When I first saw this original iPhone commercial, I knew it was only a matter of time until someone fixed it. If you too were more than a little annoyed by that arrogant little teenager who thought that “Migraine Headache” was a good or remotely original band name and who seeks validation by making his phone call him “Rock God,” this one’s for you. There’s a little NSFW language at the end, but man, is it ever justified.

The venerable comedy show Saturday Night Live turned its satiric eye to the confusing, brand name and acronym laden world of cellular phone advertising with their satire of Verizon LTE ads last night. In it, a hapless customer endures a barrage of meaningless comparisons, buzzwords, and bewildering stats before reaching a rather inevitable conclusion. Oh, and even if you think you know what all those words meant, it’s far more confusing than you might think.

Dante Autullo was working on a ladder in his Orland Park garage when he lost control of a nail gun and accidentally smacked it against his head. He texted a photo of the small scratch on his scalp to his fiance Gail Glaenzer, and thought nothing more of it. He went about his business driving a plow truck for some eight hours, and even dropped off his kids for a play rehearsal. It wasn’t until waking up nauseous from a nap that he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and a three and a half inch nail was found lodged in his brain.

After watching the movie Stargate, Jerome Kelty, DIY builder extraordinaire, decided that he wanted one of the masks worn by the Horus Guards. Being an endeavoring designer, Kelty took to trying to make one for himself, and after several different designs, I think it’s fair to say he succeeded with flying colors. The mask is made mostly out of papier-mâché, cardstock, spackle, and spray foam, with a detailed paint-job thrown on top. The helmet can also move through the use of 5 servos and an Arduino, which let the helmet look around in a strikingly bird-like way. Video after the jump.

I bet these guys were really, really happy that they filmed throwing a trio of paper airplanes off the roof of a building. One fails immediately, the second makes a respectable landing, while the third spirals on to victory. You’ll have to see it to believe it.
