The Facebook IPO by the Numbers [Infographic]

The Facebook IPO keeps rumbling toward completion while Facebook scrambles to monetize anything and everything as fast as it can. The announcement of the App Center and the testing of highlighted posts are only the beginning of what we can expect from Facebook as a public company, but what about where it is at right now? Not a bad place. Mark Zuckerberg makes a hefty $66.94 per second and is heading for a valuation larger than Boeing or even Starbucks. Does it deserve that? We’ll find out soon. In the meantime, you can study up on all the interesting facts and figures with this infographic from MBA Online and come to your own conclusion. Check it out after the jump.

You know what's cooler than 1 billion dollars? Doesn't really matter. 1 billion dollars is pretty much cool enough.

You Are Worth More Dead Than Alive [Infographic]

When applying to jobs, you’ll generally give a quote of what you think your services are worth. However, when you’re all used up from a lifetime of that job, someone else may pay good money for you. Not your services, mind you, but the less used up parts of your body. You know, like your liver or coronary artery. The black market is something you probably don’t want to ever become involved with, but now if you do and also happen to read this infographic provided by Medical Transcription, you’ll know around how much your shoulder is worth.

At least your bits will be put to use if you're not using them...

The True Cost of an iPhone [Infographic]

When the newest iPhone comes out and your saliva glands start acting up, you tend to be grounded by one particular detail: Price. iPhones, while not absurdly expensive, still cost a relatively large chunk of change, especially if your old phone is working troublingly fine so that your only excuse for the expense is to keep up with the proverbial Joneses. But beyond all that, there’s a bigger cost, a social cost, one that’s less directly painful to you, but arguably much bigger in the long run. If you’re curious about what that might be — and are maybe looking for a way to guilt yourself into skipping a generation —  check out this interactive infographic from MBA Online. After all, people have to make these iPhones, and make them out of stuff, so who are they and what is that stuff and how much does it cost. Check out the graphic after the break to find out.

Being social conscious is fun when there are animations! Really!

The Neurology of Gaming [Infographic]

Do you like video games? Do you like having a brain that can do stuff? Then this infographic is just for you! As it turns out, gaming has an effect on your brain, and it’s not “turning it into mush.” As I am sure many of you know first hand, gaming generates happiness in awesomeness lobe and then moves it to your soul, or at least that’s what it feels like. This infographic from Online Universities goes a little deeper into the subject and deals with a few of the other things involved in addition to the synthesis of pure happiness. Some of the points about violent gaming could probably use a little more context in my opinion, but it’s still interesting. Take a look.

Seriously, they're not turning your brains to mush.

The Internet Quantified [Infographic]

The Internet is a big place. There are a lot of tubes, so to speak. The amount of data that is created, shared, and consumed on the internet is practically impossible to conceive of in a physical format and would be literally impossible to deal with that way. That said, how much data really is thrown around? That’s what this infographic from MBA Online attempts to tackle, and the results are staggering. 98 years of video? 770 magazines worth of blog posts? Each and every day? Now it’s up to you to decide whether this is a triumph of the digital age or an embarrassingly large amount of digital trash, but one thing is for sure: It’s a lot and I’m glad we don’t have to try and cram it all on a shelf somewhere.

The number of words shortened to a single letter is unwise to fathom.

Work is Murder, And Not Just For Hitmen [Infographic]

Ever have a late night, come home and think “work sucks?” I know. Sometimes it feels like work is just killing you, and it might actually be, and not just your soul either. Granted, I have no problems whatsoever because I work in a fairly-land utopia where the unicorns are both free and plentiful. You, on the other hand, may work in a real workplace and, as this infographic from Online University suggests, it might be killing you. Between all the sitting down, the not moving, and the stress, your job might be working you to death. Of course, being unemployed won’t help you live forever either, so you might as well have someone pay you to march — or sit — toward your inevitable demise.

Happy Friday!!!

20 Crimes Committed and Solved on Facebook [Infographic]

You know something is finally working its way into a culture when it starts being involved in crimes, and that’s where we’re getting with Facebook. It used to just be a way for college kids to share goofy pictures of each other and brag about how cool they are since they’re drinking alcohol now, but it’s come a long, long way since then, for better or worse. People have become so comfortable with Facebook that they’ve let slip all kinds of information that have led to arrests for everything from vandalism to murder. And, of course, people are doing illegal things on Facebook too. This infographic by Criminal Justice Degrees Guide delves into 20 particularly notable cases of Facebook-related crime. Check it out after the jump.

Being an idiot on Facebook is still technically legal. For now.

The 2012 Oscar Winners, as Predicted by Twitter [Infographic]

With the Oscars going down tonight, there is rampant speculation about who is going to walk away with which electroplated gold statue. While the decision making process inside the Academy is notoriously wonky, the folks over at Flowtown have put together an infographic showing the Twitter buzz around some of the top Oscar contenders. Their handsome infographic compares the “winners” on Twitter with other prognosticatory sources, which offers surprising insights into what the Internet is saying about these flicks. We’ll have to wait until tonight to see if Twitter becomes the next bellwether for the Oscars.

And Twitter says that award goes to...

Full Steam Ahead, What Valve is Doing Right With Steam [Infographic]

When you’re a content creator or a content provider, the battle against piracy really comes down to one thing: Competing against free. Naturally, this is a difficult thing to do, but it’s not impossible. It might actually be easier than cramming more DRM and IP law down everyone’s throats. Need a proof-of-concept? Just look at Steam, whose intiuitive and user-friendly platform has made buying games an absolute joy. This infographic by Video Game Design School does a blow-by-blow breakdown of exactly how well Steam is doing and how they’re pulling it off. Take notes.

Notes 1-Infinity: Steam Sales.

The 22-Year Trip Down Into Lake Vostok, Visualized

For 15 million years, Lake Vostok remained untouched, buried 3,768 meters beneath Antarctica. Though the 22-year drilling journey finally reached the subglacial lake, scientists still have to wait until 2013-2014 to extract samples of unfrozen lake water, and have to wait until the end of this year to extract frozen samples. The team plans to explore the lake in 2013-2014 using cameras, probes, and water samplers. The researchers will also be looking for life, and could potentially find specially adapted microorganisms living within the subglacial lake. To better understand the great depth the drilling traveled, as well as what layers of ice the drilling passed through, the journey to the unfrozen subglacial waters of Lake Vostok has been tastefully visualized after the break.
