The President’s draft of NASA’s budget was released this morning, with cuts to some of the administration’s deep space exploration plans to Mars and the outer planets. The cuts come as Washington faces one of the most economically difficult times in recent memory, which have hit NASA particularly hard leaving the agency with the smallest budget in four years. Thankfully, it’s not all bad news.

Tumblr has been a surprise hit blogging service, giving users the ability to easily share pictures and pithy posts inside their ecosystem. That changed today when Tumblr announced new “highlighted posts,” which for a small fee aim to draw user’s attention.

Etsy seller Barry Shields has constructed this tasteful Star Trek Enterprise coffee table and put it up for sale, for the low (high) price of $3,100. The table, constructed in the likeness of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-C, is made from ash, poplar, and cherry wood, and took Shields one month to build. The glass that makes the tabletop was cut to make it look as if the ship is in motion, and the base of table is made to look as if the ship is in orbit over a planet. The table has a poly finish coat for protection, and the glass dimensions measure in at 34″ x 54″ x 17″ tall. There have been rumblings of Mark Zuckerberg making Facebook a publicly traded company for some time, but new information seems to point toward the possibility of a whopping $100 billion initial public offering (IPO) valuation. Such a valuation could raise huge amounts of money for the company, founded barely seven years ago when Zuckerberg was at Harvard. Those events have already been immortalized in film, and Facebook’s continuing struggles with privacy are the stuff of Internet legend, but a massive IPO would almost certainly open a new chapter for the social networking giant.
