Jet Set Radio to Come to XBLA and PSN? Yes Please

As a die-hard Sega fan who had a Dreamcast and of all its games, pretty much the only one I ever have the urge to go back and play regularly is Jet Set Radio (or Jet Grind Radio, as it’s blasphemously called here in the states). With its awesome art style, off-beat subject matter and approach, and its incredible, incredible soundtrack, Jet Set Radio is probably one of the most under-appreciated franchises ever, which is why its so heartening to learn that it’s coming to XBLA and PSN.

Watch Michael Showalter Say There Will Definitely be a Wet Hot American Summer Sequel [Video]

In response to the question of whether or not there will be a Wet Hot American Summer sequel, Michael Showalter, former cast member of the stellar The State (which I will mention every single chance I get for the rest of my life), said “Absolutely, yes. One-hundred precent, yes.” He also went on to say that the whole cast is getting in on it.

Double Fine Raises Over Half a Million on Kickstarter for Adventure Game Project

Before Psychonauts, Tim Schafer was busy making the world a better place through point-and-click adventure games, a genre that has thinned out as the video game industry has continued. You may have heard of some of his finest work: The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, and Grim Fandango. His best work is Psychonauts, though, a platformer-adventure hybrid, and just the other day, the creator of Minecraft, Notch, said he’d fund the development of a sequel. Aside from being in the middle of “lovely talks” with Notch about funding the sequel to one of the best video games ever made, Double Fine put up a fundraiser on Kickstarter with a goal of $400,000 in order to help fund a new adventure game. Seeing as how Tim Schafer is a legendary adventure game maker, the $400,00 goal was reached in about eight hours after the fundraiser was published. At the moment of this writing, the pledged funds are at $583,571 and climbing every time the refresh button is hit.

Notch Offers to Fund Psychonauts 2 After Tim Schafer Reveals No One Wanted To

Tim Schafer’s Psychonauts is one of the best video games ever made. It’s that simple. It has its flaws, sure, but everything has flaws, and the ones in Psychonauts are so minute that they’re extremely easy to overlook. Similar to how good television gets canceled in season one or two, no one bought Psychonauts when it first released. After dropping in price over the years and releasing on other platforms (like Steam), Psychonauts started making money. Mastermind Tim Schafer never let the initial abysmal sales get to him (which would make sense, considering the critical acclaim the game continues to receive, even to this day) and revealed to Digital Spy the other day that he pitched a sequel to the game to publishers “several times,” but no one would bite. ”I’d love to do that game,” he said, “but I’d have to convince someone to just give me a few million dollars, that’s all.” In a perfect storm of beloved gaming icons, Notch got wind of Schafer’s statement, and tweeted that he’d fund the making of Psychonauts 2. Wat.

This is What a Wet Hot American Summer Cast Reunion Looks Like

Everyone’s favorite movie about summer camp featuring a large amount of the original cast of the brilliant The State, Wet Hot American Summer, recently had a cast reunion for SF Sketchfest 2012. Ten years after the film originally premiered at Sundance, the cast reunited at SF Sketchfest 2012 to perform what hey called a live radio play of the movie, which is fairly reminiscent of a reading. Not every single original cast member could make it — you’ll notice Bradley Cooper mysteriously absent from pictures — but the missing members were replaced by a bunch of other famous comedy people, including David Cross, Andy Richter, and a personal favorite, Joshua Malina.

Skyrim Monopoly Continues the Trend of Awesome Video Game Monopoly Adaptations

Producing themed Monopoly boards was always how a very, very old game that practically everyone has sitting in a closet or two managed to make money. Most people who would have the orignal version of the game also own some amusingly themed version — myself included; The Simpsons — but for the people who like less popular themes, or even themes too dissimilar to ever cross into Monopoly territory, the Internet and talented artists with a vision are here to save the day. This time, deviantART user oddeh (Alex Bennett) plunges Monopoly into the world of Skyrim, complete with coins instead of dollar bills.

Horrific Snowman Creations from Calvin and Hobbes [Video]

A staple of the much beloved comic strip series Calvin and Hobbes were the horrific snowmen built by the titular character. Those creations are faithfully remade in this tribute video by JimFrommeyer, and it’s an utter delight. Cleverly, the film’s creator only hints at the famed boy and tiger, and instead lets us dwell on this veritable snowman house of horrors.

Students Recreate Disney’s Recess Opening Sequence Shot-for-Shot

Disney’s Recess, that cartoon you first started watching in college because you were waiting for reruns of Boy Meets World to come on and you always turned on the television too early, is a show you probably found out was secretly not for kids. Dealing with somewhat, but not always hidden mature themes, and regularly having the plot of an episode be a retelling of some important event in history, Recess was better than the older crowd probably thought at a glance. Well, the Sheridan College Media Arts Class of 2013 sure realized the quality of the show, and recreated the opening sequence shot-for-shot. Feel free to compare and contrast the opening sequences on the always useful YouTube Doubler.
