Books Carved Into Amazing Sculptures

A better way to destroy a book than burning it, artist Guy Laramee makes extremely impressive sculptures out of books. Amplifying the impressiveness, Laramee not only sculpts the books, but tends to make one sculpture out of multiple books stacked or lined up together in one arrangement or another. Generally imitating some type of landscape, each piece is extremely detailed, and mighty impressive, not only showing off intricate terrain, but employing lighting effects from outside sources. Head beyond the break to check out more of Laramee’s unique book art.

Even more neat book sculptures over here.

The fact that paper isn’t easily carvable would drive me crazy trying to get it right. I can feel my stomach knotting up just thinking about it.

I really hope those aren’t decent books being destroyed… Hopefully they’re just a bunch of bibles left by the Gideons or some other worthless modern Christian texts that have been mass produced.

Yeah!  Or science books with last years disproved theories!  Hummpf

I bet he used a CAD 3d cutter. I have a friend who converts satellite data into CAD instructions and cuts/carves topos that look a lot like these. Love books as the raw material..

  • You mean smarmy?

Sure.  If there was ever a book written by a religious person that removed itself from that “stupid old disproved bible”, then you’d have a point there.

Luckily scientists do update their books.  Religious zealots… nope, not so much.  They just keep hangin’ on.

People are funny about books … as a librarian I used to run a book sale at our library.  People wouldn’t pay 5 cents for a book, but if you threw them in the dumpster they’d jump in to “save” the same books they had already judged weren’t worth a nickel. Getting rid of books is vital to having a decent collection … they get thrown out all of the time … some books (actually, a lot of them) are crap. A sculpture is much better than just tossing them …
