Can Plants Think? AsapSCIENCE Makes a Surprisingly Compelling Argument

Have fun with your conflicted feelings, vegetarians.

Some people don’t eat meat, because they don’t like the idea of killing and eating an intelligent creature. (*raises hand*) So this video by AsapSCIENCE that makes a case for plants having a certain level of thought might give some people weird feelings about their salad. So, how do plants think?

The video gives examples of how plants can respond to stimulus, and even shows how plants can “learn,” but I’m not exactly convinced that I should give up eating vegetables any time soon.

If you want to learn more about why plants are amazing, the folks behind AsapSCIENCE just launched a new channel called AsapTHOUGHT, where they talk about some amazing facts they learned while researching the AsapSCIENCE video. Unlike the whiteboard drawings we’re used to, it’s a little strange to see words coming out of Mitchell Moffit’s actual face instead of just being the disembodied voice of a dry-erase marker.

Once you get past that, though, this video’s great, too.
