mess with an experiment once it was started. OK well both these things are just wrong, I HAVE read the bible you dumbass, and it doesn’t say anything about a fucking experiment, it says God created the Earth cause he was egotistical or some shit. It also says he killed thousands of people often for petty sins. Sounds like a great guy. And scientists would totally mess with an experiment after it started if that was part of the experiment. You obviously think science is pouring some chemicals into beakers on PBS or something. To make something a viable experiment you have to run a base test, to determine whatever it is in the experiment they need to know, and then you run subsequent tests and only change one variable from the original base and observe the changes that occur. That way if something happens you only changed one thing and you know it was that change that caused the result. That is science. I hope you learn some.

The rest of your comment is just nonsense, I really hope your a troll or something, because your one of the biggest hypocrites I’ve ever come across on the internet, and that’s saying a lot. You want me to be wrong and you back up your correctness with complete nonsense that just tries to insult me and make me look bad, without proving me wrong at all.

“Free will exists, we can all make up our own minds, and if someone chooses to have a simple life then they don’t deserve to be critisized for it. Not everyone is a leader, not everone is a follower, yet you assume they have to fit into one of those two categories, good job!”

I agree with you that people have a right to make up their own minds, but the ratio of atheists to Christians/etc that have tried to convince me of this God, for hours on end, often without my ability to leave, and tell me all these bad things will happen if I don’t believe, that ratio is like 1:250. So as soon as ya’ll religious peoples stop telling children crazy things and lies about how you know it’s all true, and leave us alone and keep your faith to yourself, than I won’t have an issue when that happens. And I don’t know how that leader or follower thing works out but I don’t care at all what people do with their lives, I just want as many people as possible to be healthy and live fairly happy lives. Your ‘God’ agrees with me on that, too bad most christians only pick and choose what parts of their religion to believe in and act on, and helping those in need seems only to apply to Haitians and South Americans, probably because it’s nice to vacation their under the guise of ‘work of god’, huh?

OK So yea this person is what I’m talking about, I just hope you read that and at least see that I might know what I’m talking about.

tl/dr; this person is doing teh thing that i said in teh other post! lolz!!

No, species do not evolve. Populations evolve. Given enough changes in the distribution of alleles (think of them as gene ‘settings’ like game settings), it may occur that members of one population cannot mate with another population of what is supposedly the same species to produce offspring capable of reproduction. When this occurs, it is called speciation.

Some populations may maintain a stable distribution of alleles. This means that they are not evolving. Which means that yes, some populations don’t evolve, or if they evolve, we are unable to detect the evolution easily. In that case, it requires close scientific study.

Evolution does not force a change or die scenario. It’s true that over enough time a species may die out if it is not well adapted. Other times, it may evolve in such a way that it is barely recognizable as a form of its earlier self, much in the same way that French appears so far removed from Latin. Latin never died out; it simply evolved into a number of different languages. Since we still have a record of classical Latin, we can compare French to its ancestor just as we compare species to fossils of their ancestors. Birds are not recognizably dinosaurs. Some species of dinosaurs were surely wiped out. Those populations that survived evolved in response to evolutionary pressures such as ecology and sociobiological factors, and over time became what we call birds.

How did the mouth evolve? Where’d it come from? Huh? What did we eat with before the mouth? How come some things don’t have mouths? How do they eat? How did the first people eat enough to grow a mouth if they never had a mouth? The chicken or the egg? You can’t explain that. Look. Adam and Eve had kids. They had sex with their sisters. And that’s where we all came from! Incest! No miscommunication!

I’m sick of left wingers hating all right wingers and visa versa. Conservatives have to understand that not all right wingers are dumb, they just have different priorities than you, which doesn’t make them sister banging hicks. At the same time, conservatives should stop hating all liberals and not defend all their activists to the death. People like Bill O’Reily and Sarah Palin are plain and simple unintelligent and overly biased. Hank Johnson thinks Guam can capsize and Blagojevich can’t type so there are retarded democratic leaders as well. The two party system is creating an unmeasurable amount of bias and hatred and it creates a world where people fail to think for themselves and rely purely on the ideas of their party. People ripping on the other party harms America’s reputation and unity.

Hahaha, yeah, that was definitely a typo. My bad. Luckily though, on the internet there’s always a ton of people ready to point out a tiny mistake and miss the point of an argument. Spelling mistakes aside, not sure if that should disqualify me from having kids. Thats a bit harsh don’t you think? Anyway, without going into a protracted political debate, let me just tell you that I see my self as pretty centrist, I think the extremes on both sides have serious problems. But when a famous and influential person like Bill O’Reilly is willingly ignorant, I think he should be fair game for satire. Thats my point: if it was anyone else I’d have the same reaction regardless of their political views.

I honestly thought you were joking until I saw a few other posters who seem to be as clueless as you.

One: there is no such thing as a missing link. There are different transitional forms (Lucy, Homo habilus, Australopithecus afarensis, etc) from our common ancestor to humans, as well as from our common ancestor to chimps and Gorillas. We have found many of these transitional forms, some of which are related to us, and some which broke off and then died out. Check out Wikipedia or a museum to learn a little about our history, its pretty interesting.

“it truly believes in and that is reality being ultimately a reasonable construct and yet can’t explain why it should.”

Not necessarily sure I agree with this statement, though I am not necessarily sure I understand what your trying to say either.

I would also say that while there may not be one ‘true’ way of understanding the world there are certainly some ways that could easily be defined as untrue or incorrect. Pointing this out is not the same as simplistic arguments for an omnipotent deity.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gaelen.schumann Gaelen Schumann

You do realize that it impossible to have a discussion with you about any of this. “Look at all that science and human ingenuity has done for us” I say, “God created science and human ingenuity” you reply. I talk about the lack of evidence for god, who cite a 2000-3000 year old book as evidence that he not only existed, but sacrificed his son for us! (which makes no sense, but thats beside the point). We are just talking past each other, hopefully at some point you are able to think about the assumptions that underlie your faith. Though I am not hopeful.

What he’s saying is if evolution is true, why aren’t we still evolving? I am a Christian, and not a right-winger, but I also believe Bill O is a loudmouth idiot that makes the rest of us look bad. I follow God and God only, and don’t buy into most of what modern “religion” teaches. This doesn’t make me a religious tool, just makes me someone whose belief system is different from your own. It is FACT that the moon controls the tides. However, this doesn’t mean that God didn’t cause a rock to smash into the earth thus creating the moon. I completely understand why people believe in the scientific side of things as opposed to God. The only gripe I have is it’s ridiculous how much atheists deliberately seek out to destroy religious types. Other than a few religious nut jobs, the majority of us don’t seek you out because we are open-minded people who understand the basis of your thought…even though there are a lot more of us than you (roughly 76%).

I beg to differ. From everything I can see, the Dems are trying their asses off to make changes and the Repubs are doing everything they can to stop them without bringing their own ideas (other then religiously fueled nonsense). When one side is working for the people and the other is attacking them saying they are crazy and it’s all propaganda and myths and that “god will fix it” or “god won’t let it happen,” there is a problem. Palin saying the Obama is trying to create “death panels” is intentionally misleading, although I am of the mind that Palin never actually read his proposal in the first place.

The Repubs are loyal to their paycheck, which goes against their predominate ideals about this being a “christian nation.” Christ would certainly disapprove of their actions of being solely concerned with money and their lack of compassion for those in need. Never mind that Jesus is said to have given FREE HEALTH CARE to those in need himself, but that is “evil socialism” and “stealing from the rich to pay for the poor” in their eyes…

I don’t even believe in god or Jesus but I can see how ridiculously hypocritical this is.

Sure, people on both sides take pot-shots at each other here and there but overall, the idea of the two party system has been lost. This is not and you vs. me/Dem vs. Repub fight. The two party system is to bring different views to the table and find a middle ground. But not these days. From the Repub POV it’s a matter of “We want this and we won’t bend for you.”

Show me one Repub that is willing to end the tax cuts for the rich for the greater good of this nation and in the name of paying off our national debt. The rich have more money than brains and they still need more.

I say, you live in a country that allows you to do this and make such an insane amount of money, pay your dues. It’s only fair.

“From everything I can see, the Dems are trying their asses off to make changes and the Repubs are doing everything they can to stop them ”

You’re right. However, a couple years ago, it was the other way around, a few years from now, it will probably flip again. Whichever party doesn’t have the White House (or Senate majority, or House majority) goes on the warpath, standing in the way of what the other party wants to do, apparently completely indifferent to its affect on America, good or bad. All that matters is the next election and “preservation of the party’s integrity”. Uh….integrity? Really? Yeah, the dems like to create expensive programs we can’t afford, and the GOP like to cozen up to the rich folks and help them get richer, and a hundred other little differences, but they’re both the same, they just have different labels, and a different “mission statement”.

O’Reilly *is* a buffoon. But so are most of the pundits on the other end of the spectrum. They get ratings by being controversial, and have to keep one-upping the other guys to keep viewers. The more outlandish their words and behavior, the more people watch them.

Two points. One: Bill O’Reilly is a dingbat, and he is a disingenuous one at that. I am sure that unlike Ann Coulter and Glenn Beck, O’Reilly knows that he is spouting errant nonsense. That can be seen in the smirk that he has on his face most times, particularly when he’s appearing on the Daily Show or a program like that. But, two: With respect to those who are debating the religion/science issue here. Bill Maher put it very well on Real Time a few months ago. I’m paraphrasing, but this is the gist: Just because there are two sides to an argument does not mean that both sides are of equal validity or of merit. He was talking, I believe, about those who whine about “attacks against Christianity” in those cases when the discussion turns to how moronic are some of the things which the Religious Reich “believes.” For instance, there is no scintilla of evidence to indicate that the planet upon which we live is 7,000 years old, even if the Bible does “say so.” No evidence. Nada. Nil. Zip. Zero. And so for the Religious Reich to claim that “democracy” must necessarily mean that the nonsensical idea that the Earth is 7,000 years old must be taught to innocent children alongside the concept of evolution (and the scientifically proven fact that the Earth is, in point of fact, billions of years old) without any further comment and presenting both ideas as somehow being equal — well, that comes back to what Maher said. Just because you have an opinion, that does not automatically mean that it is in any way valid. The exact same thing applies to those who “believe” that gay people are just sloppy with themselves and could easily choose not to be gay if they just wished very, very hard (and perhaps clicked their heels together three times) for that to happen. Science looks at what is and then seeks new and proven facts to add to it. Faith starts with a myth and a set of emotions and then rejects anything that does not fit therein. One is a rigorous field of intellect. The other is not. I write that as a churchgoing Christian, by the way. I just have never found any text in the Bible in which God says to the people: “Go forth and be as stupid as you possibly can be.” Peace!

  • Allan West

We can explain that to Bill O’Reilly, but that doesn’t mean he will understand.

  • Tropicast

As is yours… figure that one out and we can ALL make some real progress.

  • TheOneandOnly

Umm… We are still evolving. Contrary to popular folk beliefs, most people who are informed about evolution are aware of the fact that evolution isn’t necessarily a progression (as in, “getting better all the time”), and humans definitely aren’t the end of the “chain.”

  • Stikfigure513

There’s one thing up there that can’t be explained by either science or religion. Bill O’Reilly speaks into a camera and people give him money.

  • Shipofthesun

“…has one thing it truly believes in and that is reality being ultimately a reasonable construct and yet can’t explain why it should.”

I would say at best. this is inaccurate. Science believes in nothing, merely proposes, records and comes to conclusions based on repeatable results. Reality is what we all agree what it is, moment to moment, according to the latest quantum theory. Note I said theory. Science doesn’t change fact to meet theory, science changes the way we think to meet fact.

Someone doesn’t understand evolution. Natural selection doesn’t apply much anymore, because pretty much anyone can get laid and reproduce. Thus we have effectively stopped evolving.

Seriously, if you people just paid attention during biology, maybe you would be able to construct slightly less ignorant arguments. Maybe we could even have… a mature debate!

  • Anonymous

Wow, way to only dissect the first sentence of my argument. I wasn’t agreeing with the person, I was stating what he thought. I have paid attention in biology and fully understand evolution.

  • Sematary

I will only reply to the second half of your reply. As an Agnostic and a student working on a science degree, I do not dispute the possibility of a deity of any kind (Christian God included) creating the moon by causing the asteroid strike. In fact of all the Abrahamic religions’ explanations for the world I vastly prefer the so called “Swiss Watch Theory” in which it is stated that god set everything up so he would just have to start the first event and then everything would unfold exactly as he had planned.

Next thing I am going to reply to, in my opinion many Atheists define their belief structure in opposition to Abrahamic religions and spend a lot of time proving them wrong. That being said people who follow Abrahamic religions do the same thing.

May I ask where do you get your “roughly 76%”? Last studies I checked only roughly 63% of Americans claimed to be Christian of any kind (I believe that was a Gallup poll from about 2 years ago). As for the world, Catholics are roughly 19%, the various Protestant religions are, I believe, something around 12%, Orthodoxy close to 7% and a similar number for Reformed. The various sects of Islam combine to about 20%, and Judaism is at roughly 5%. That means world wide all of the Abrahamic religions are only roughly 60% of the world. Though I would believe that there are nations in the Americas or Europe with 76% Christians, the two categories that spring to mind are lower than that by a decent amount.

  • Rob C

This is “youngfreestlouis.” I hadn’t realized I was signed into a different account.

First, I very much appreciate your mature response. As I said, I fully understand the views of those who are agnostic and atheist, and where they’re coming from. I’ve heard many times that those who are Christian are higher in number than those who are not, so I did a few quick searches. Every study/poll seemed to be the same. The 76% was anyone who believed in God overall, regardless of religion. I believe you are correct in the 63% of Americans being Christian.

Once again, for anyone feeling the need to reply to me: this thread is about O’Reilly, who is a total idiot. I merely wish you would not group us all with the right-wing nutjobs and see people like me as someone on a search for truth. Many have questioned my belief system, and to be honest, I can’t really explain it. It’s faith. Things have happened in my life that can only be explained by my having faith.

Furthermore, this “argument” has an impossible ending. No one is going to change each others’ mind. You could pit the most intelligent Christian against the most intelligent atheist in a discussion, but nothing would ever be solved.

Just when we think the religious reich has made the ultimate stupid statement, someone like O’Reilly comes along and shows us that, “No, we can be a LOT more stupid than that.”

Congratulations, Bill, you may be the current leader in willful ignorance ans stubborn stupidity.

  • William

Let me get this straight: you are saying that it’s smart for Bill O’Reilly to say that the tides have no known cause?

  • Anonymous

some douche is trying to douche on people for being critical and logical thinkers.

religion has a lot to do with it. this meme came from Bill trying to “prove” to an atheist god exists by saying that there are things in the natural world that we can’t understand… therefore if we cannot explain it right this very moment, IT MUST BE HIS JUDEO-CHRISTIAN GOD. Religious people like Bill prefer to be ignorant to science and go with the lazy cover-all “god did it.”

Maybe I’m a troll myself, I’m not sure. Maybe I’m gonna piss off most everyone by the time I’m done. If I wasn’t stuck at home, running a fever, I wouldn’t be here. And, as I’m feverish, I cannot promise my coherence. Still, I read through the comments on both sides, and I’m forced to ask:

    Really?

I’m a progressive. No doubt about it. I’ve watched Bill O’Reilly and Fox News often enough to know that I don’t like their brand of “news” and that I don’t need to watch it anymore. It doesn’t match close enough to the reality portrayed by anyone else, and it preaches fear on a near-constant basis.

Yes, the left has problems. Many of them. We’re not good at identifying with the “common man”. We can sound disconnected from everyday problems, and more concerned with the far-away and the future than the here-and-now.

    I’ve drifted off topic, though.

Does anyone else — and I know this is going to sound like apostasy — think that maybe, in some ways, the internet has done as much to harm as to help? It’s created this fractal-like pattern of infinite diversity and color and texture and shape and flavor and wonderfulness for us to lose ourselves in, but why is that good?

If we really really really think Bill O’Reilly is a crazed egomaniac, might our energies not be better spent out there in the real world, protesting him, or taking the types of (non-violent) direct action that have forced the removal unpopular figures in decades past? Do we want to change anything, or are we actually content to mock him from the anoymous crevices of the interwebs, and to play clever snark for cheap laughs? I can’t pretend to know what everyone does with their lives, so maybe I’m way off base here. Maybe many of us are politically and socially active in the world. Maybe many of us limit such activies to the meme-o-sphere.

Maybe I was just born in the wrong decade, and can’t appreciate the magical internet world as well as my peers.

I don’t know exactly where I was going with this. Even if I did, I’m sure I wouldn’t change any minds. Sorry to have wasted your time.

You do NOT understand evolution as otherwise you would not have posted such a stupid question/statement as “why aren’t we still evolving?”

While you’re at it, let’s get one going for Glenn Beck too. That guy just makes things up, draws pictures on a chalkboard and uses those drawings as ‘proof’ of the stuff he made up! Another nutjob filling impressionable people’s heads with fear and hate.

  • Jonathan Lange

I don’t know what planet you’ve been living on Anthony, but you obviously failed to notice that Obama had control of the House AND the Senate by a huge majority to the point where the Senate was filibuster proof. He had two years of legislating where the Republicans could stop NOTHING! And we got Obamacare in return, which MORE than 50% of the country wants repealed. He took the deficit and increased it more in 2 years than Bush did in 8 years. And as for Jesus, he’s famous for his quote give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach him to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. And he is also famous for the quote, “If a man doesn’t work, neither shall he eat.” I don’t think those two comments support a nanny state ideal where entitlements are the rule and working for them is the exception. We already have a system where the more than half of the country pays ZERO Fed income tax and the top 10% of earners pay 90% of it. Next time you want to open up your ignorant mouth, try arming it with some FACTS. My facts can be checked with the US Congressional Budget Office. That’s CBO if you know your acronyms, which I’m sure you don’t.

Jonathan Lange: Show me the study/studies that say a majority of Americans “want ‘Obamacare’ repealed”. I guarantee you it says that a majority are “unhappy” with the bill, which is different: Some want it repealed, others say it doesn’t go far enough.

It’s this one-sided skewing of the facts that makes rubbish like Fox News so much worse than anything MSNBC can throw out there. They may be biased, but at least they don’t skew facts and make stuff up and use misleading footage like Fox News does.

It is about the measure of respect that “standard bearers” get from their respective parties. You name Sarah and Bill, a huge majority of right wing individuals see them as being intelligent people who articulate the beliefs of the right well. So you can see them as being legit representations of right wing thinking. Then you throw out left wing idiots that are not respected by hardly any left wing individuals, so cannot be considered legit representations of left wing thinking. See the dif?

Really? I think the AlphaBase1 posts are genius. In the same vein as “Common Sense”. Only the mangled grammar makes it imminently more stylish to read. I think it’s an absolute idea of Juvenalian humor. I would read a book of that stuff – which I find has more merit than 90% of the rest of the stuff posted here. It’s almost as funny as the O’Reilly meme.

  • tbow

Yes. I get that. I even agree with your assessment of B.O’Reilly. However, I’m willing to be that you can’t explain tides. Yes, you can talk about the mechanism of the moon’s gravitational pull increasing/decreasing with distance and position – but can you really claim to understand gravity any more than ICP can understand magnets? It’s like magic. Yes, most of us know words like “poles” and “particles” and “fields” but those ultimately are simply labels for things that we have very little understanding of. It’s not that I don’t think he’s an idiot…it’s just that I’m convinced that our ability to describe a mechanism obscures our ignorance that we DON’T really understand it. An invisible force that originates from mass, why? We THINK it’s because mass bends space and time, but that’s just the current theory – and it fits pretty good, but it will be revised in time, just like all theories.

So the question really is something more akin to, is Bill O’Reilly smarter than a 5th grader?

I have to say I agree with him somewhat. The problem is that conservatives – at least the conservatives I know – all spout pseudo-political drivel they were taught by their parents. The only views they have were passed down generation to generation, and none of them think for themselves. This is why I agree more with you, Crow, than him, although I see elitism from both sides, and if there were less of the stupid pricks screaming things they didn’t understand I would have to agree with Kevin. You also have to remember that the perception, the point of view, does matter a lot as well.

“…It’s dipshit lefties like you…”…? Really?!?! Two can play at that game. It’s dipshit right-wingers like you that don’t read the entire comment and only seem to adress things you think you can exploit to make a person with an opinion you don’t like look bad over the internet. You’re a immature asshole, yet WE’RE the ones who “shouldn’t procreate.”
I also don’t get how putting sterilants in water is leftist advice. I can see maybe one or two people suggesting it, but saying an entire group of people support a movement just because most of their political opinions match up is unfounded and baseless. Perhaps you should support your own baseless accusations instead of pointing fingers without any facts.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PHENVSKY6XHPTBL6MD6VKAS2JM Tyler Boelens

But the thing is that that isn’t necessarily true. Look at the technology we’ve developed due to our understanding of the universe. There must be at least some merit to the theories we have, especially the ones that have been around for a long time. So we don’t know what subatomic particles look like to the naked eye. The problem is that our perspective keeps us from being able to see that, but with microscopes that can be worked around. You don’t have to be skeptical of EVERYTHING.

You Ramenhead and Jonathan Lange are both wrong about Jesus or John Smith saying either of these quotes. lol

This is directly from the book of Ruth:
“If a man doesn’t work, neither shall he eat.”

This is a Chinese proverb possibly from Confucius:
“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach him to fish and he will eat for a lifetime”

I love seeing all of you minimally educated buffoons try to belittle one another, whilst halfheartedly belittling ignorant, conservative, gossip-mongering fascists and far left liberal, tyrannical socialist loving dip-shits!

And the sad thing is, each one of you are trying to seem pseudo-intellectual and failing at it miserably.

All of you idiots (and I mean all of you) need to get your heads out of your asses!

You are all doing exactly what is expected of you. They want us to argue with one another, with this, “our side is better” and “he said, she said” bullshit! There is only one side and that is our side. Here is something Abraham Lincoln quoted directly from the bible that is pertinent to this argument for the unity of our country. You can get with this, even if you are not a religious person and I am not:

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.” He was quoting from Luke 11:17, in which Jesus’ enemies claimed Jesus could cast out demons because He was in league with the devil himself. Jesus replied, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house will fall” And this is true for all governments and organizations. If we continue to have a divide in this country, we will not have one any longer…

We only need one party and one party only. That would be the American party. No division means, no more government standstill and no more constant quarreling over useless unproductive nonsense. We do not need to be fighting amongst ourselves, over things that we really don’t have any control over. If you think your voice and your vote counts, then you need to think again!

When will you people ever learn that this constant bickering is the prime reason why nothing gets done in this country? It has got to stop if the country is going to continue to be a country.

As for me, I will continue to remain unaffiliated with any political party. I do not need the hassle and I don’t need the aggravation.

Who cares? Does it matter? No – of course not. Instead of attacking and blaming everyone but yourself, do something if you are so concerned. Without checks and balances our democracy is simply a dictatorship with a prettier name.

  • RealityKing

I know I am replying late to your post, but reality is not what we agree it to be. We do not know what the reality around us is, we merely perceive some of what is around us. Our perceptions are also affected by our preconceptions. There is reality and then there is your perception of reality. People who agree with the definition of your perception of reality are likely to have similar perceptions of reality. That does not make your perception a universal reality, it just means someone else believes something similar to what you perceive reality to be.

  • RealityKing

That was one of the best comments I have read so far. You have presented ideas which can easily be debated instead of presenting your idea as absolute fact and opposing opinions as illogical or unintelligent.

I agree more with you than mostly anyone else so far. If merely identify ans issue, only going as far as emphasising it and taking no action, we might as well just sit back and say shit more stupid than what we claim is the basis for Fox news.

As far as the internet causing as much harm as help: I would possibly say it harms more than helps. The majority of people using internet are using it for the majority of the time for entertainment. The many hateful websites are allowing anti-social groups to grow to staggering new volumes. The countless ‘truth’ websites are misleading people with false information, as there are so many different accounts of the same event or history, one can simply choose the version they identify with and few check the sources.

You weren’t born in the wrong decade, your existence is evidence you are meant to be here now.

  • RealityKing

You find it hilarious as you want to belittle a person’s argument by laughing at their opinion. With only one political group, the structure would be different. I think by ‘American party’ they meant to imply that the politics of the USA should be decided by the people, not that they want a dictatorship or autocracy with one person deciding everything for all the citizens (this is merely a presumption, I didn’t write their comment but do agree with their sentiment). Your ‘democracy’ is just a pretty name.

The ideal society would still be flawed, that does not mean the current system is without more serious flaws. With both major parties being controlled by the same people, you pretty much already live under a one party government.

His presidential quote was followed by ‘this is true for all governments and organizations. If we continue to have a divide in this country, we will not have one any longer.’ It is obvious he used the quote to say it ALSO was relative to the political landscape.

Understand you don’t live within a democratic society. You have a representative democratically ELECTED government, an elitist form of Socialism for an economy, while the rest of the citizens are stuck with Capitalism. ‘Capitalism and democracy are not synonymous’ – Your comment was arrogant, like you think you are above them intellectually. Nobody argues with intellect, debates use logic and arguments use emotion.

Also, you would not find a quote to base opinions around. You would base your opinions upon your experiences, and base your argument around the point you are trying to make. I have realized that there are many, many naturally ordered things in the world:
biological processes like cellular respiration, diffusion, math, etc. I
don’t know if we have explanations for them (heh), but I still can’t
bring myself to believe that an all-powerful being created this order. I can’t explain them (heh again) but I don’t see why it has to be supernatural.
I’m okay with not knowing why until someone comes up with something
that makes sense to me, and I know it may be wrong, which is why
skepticism is important. I can understand why other people would need to
think it’s a higher power just to feel like they know more about the
world, but that is not how I feel. I accept that I can’t know
everything, no matter how much I want to.

No, it’s natural to compare it with the rest of human history…

The hatred and bias comes from the people who are paid to speak on behalf of the GOP. O’Reilly, Palin, Bachmann, Perry, Limbaugh…

You put out hatred, you get hatred back. I just explained that.

  • Sister-banging hick

Why do you hate sister-banging hicks? They just have different priorities than you!

THEMSELVES Do you not understand how poorly anything you say is perceived when you use such poor grammar?

  • MoonGodess

I am not conservative, and I do not support gay marriage (marriage is a legal, not a religious, institution, which provides legitimacy for natural-born offspring) – it is NOT a tax filing status nor a grounds for other benefits, such as insurance.  I am pro-marijuana, as I see no difference between that and alcohol if one is of age.  I am pro-choice, since no one but the woman who inhabits it is able to decide what is best for each body.

  • Yup

    Libertarian.

The two party system is intended to prevent a single set of ideals from residing in government. However, it is not true that the republicans are Christian. The party tends to be a little more “conservative” than the democrat, but that has nothing to do with any religious view. Do you think there are no Christians in the democratic party? Do you not think there are any atheists in the republican party?
This country was created because the English government was exercising control that the people did not think was right, and I happen to agree. Why do people who believe in a different way of life and a different governing policy stay here? Why not move to a country that already agrees with you?
As far as the democrats working for the people, that is an overstatement, as is your implication that they are completely flexible. So is your statement that the republicans are completely inflexible. As for the rich, why should they not reap the rewards of their labor? I go to work, and I expect to get paid. Do you go to work, and when you get your paycheck, think “some of this should get to my neighbor who is lazy and doesn’t work even when he can”? Seriously?
One last thing. All of you – learn how to utter a complete and competent thought!

This is really ridiculous what you are saying. No argument at all. Put your money in your mouth- and sing, sing, sing about it!

  • Louis

Really?  Jesus gave free healthcare?  That’s your argument?  Jesus didn’t have to pay for an MRI machine either.

  • Guest

Oh look everybody proved his point right away =/

  • Cooper

Well this “change” democrats are bringing about is Socialism. The TEA party sides with freedom, Republicanism/Democracy, and our founders. So you really think that they’d just go along as our President tries to turn this great nation into Greece?

  • Cooper

This “change” the TEA party is trying to stop is called socialism. The TEA party sides with Democracy, Freedom, Republicanism, our founders, and the Constitution as written (including that 2nd amendment).
Now actually, people on the “far right” give the biggest percent of their income to charity. Jesus performed miracles by himself, he didn’t steal from the rich to pay for a corrupt system of Obama care. This country got along just fine before 1969 (war on poverty) and 16 trillion dollars into it, we’re down a point!
You’re talking all this shit about “fairness”? Heres what you liberals don’t get: Life isn’t fair. Some people prosper while others live and die in poverty. Thats just the way it will always be. But now on to taxes: ever heard of the inalienable rights? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (you can go earn as much money as you like, as long as it doesn’t infringe on anyone else’s liberty). All you say though is “the rich should pay more” well how much? A man living in New York city who starts a small business that becomes a huge success might take home 1,000,000 a year. But between city, country, state, and federal taxes he might only take home about 550,000. Yet he should still pay more to such a wasteful government (16 dollar muffins, anyone). The problem isn’t that the government isn’t getting enough money, they take in a massive amount. Its the fact that so much of it goes to waste and it is simply far to big. Back to “fairness” though. If you really wanna institute fairness, a flat tax is the way to go. We’re all in this together right? 10, 15, 20 percent? Lets just put it at 15% for everyone on the federal level. 3 page long tax code, no loopholes or exemptions except the basic ones. On that note, if you are filthy rich and make a billion dollars, then you pay 150 million to the federal government. If you’re filthy poor, and take in 10,000, then you pay 1,500 to the feds. (they probably already give you subsidies already though). Middle class family pulls in 100,000, then they pay 15,000. This is the only real fair way in a republic. Now this isn’t a democracy, which is mob rule. You can’t (legally) vote to take inalienable rights or personal liberties guaranteed by the constitution away from a certain group of people, no matter how much you envy them. Right now, the one percenters contribute 40 percent of all taxes paid. This isn’t “fair”? How about we simplify the tax code and really make it fair with a flat tax.

On a side note, i’d like to point out that raising revenue and raising the taxes are 2 very different things. Reagan infamously proved that when you lower tax rates, your revenue does go up, and the revenue was doubled by the time he left office. Now if you’re looking for fairness and everyone to be equal and all that bs, then sure campaign to raise the taxes on the rich. But if you want the Feds to have more money and the economy to grow, you should probably cut taxes/get a flatter tax while taking out regulation (the secret tax).

You’re right to be sick of the bickering between the left and the right.  That’s all part of the plan to distract the common folk from facing the real issue of our day:  the takeover by the Corporation of ordinary people’s freedom.  People can’t help but go after the bait of “abortion, birth control, contraception, zenophobia, gay rights and hatred of anything that is perceived as “the other”.  People like Bill O’Reilly, Hannity, Coulter, Beck et al are just very, very well paid shills for Corporate America who is successfully taking away all our rights.  At this moment, all women’s right’s are being assaulted because they are an easy target and women, until very recently, have bent over and pulled down their pants.  They should be marching in the streets as State legislatures pass bills to legalize their mechanical rape.  When I was young, it was considered a positive attribute to be considered smart and intellectual.  We wanted our leaders to be the best and the brightest. Now there is a rampant virus of anti-intellectuallsm spreding across the Country and the main criteria for a vote is:  Is he a good Christian.  Sarah Palin is beloved because she represents the stupid, ignorant people in the Country who can barely read and want one of their own to be in charge.  Of course, its the stupid, uneducated people who think that if they elect someone who is stupid and uneducated, that that person will feel their pain and help them out.  No, stupid, they will just steal your money, your freedom and place you into a modern day serfdom.  The uneducated don’t realize how recently the modern day serfdom existed in the United States.  The common man worked for peanuts at a Corporate work site.  He had to buy all his food from the Corporation, he had no bargaining power for wages and if he spoke up, he was beaten up by Pinkerton agents.  Afro-Americans were lynched for being a different color.  Do you think Sarah Palin would give a damn about you if she were President?  How naive can you be?

Well, I guess Jonathan must eat Fox News for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  So Jonathan, you don’t like entitlements.  Does that mean you’ll not apply for your Social Security Benefits or for Medicare?  Or maybe you’d like to repeal ObamaCare so that your wife or child can be denied medical insurance because they had a pre-existing condition or denied coverage because their bill is too high or maybe you’d rather go bankrupt if you should get cancer and run up medical bills of hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Oh, and also, I guess you forgot that George Bush and his Republican cronies lied to the American people and got us into a war that cost us 2 trillion dollars and at the same time gave tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% and ran up the deficit by 8 trillion dollars so that we would be driven into the worst economic crisis in our history.  Oh, yeah, let’s forget about that and turn the page and elect another set of Republican dupes who want to set us back to 2008.  It’s truly amazing to me that the very people who got the most screwed by the people who screwed them want to re-elect them to screw us again.  Anybody who makes less than $250,000 and votes for a Republican is out of their mind and deserves the fate for which they are voting.  But, just think what a wonderful abortion free, contraception free, abstinence loving, public education destroyed, no first amendment right, Christian nation we will have. Yeah, let’s get on board with Rick Santorum and send the Supreme Court to Guam and get a bunch of real Judges in charge who will legitimize all the stripping of our Constitutional rights.  By the way, Jonathan, you’ll be begging for the EPA to help you out when you wake up one morning and find your water from your tap can be set on fire because Dick Cheney allowed fracking to be unregulated.  When you, your family and neighbors have to truck in water from WalMart because the water table has been contaminated and you all suffer from headaches, nausea and stomach cramps, maybe government regulations won’t look like a Communist plot.

  • Rainmanash

Why don’t you stop wasting time making fun of Bill O’Reilly and go do something because you are so mad. He voiced his opinion and now he is being shot down. You want me to make fun of YOU for your opinions? I love watching Bill O’Reilly because he is bold enough to speak the truth and he will ignore your pinheaded comments. I completely agree with Bill that USA started as a Christian nation, if we take God out, what will we be? Angry and violent.

  • Dan

When you increase tax for the rich they just move their money elsewhere. Increasing tax for the rich and decreasing it for the poor seems like a wonderful idea but the truth is there are other options around the world where you have less tax like Dubai for instance. 0 tax in dubai. They still manage to have a great infrastructure. 92% of the population in Dubai not UAE  are foreigners. It has particularly attracted British investors and because of people like these investors Dubai’s recovery from the crisis is much much faster than Europe or the USA despite the fact that they have tons of debt and no oil. I think everyone in the republican party is an idiot except Ron Paul.

  • BritPirate

No, most polls already suggest you are angry and violent. More secular nations, like Norway and Sweden and Denmark, who have state religions BUT less populous believing in them (Norway around 80% atheist), and they have really low crime rates, AND they have lots of guns do to national service and also being populations that enjoy hunting. America has gone down the wrong path and should stick to the secularist idea it was based on. Any politician can have any religious belief BUT that belief should not be what they base their decisions on. If it is, we have a problem, especially if they are hard liners of any religion that belief crazy things.
