Borderlands 2 Update Outs Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty as First DLC Pack

Everyone knew that the Mechromancer DLC for Borderlands 2 was coming. The fifth class had been teased long before the game actually released. The DLC actually going live yesterday, however, was not something that was expected. The fact that there’s a new class for Borderlands 2 isn’t even the juicy part, though. The update included references to something called Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty — which sounds an awful lot like more DLC.

Shacknews explains:

Today’s DLC update to Borderlands 2 included a little something extra: hints at the first major expansion for Gearbox’s shooter. PS3 players can download a title update and see brand new trophies for the game’s upcoming add-on, entitled Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty.

Three achievements are attached to this DLC. Gadabout (Bronze) has you discovering “all named locations in Oasis and the surrounding Pirate’s Booty areas,” suggesting the upcoming add-on introduces a brand new area for players to romp through.

These are typically the kind of updates that companies like Gearbox Software push to provide support for upcoming content. They’re not really meant to be seen, or marked live, yet they inevitably are. That said, DLC for the original Borderlands was stellar so more of that is always welcome.
