Siri Says That the Microsoft-Powered Nokia Lumia 900 is the Best Smartphone

Though it was designed for functionality, Apple’s voice assistant Siri has proved most fascinating as a sounding board for mundane questions. The most recent revelation is that, according to Siri, the best smartphone on the market is the Nokia Lumia 900. A phone notable in this context for being the total antithesis of an iPhone in that it is not made by Apple and runs Microsoft’s mobile OS.

Kindle Fire Accounts for 54.4% U.S. Android Tablets, All Others Under 10%

We’ve written about how the 2011 gift-giving holiday season was something of a sea change for tablets and eBooks, but a new bit of research from comScore concluded that it was more one sided than you might have thought. According to them, of all the Android-powered tablets in the U.S., 54.4% of them are Kindle Fires. Though great for Amazon, that could be a problem for Google.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings Blasts Comcast Data Caps in Facebook Rant

In a recent Facebook post from Reed Hastings, the CEO of Netflix, we get a bit of intimate view into the life of the man who brings great movies and TV into our homes for a reasonable price. For instance, we learn that he has an Xbox, and is (not surprisingly) a big fan of streaming video. We also find out that he’s really angry at Comcast for how they count data towards his pre-set limit, accusing the Internet Service Provider of being anti-net neutrality.

Fox News Anchor Alisyn Camerota Can’t Use Siri, Probably Should Have Read the Manual

When the iPhone 4S was unveiled last year, some were disappointed that it wasn’t a more radical overhaul of the iPhone 4 design. At the time, it seemed that Apple foresaw this, and really played up the importance of the voice-activated digital assistant Siri that came with the phone. Now, Siri, which is still in Beta, is known for being a bit problematic which has apparently led to two class-action lawsuits against Apple for false advertising but there hasn’t been a more cringe-worthy on-screen use of Siri that can top today’s appearance on Fox News.

Salmon Take to the Streets [Video]

It’s been a rough few days in the Pacific Northwest, as these salmon attempting to cross the flooded Skokomish Valley Road in Washington state. High wind and heavy rains apparently washed the fish out of their home in a nearby river, and they seem pretty determined to get back there. It’s common knowledge that salmon will swim upstream and past incredible obstacles to mate, but it’s good to see that they’re applying that same determination toward their self preservation as well.

The Diabolical Diagram of Movie Monsters [Infographic]

When it comes to amazing taxonomies and niche evolution, nothing has yet surpassed the creative minds in Hollywood. Behold, the Diabolical Diagram of Movie Monsters, from the phylum-obsessed minds at Pop Chart Labs. Forget Darwin and his finches of varying beak size, we’ve got graboids, “sexual predator salmon,” at least two different kinds of shark-octopus hybrids, and five different classifications of zombies.

My words will not do it justice. See it for yourself.

Just Juggling Two Rubik’s Cubes While Solving a Third, Nothing Much [Video]

David Calvo is something of a Rubik’s Cube master. From solving two cubes simultaneously, one in each hand, to solving a cube blindfolded, he’s done it all. Well, most of it. That being the case, it looks like he’s started to work juggling into his repitoire, giving him the most impressively useless “other skills” section of any résumé in history. Of course, knowing the guy’s background, it was probably harder for him to get a hang of the one-handed juggling than anything else, but it is still impossible not to be impressed. What’s next? Who knows, but I am excited to find out.
