Play Wolfenstein 3D In Your Browser, For Free

I wasn’t allowed to play Wolf 3D as a kid; I distinctly remember being scolded for doing so. When I found the illicit diskette years later in high school, however, I burned through that sucker like nothing. Now you can do the same, online, no archaic storage medium required! To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the game’s release, Bethesda, the current rightsholder, has published a browser-based version of the game, complete with the first 3 episodes.

New ISP To Make Customer Privacy Its Top Priority

In this world where online privacy — or more accurately the lack thereof — is becoming more and more of an issue for many, there is no lack of complaints, but a distinct lack of solutions. One man thinks he has the way to put an end to this. Nicholas Merrill wants to start an Internet service provider with one thing at the forefront of its policy: Respecting user privacy. By means both technological and policy related, Merrill’s in utero service would fight tooth and nail to keep its customers information from getting into the hands of anyone who doesn’t need to see it. With bills like CISPA on the horizon, he could stand to find quite a few customers.

Nick Lowe, Tim Heidecker, and Wilco Help Marc Maron Become a Sensitive Man [Video]

This is one of those great moments where the stars align and a cavalcade of great artists come together to create something truly beautiful. In the new music video for singer songwriter Nick Lowe (Cruel to be Kind), Tim Heidecker plays the role of a new age therapist who walks WTF podcast host Marc Maron through “smile piles” and “rollover whispers.” In typical T&E fashion, uncomfortable wardrobe choices abound. Also, rock group Wilco, singer Robyn Hitchcock, and actress Maria Thayer show up — because why not? Watch it, and see Heidecker help Maron find his prismatic aura. Now all it needs is some shrim.

Meet Milk Man, the Superhero With a Distressing Super Power [Video]

Freddie Wong and his creative crew have temporarily abandoned the realm of gaming and special effects wizardry, instead venturing into the absurd for their latest video. It’s a pretty fantastic, albeit somewhat disgusting, look at a new superhero called Milk Man. You can imagine where it goes from here. Though not too gross, the lactose intolerant amongst our readers may want to skip this one.

Wikipedia to Blackout on January 18th Protesting SOPA and PIPA

The bad news is that while SOPA may be “shelved,” PIPA is still on. The good news is that while PIPA may still be on, Jimmy Wales has come out and announced that Wikipedia’s anti-SOPA, anti-PIPA blackout is on too. The decision isn’t unilateral, but rather by concensus of the Wikipedia community and as such, the English language Wikipedia will be going dark on January 18th from midnight to midnight EST reaching an estimated 25 million users globally. Better listen to what Jimmy says and get your homework done ahead of time.

Parody Miyamoto Revives Your Favorite Nintendo Franchises, Is Gleefully Insane

Social networking is a perfect storm for parodies of public figures, and game developers are no exception. You might be aware of @PeterMolydeux and his ridiculously lofty, high-concept pitches. If you like that, but you want something a little more absurd, @miyamotodev is a must-see. You know what? It’s a must see in general. When Shigeruo Miyamoto announced he was stepping down to work on smaller games, I never thought this would be the glorious, glorious outcome.

Mojang Working With LEGO to Make Official LEGO Minecraft Sets

Minecraft is basically cyber-LEGOs in spirit. Granted, there have been plenty of other attempts at creating cyber-LEGOs, all of which were questionably successful. However, none of them took off the way Minecraft did. Now, it seems like Minecraft might have a chance to retcon its history, so to speak, and get its own, official LEGO playsets. Mojang is working with LEGO through the CUUSOO system to get several different models made and hopefully open the door to more Minecraft LEGOs down the road.

Finally: You Can Play Desert Bus on Your Phone

The saga of Desert Bus is as long and storied as the game itself. Originally created in 1995 by magicians Penn and Teller for the short-lived SegaCD, Desert Bus was merely a piece of a much larger suite of games called Smoke and Mirrors. Though never released, Desert Bus gained much notoriety as it involved driving from Tucson from Las Vegas at 45 mph in real time.

Now, after years of waiting, the game is available for your mobile device.

You Should Go Tell Google To Do A Barrel Roll

I think someone at Google has been playing Star Fox recently, or just likes taking orders, or maybe both. In any event, you should totally go to Google right now and tell it to “do a barrel roll,” by which I mean, enter that as your search query. I won’t tell you exactly what happens, but you can probably make a pretty good guess. “Z or R twice,” also works. Unfortunately “try a u-turn,” “try a somersault,” and “use the boost to get through” all seem to have no effect. Maybe one day.
