Civilization IV is First Video Game Nominated for Grammy

Composer Christopher Tin received a Grammy Award nomination for the song “Baba Yetu,” the theme song for the stellar Civilization IV, making this the first time in history a video game has been nominated for a Grammy. The song, performed by the Soweto Gospel Choir, was nominated for the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists category.
A little behind on the times, the song was nominated for a Grammy five years after Civilization IV released with it as the theme, though any gamer who has ever heard the song will undoubtedly be happy by the nomination nonetheless, as it’s a great piece of music that is a wonderful representation for what gaming has to offer.
The Grammy Awards is set to air on February 13, 2011, and hopefully Christopher Tin can bring one home for the gamers. Check out the video below to listen to “Babu Yetu” and get it stuck in your head for a while.
