Japan May Soon Get a Totally Sweet Neon Genesis Evangelion Android Phone

Though the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion went off the air over 16 years ago, the controversial series keeps coming back — most recently in a series of animated films called Rebuild of Evanglion. Now, in conjunction with Sharp, NTT, and DoCoMo comes a modified Android phone called the SH-06D NERV in conjunction with the upcoming Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo. And surprisingly, it looks pretty awesome.

Flexible E Ink Displays Now In Mass Production

E Ink devices are about to get a lot more like paper. LG has just started mass production of the first flexible, plastic E Ink displays. The flexible E Ink displays have a resolution of 1024×768 and are 6 inches diagonal, much like the Kindle and Nook. Unlike the Kindle and Nook, these flexible displays are made primary out of plastic instead of glass laminate, allowing them to be flexible as well as 30% thinner, 50% lighter, and virtually impossible to shatter.

Sword & Sworcery EP Soundtrack Released on Vinyl, Casette Tape

In the world of iOS games, disposable thrills are the norm. Games like Tiny Wings and Angry Birds are fun, but beyond killing some time, they don’t really stick with you. The creative group Superbrothers sought to change that with their Sword & Sworcery EP, creating a game built upon haunting imagery and a strange, otherworldly soundtrack. Now, that soundtrack can be yours on handsome, sturdy 180 gram vinyl or on a far more portable cassette tape. Oh, and digital download as well — but who still uses MP3s anymore.

Custom Fallout Vault Dweller Sneakers Have Dual, Built-In iPod Touches

For any of you out there looking for the dopest of kicks, I’ve got good news; we’ve found them. These Fallout themed shoes, called Vault Dweller Dunks are a one-of-a-kind custom joint by shoe-artists (shartists?) Jacob Patterson and Emmanuelabor. The most noteworthy quality of these sneaks, besides paying homage to what might be one of the best video games series of all time, is that they include two jailbroken iPod Touches as the tongues, each using a Pip-Boy theme because you’ve got to have symmetry, right?

Nausicaä LEGO Gunship Needs to Become Purchasable

Possibly one of the most under appreciated comics of all time is Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Sure, the movie is pretty good, but Miyazaki’s manga is an enormous, sprawling epic that is full to the brim with religious conflict, environmentalism, and really, really cool vehicles. One of the most iconic is, without a doubt, the Valley Gusnship which Jon Hall has brilliantly created in LEGO form. He somehow managed to keep Miyazaki’s weirdly organic design, and create a model that looks surprisingly buildable. LEGO corporate, please make this a reality; please just take my money. See more pictures, after the break.

Roccat Power Grid Makes Smartphones a PC Gamer’s Best Friend

When it comes to console games, control schemes tend to be streamlined and efficient. After all, there are only so many things you can do with thumbsticks, triggers, and a handful of buttons. PC games, on the other hand, have the freedom to go completely buck-wild; you have a whole keyboard to deal with. As a Mechwarrior fan, I have to say I can appreciate the PC approach and can always use moar buttonz. Roccat knows where people like me are coming from, which is why they’re working on the Power Grid app that can make your smartphone into a hyper-competent PC gaming sidekick.

Get Ready To Take A Vacation In SimCity [Trailer]

It’s been almost 10 years since the last time you had the change to build your own thriving, or perhaps less-than-thriving city in a new verison of the premier city-sim, SimCity. Now, after that cool-off period, the time has come to rediscover the thrill of, uh, taxes! And finance! And, like, zoning laws! You can expect SimCity 5(000?) to look really pretty and have more granularity (and llamas!) than any previous entry in the series, but don’t be fooled, the images in the trailer are not “representative of actual gameplay.” Nonetheless, I’m sure it’ll be great and I’m glad to see some new life injected into this wonderful little genre that hasn’t gotten much love lately.

These Insect-Based Foods Actually Look Pretty Good

See those sushi-like cubes on that stylish tray? They’re made of bugs: A mix of honey caterpillar croquettes and other processed insect treats. They are the products of Ento, a design by a group of U.K. students aimed at convincing the average shopper to add some insects into their diet. Now, you might think that eating insects is a measure of last resort, but there are some pretty compelling reasons why bugs should probably be on your dinner table.

Official Assassin’s Creed 3 Trailer Showcases Awesome Tomahawk-Head Interface [Video]

Assassin’s Creed 3, first rumored and now confirmed to be set during the American Revolution, has its first official trailer and there is just as much tomahawk-to-face action as you would hope. Along with the Redcoat carnage, the trailer shows our Assassin Ratohnaké:ton (who is of Native American and English descent) racing through the snowy woodland, illustrating the potential of the series’ first foray into the forest. The game is slated for an October 30th release and promises, if nothing else, to give the Assassin’s Creed franchise a much needed change of scenery. Also: tomahawks.

Octodad Gets a Sequel: Octodad: Dadliest Catch

One of the funniest games you never played, Octodad, is getting a sequel, hilariously titled Octodad: Dadliest Catch. For the uninitiated, Octodad is a game where you play as an octopus that is pretending to be a dad and husband. The game, rather than some simple comedy platformer or point-and-click adventure, is actually focused on how difficult it would be to be an octopus stuffed into human clothes, walking around as such, and performing menial human tasks. It is so hard to sweep the floor — it is the best game. This time around, the titular dadopus continues to attempt to hide his secret from his family, and will be visiting the aquarium. As one can see from the adorable screenshot above, there might be a little homesickness in those weary, cephalopod eyes. See the hilarious trailer after the break.
