Talented Quadcopters Play The James Bond Theme [Video]

The James Bond theme is pretty well iconic, so it’s not surprising that it’s been subjected to nose flute covers, or mashed up in a video of all 22 James Bond film openings. Now the iconic song has hit another theme song milestone; it’s been played by an army of quadcopters. This quadcopter symphony, performing the piece at the TED2012 Conference in California is quite good, and as amusing to watch as they are to hear. Unfortunately there is not, however, and army of humans with remote controls sitting in front of a conductor. This is all preprogrammed. None the less, it sure is noteworth accomplishment in, uh, music copter-sition.

Mario Opera Makes a Classic More Classy [Video]

There is a Spider-Man musical, so why not a Mario opera, right? Get ready for a big surprise: The Mario opera is actually really good. Okay, so it might be a stretch to call this one song in a stereotypical opera style — and a stereotypical Italian accent — an “opera,” but it’s not a stretch to call it awesome. The song is courtesy of legolambs, a YouTube channel devoted to pop culture musicals and run by Jon and Al Kaplan. Check it out. It’s a terrific way to spend 2:49 minutes and justify calling a huge part of your childhood “high culture.”

Music Made From iPhone Sounds Is Really Catchy

You tend to get very accustomed to the sounds your phone makes. Sometimes you develop comforting memories of an old ringtone or grow to hate the sound you use for an alarm. YouTube user  decided to take things a step further by actually using his iPhone’s sounds to arrange a piece of music, and a really good one at that. All the sounds aren’t completely unaltered, he did some pitch shifting, cutting, transforming, and added some reverb, but considering he was only working with 3 sounds bites — email sent, email received, and that “do-do-dah” one — I think those are perfectly legitimate liberties to take. Give it a listen, you’ll be surprised how catchy it is.

BlackBerry Messenger Music Service Goes Beta

In a world were there are already many different music service options, there is now one more: BlackBerry Messenger Music. In hopes of working its way into the market (presumably), BBM Music seems to be tackling the subject from a somewhat different angle, however. BBM Music, currently in closed beta, goes for a $5 per month subscription. For that price you get to build a music profile of 50 songs, 25 of which you can swap out for new ones each month. Sound a little limiting? Well, that’s because they are trying their best not to directly compete with streaming giants like Spotify.

The focus of BBM Music, it seems, will be a social one. In addition to your personal collection of songs, you can then share your collection with friends and your friends can share with you. If you find a song you like, you can then add it to your library. On top of that, you can make playlists that include your songs and the songs of your friends, and then share those. Share, share, share.

Da Da Dadada Da Da Da [Video]

We’re not sure what’s being said in this video, but we’re pretty sure these two are discussing the secrets of the universe and/or which Sesame Street muppet is the best.

If you’re still curious about babbling twins, take a look at the Harvard Twin Study, and Radiolab has an excellent show on the power of words. All a bit more heady, though equally fascinating, as all this da-da-da-da-da-ing.
