Apple Sells Out New iPad Pre-Orders, Shipping Date Slips

Yes, yes, we all know that the new iPad unveiling was as really big deal. However, it appears that it was a bigger deal than even Apple anticipated as the consumer electronics maker has completely sold out of its pre-order stock. Sorry Guys, Valve Shoots Down “Steam Box” Game Console Rumor

Not too long ago, word spread around the ole Internet that vaunted game developer Valve is working on a game console, dubbed the “Steam Box,” which would allow users to play Steam games (just PC games) on their television from a set-top box. Not the worst idea in the world, in that the console would appeal to gamers who would rather sit back on couch than hunch over a desk, as well as gamers who couldn’t exactly afford a top-of-the-line PC in order to play games, but could afford a single console. Unfortunately for current and would-be fans of Steam, Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi seems pretty adamant that this Steam Box isn’t happening — at least not anytime soon.

Blizzard Announces There Won’t be a BlizzCon in 2012

Sorry, legions upon legions of Blizzard fans, but Blizzard announced that there won’t be a BlizzCon in 2012. Don’t worry, though, BlizzCon isn’t gone forever, it’s just on hiatus for one year, and Blizzard is planning on holding BlizzCon again in 2013. The reasons Blizzard cites for putting the show on hold for a year are due to a “jam-packed schedule,” which focuses on getting Diablo III, the second third of StarCraft II, Hearts of the Swarm, and the panda-centric World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria, out to fans on time.

Gary Larson to the Internet: Please Create Your Own Anthropomorphic Comedy Scenarios

In a note published on Creator’s Syndicate, cartoonist Gary Larson is politely asking his fans to stop using images of “The Far Side” online. He writes:

These cartoons are my “children,” of sorts, and like a parent, I’m concerned about where they go at night without telling me. And, seeing them at someone’s web site is like getting the call at 2:00 a.m. that goes, “Uh, Dad, you’re not going to like this much, but guess where I am.”

While certainly not angry in his tone, maybe even a little reluctant to have to say something at all, it’s easy to see why Larson is finally warning people who use his work without authorization.

Why Anime is Doomed, Pt II: Cowboy Bebop Writer is Frustrated with Industry

At the Cultural Typhoon conference at Komazawa University this month, anime writer Dai Satō had ominous words to say during a round table discussion. Joined by film director Tomita Katsuya and music journalist Futasugi Shin to discuss “Living in the City: Hip Hop, Anime, Housing Projects,” Satō—whose esteemed oeuvre includes Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Wolf’s Rain, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex—believes anime will die out in Japan in a few decades, Otaku2 reports.

“No one wants to hear about NEET [the unemployed],” he said, expressing his frustrations with the Japanese anime industry. “They’d rather watch a group of high school girls in a band asking, ‘How do I play this note?’”

Apple Lying About iPhone 4 Signal Bars? Consumer Reports Tests Confirm Antenna Problem

The engineers at Consumer Reports have fiddled with the iPhone 4 and, agreeing that there is a reception problem, have decided not to recommend Apple‘s newest smartphone. As reported early by users, the signal would significantly decrease upon touching a spot on the phone’s lower left side, to the point of being nonexistent in areas with weak reception.

According to the report, lab tests were conducted with three iPhone 4 models purchased from separate retailers in the New York area in “the controlled environment of CU’s radio frequency (RF) isolation chamber.”
