These Are The Happiest Cows You Will Ever See [Video]

You may have been happy that this winter has been particularly mild, but I challenge you to be happier than these cows. Just released from their winter housing for a spring and summer of grazing in the fields, these cows are absolutely stoked. I’ve been tempted to rub my face on the ground in celebration of the changing seasons, but I’ve never actually done it. These cows are making me reconsider.

Swedish Man Survived Being Trapped in Car For Months, Hibernated “Like a Bear”

There’s a pretty incredible story floating around the Internet today about a 45 year-old Swedish man who was rescued from his car after apparently being trapped inside without food for months. Some snowmobilers came across the vehicle buried in snow on a forest path, not far from the northern city of Umea. His rescuers were surprised to find someone inside, wrapped in a sleeping bag, and even more surprised when the man managed to gasp out that he’d been in the car since December 19th.

Sony Hiked Up the Price of Whitney Houston’s Music Less Than an Hour After Her Death

In this age of rampant social media, death has gotten a bit complicated, especially for celebrities. Sometimes you’re reported dead before your time, and if you have passed, it’s only a matter of time — 30 seconds or so — before widespread, uncontained discussion begins. When it came to light this weekend that Whitney Houston had died, the predictable Twitter-splosion occurred, part an parcel with off-color jokes and heart-felt condolences, but something more calculatedly irreverent may have been bubbling up behind the scenes. Some are accusing Sony of initiating a price hike on one of Houston’s albums presumably in order to capitalize on the “free” publicity.

Anonymous Claims to Have Taken Down the CIA’s Website

So the CIA’s website is definitely down right now, and Anonymous is claiming responsibility. Given their previous track record, it’s pretty safe to assume that this is exactly what it looks like. During they’re last little frenzy after the MegaUpload takedown, Anonymous claimed to have taken down a slew of other high profile targets including the DOJ, MPAA, RIAA, and FBI websites, an attack on the CIA homepage would round out that list nicely. Granted, it’s just a DDOS attack, not a more serious breach of security like a leaked phone call or anything, but it’s still got to sting a bit if you’re the CIA.

Social Media Advice From a Little Nephew

About a month ago, Chacho Puebla published photographs of his great-aunt dispensing social media advice via placard. Calling it “Grandmother Tips,” Puebla said that in the rough and tumble world of online social interactions these were the things he wished his grandmother had told him growing up. By and large, it was good albeit somewhat cynical advice for the technological age. As a sort of counter point to this comes Market Covert with his Techy Little Nephew Tips, which is more optimistic in its outlook. While its still unclear whether, like Puebla, the advice is actually from Covert with his nephew as the messenger, it’s an interesting little project. Which is the right way to go, Internet: Grandmother or Nephew? See more pictures, after the break.

Supreme Court Rules Congress Can Remove Works From Public Domain

While the majority of the Internet rambled on and on about SOPA and PIPA yesterday (Geekosystem included), an interestingly related piece of legislation slipped through in the background. Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled that Congress has the authority to remove works from the public domain. That is to say that the public domain is not “territory that works may never exit,” contrary to common understanding.

MineCon Starts Today, Minecraft 1.0 Imminent

Like me, I’m sure you wish you were at MineCon in Las Vegas right now instead of sitting at work on a Friday, waiting for the official release of Minecraft 1.0. The event proper starts at 10 a.m. PST, but the real fun doesn’t get started until around 1 p.m. when Minecraft 1.0 is due to go live during Notch’s keynote speech. Later on today, at 4 p.m. there’s a Scrolls and Cobalt demo and there’s even more planned for tomorrow including the Mojang Developers’ Panel at 11:15 a.m., a Yogscast Panel at 1:30 p.m., and closing ceremonies of some sort at 5 p.m. I’m really not making things any better for either of us, am I?
