Facebook Co-Founder Eduardo Saverin Renounces U.S. Citizenship

Facebook Co-Founder Eduardo Saverin, who you may remember as “that laptop-freakout guy Andrew Garfield played in The Social Network,” is no longer a U.S. citizen. Instead, he has opted to be a citizen of Singapore exclusively. The publication of his name in the Federal register Quarterly Publication of Individuals Who Have Chosen to Repatriate indicates that he renounced his citizenship sometime before April 30th. Why? Probably taxes.

Trailer for Zombie Game Dead Island is Amazing, Traumatizing

This is a trailer for upcoming zombie game Dead Island, developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver, slated to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC sometime this year. My first response to this trailer was “…what?” Then when I found out this game is going to be a zombie-based first-person shooter, my response changed to “…why.” Note the deliberate period. Then I found out that the game is a sandbox zombie-based first-person shooter with four player drop in cooperative play that is heavily influenced by George A. Romero movies, and my response changed to “…well, at least this trailer happened.” The developers claim that we shouldn’t worry, and the game will be different from how the description makes it seem like it is going to end up. The trailer suggests a kind of Heavy Rain game with a zombie twist, but it’ll probably prove difficult to provide an emotional story when three other buds drop into co-op. My guess is that this trailer is more of a concept than anything that has to do with the game, other than the zombies. Hopefully I’m wrong about that. Head on past the break to be traumatized with a larger version of the trailer.

Guillermo del Toro’s Next Project: Alma

What with all the preparation for the Rally to Restore Sanity in my mind, it’s difficult to remember that Halloween, that most wonderful of holidays, is coming up just as quickly.  This beautifully creepy little short should serve as a nice reminder.

Written and directed by Rodrigo Blaas, Alma already won several awards in 2009.  It’s been thrust back into the limelight recently after the news that Guillermo del Toro will be producing a feature length adaptation.

It Begins: World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Closed Beta

Some time on Wednesday afternoon, Blizzard gave players hungry for any kind of update on the latest expansion for their online obsession (present company included) a big gift: the opening beta testing for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, and the lifting of the non-disclosure agreement that was binding all players of the alpha testing stage.

Now, we could probably go on for a while about the new features of the expansion, but any one who doesn’t play the game probably doesn’t care, and if you do, you should really be looking at others for your WoW news. So we’ll just try to provide something that will be interesting to players and non-players alike: the sound files for the new racial emotes of Goblins and Worgen.

Blizzard Reveals Female Worgen Models: My, What Big Eyes You Have!

Although Blizzard announced that the Worgen, a race of cursed lycanthropes, would be one of two new playable races in the upcoming World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion last august, we’ve only ever seen the werewolf models for male Worgen. That is, until now.

The Escapist is the lucky blog that’s been graced with the scoop; four pictures of lady Worgen dressed in each of the four armor categories in the game (plate is pictured above). All worgen will have two forms available to them: while out of combat they have the option of reverting to human.

Fangasm and more below.
