It’s true, the financial crisis has been tough on all of us. The world’s economic climate has found itself in troubling times—might I even say … dark … times? Now it seems even Darth Vader, master of the dark side of the Force, isn’t invulnerable to the volatile dips and dives of the market: Yesterday, the Sith Lord was lowered to robbing a bank on Long Island.

“Touchdown Jesus” Statue Destroyed by Lightning: Before and After Pics; Video

Touchdown Jesus, more properly known as King of Kings, was one of southwest Ohio’s best known — and biggest — landmarks: A fixture at the Solid Rock Church by Monroe, Ohio since it was completed in 2004, it had a 42-foot span between its arms and a 40-foot cross at its base. But Touchdown Jesus is no more: Last night, the statue was struck by lightning, leaving only a grim-looking metal skeleton behind.

Batman is Pregnant. And on the Moon. And Superman is Listening to his Unborn Child.

A tipster — who we’re guessing may have seen this on Reddit? — sends along this interesting fan picture accompanied only by the subject heading “for you” and the word “Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm” — Batman is pregnant. And on the moon. And Superman is listening to his unborn child kick while Batman smiles knowingly.

That about sums it up.

Carleton College Turns Observatory into Giant R2-D2

This is most commendable: Students at Minnesota’s Carleton College transformed their school’s Goodsell Observatory into a giant R2-D2, complete with bleeping and blooping. And the school seems to approve, posting some great pics on their Facebook page.

Carleton’s Goodsell Observatory gets turned into R2-D2 by an unknown group of enterprising students — complete with sound effects. All the “decorations” appear to have been draped or taped onto the dome; there was no defacing with spray paint, etc.

The Captain America Movie Costume In Words Only

There is a distinct progression in fan attention when a new superhero movie comes out. First it’s the writer and director, then the casting of the main lead, the casting of the villain, and, eventually, somewhere down the line, we get a look at the costume.

Normally, we wouldn’t get too excited until some pictorial evidence was offered for the internet to excrete masonry over, but JoBlo‘s incredibly detailed description of “one of the approved costume tests” for the new Captain America movie has got us interested.

That’s Not How it Works: CNN Thinks Google Earth “Blurred” Times Square After Bomb Scare

Last night there was a bomb scare in Times Square, New York, that was less a scare than an actual, you know, bomb. The “amateurish” car bomb was an SUV carrying three canisters of propane, ten gallons of gasoline, and some fireworks. While it’s a bit beyond our purview to cover the event itself (we’ll leave it to Mediaite), we did notice something funky on CNN.

Weekend CNN Newsroom anchor Don Lemon was alarmed that he was unable to get a clear picture of the Times Square area on Google Earth. After using blurred footage from Google Earth as an illustration of the tight security around the area, he asked his guest, Tom Fuentes, former FBI Assistant Director of International Relations, what this might mean.

His guest’s answer was not exactly… well. Informed.

The Green Lantern’s New Clothes

Warner Bros has made an odd announcement regarding a certain production feature of the new Green Lantern movie. They have warned fans not to expect to see any leaked photos of Ryan Reynold’s costume, even though filming began a month ago. Why?

Because there is no costume.

He-Man: the Whiskey, the Gin, and the Rum

Som Distilleries, an Indian exporter, manufacturer, and supplier of beer and spirits that presumably does not spend too much time worrying about such things as copyright, isn’t just known for making “Genius Rum” and “Super Master Whiskey“; they also bottle He-Man in whiskey, gin, and rum form.
