It had been rumored that Mr. Harmon was on the way out after the renewal considering he’d only had his contract renewed to the end of the third season. Now, the rumors have proven true.

SpaceX Mission to International Space Station Aborted at 0.5 Seconds Over Engine Trouble [Updated]

This post has been updated with information from a 6:30 AM NASA press conference.

Today’s 4:55 AM EDT launch of SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft atop their Falcon 9 rocket was scrubbed with only 0.5 seconds left on the countdown clock when the vehicle’s onboard computer detected that something was amiss. Though all nine engines on the rocket had ignited and flames has started to billow outward, the Falcon 9 stayed on the pad.

Verizon Wireless Introducing $30 Upgrade Fee

If Verizon is your service provider, upgrading your phone is about to get a little less exciting. Starting April 22nd, Verizon Wireless is implementing a $30 upgrade fee to cut your new-gadget joy with a little “aw man” sadness. Up until now, Verizon had been the only big four provider not to have an upgrade fee, but Verizon customers’ day in the sun — in that respect at least — is now over. Granted, it’s only 30 bucks, but on the other hand, it used to be zero bucks.

Faster-Than-Light Neutrino Being Chalked Up to a Loose Cable

Remember that faster-than-light neutrino that shook up the scientific community with the possibility, though slight, that the laws of physics as we know them many not apply the way we thought they did? Well, they probably do. ScienceInsider is now reporting that the FTL neutrino wasn’t the result of some crazy breach of physics as we know it. No, it’s much more likely that it was the result of a loose cable.

U.S. PSP Owners Will Not be Able to Bring Their UMD PSP Games to the PS Vita Using UMD Passport

Unfortunately, Sony has announced that it will not bring its UMD Passport program to the U.S., which means that U.S. PS Vita owners will not be able to bring their UMD PSP games to the upcoming handheld. The UMD Passport program allows owners to register their UMD PSP games via an application obtained from the PlayStation Store, which in turn allows them to purchase and download the digital version of the game for a reduced price.

Sorry Guys, the Firefly MMO Developer Closed Down

In news that might’ve been expected due to the lack of news regarding the developer or its products, Multiverse, the developer behind the Firefly MMO, has unfortunately closed down. Though they’ve raised over $7 million in funding throughout their lifetime, they were unable to raise enough to continue the journey forward. Though Multiverse created some brand-based games, for instantly recognizable companies such as McDonald’s and Coca-Cola, the Firefly MMO they’ve been working on will probably be most missed.

Fad Diet Drains Norway’s Butter Supply, Paula Deen Nowhere in Sight

If you enjoy hot buttered toast, buttered pancakes, or my homemade macaroni and cheese (the recipe for which calls for a stick of butter), you’d do well to stay out of Norway. The Nordic nation is currently bereft of butter, a result of a wet summer that hampered dairy production, but also because of a high-fat low-carb fad diet. That’s right, folks: In order to lose weight, Norway ate all the butter in the country.

GamePro Magazine and Website Shutting Down

Sad day for gaming and print publishing in general, as parent company IDG decided to shut down venerable gaming rag GamePro and its corresponding website. Though an issue of GamePro was many gamer’s first gaming publication — including mine, specifically the January 1995 issue shown to the left — IDG cites not pulling in enough ad revenue as the reason for shuttering the magazine and website. The November issue of GamePro will be its last, and starting December 5, GamePro.com will point to PCWorld.com.

Sony Lowers Share Limit for PlayStation Network Content

With digital games and downloadable content rising to the forefront, and with piracy always being on the cutting edge of technology, one would’ve easily assumed that the prominent purveyors of downloadable content — Apple, Microsoft, Sony, to name a few — would’ve gotten fairly uptight about protecting said content from being shareable. However, a widely-known, rarely discussed practice Sony has had with their PlayStation Network downloadable content was that one person could buy something, then share it freely with four other people. It wasn’t a weird workaround, it was an official policy that Sony fully supported, and sometimes explained in game manuals or even on the backs of game boxes. On November 18, however, the practice is going to shift from five shares, to two.

Adult Swim iOS App Ditches Much-Loved Free Streams

Earlier this year, Adult Swim released a nifty iOS app that let users stream Adult Swim shows on their devices for free. Now, the functionality has been ripped out and streams are reserved for cable subscribers only, something no one is particularly happy about. The issue isn’t so much about the lack of streaming shows but rather the events that lead up to this point.

First off all, Adult Swim used to stream its shows for free and not for a week or two or anything, but a matter of months. That being the case, the removal of the functionality seems like little more than a cruel ending to an awesome feature that has now been retconned into a tease. Secondly, it seems that Cartoon Network (or Adult Swim, whoever is really in control) are attempting to spin this change as a feature, promoting the fact that you can now stream shows if you’re a cable subscriber, conveniently failing to mention that you used to be able to do that even if you weren’t.
