Company Makes Custom Stuffed Toys Out of Children’s Drawings

Child’s Own Studio does something pretty neat: If you supply the studio with a drawing a child made, the studio will produce a stuffed toy using the child’s drawing as the blueprint. Are you an overprotective parent who will stop at nothing to make sure your child is both safe from possibly iffy design choices, but also one who makes sure their child gets exactly what they want at all times always? Child’s Own Studio actually prefers you, stating that the more directions provided, the better.

On the site’s official FAQ, it is noted that there isn’t a set price, and the studio will provide a quote once the child’s drawing is received, though standard U.S. and Canadian shipping will cost $15. The toy ends up being around 12 to 14 inches long on average, and the toy takes about 2 to 4 weeks to make once the payment is received, though rush orders are possible, there will be an extra fee for that.

The studio is willing to use material in the toy that has been provided for them so long as it is possible, such as a sentimental blankey, and to prevent any kind of dissatisfaction, the studio will show you pictures of the finished product before they ship it, so they can work out any kinks you may find. They do say they prefer children’s drawings, but they aren’t opposed to special requests from adults. Read on below to check out some of the other completed projects, including an aloof blue cat, a fire-breathing dragon, and a stick figure with a proportionally humongous head.

You don’t have to just keep adding dependent clauses to the ends of your sentences. Type a period, start sentences anew.

    Alert!

Grammar PoliceChief Meg Hargis makes a daring attempt to save a rather interesting article by interjecting drab and stuffy English rules. Chief Hargis says, beware of “adding dependent clauses to the ends of your sentences”, if you are caught in violation, you will be nagged terribly.

I assume this is a clever troll due to the sentence, “Type a period, start sentences anew.”

There is a problem with making a toy that looks exactly like a drawing.  The child is bound to be disappointed and dismayed with a thing that looks like what his little fingers could draw and not like the  wonderful picture he held in his imagination and attempted to recreate.

  • Anonymous

Or the exact opposite happens and they are filled with pride and excitement as their vision becomes reality.

  • guest

Well my two girls both said they would love to have one that looks exactly like their drawings. I explained that it would look exactly like they drew it on the paper and not what they pictured in their head, and was told that is the point momma, we love our drawings just the way they are. So while some children might be dismayed, it goes to show you that not all children would be.  :)

I don’t know this person at all, but to be fair your sentence structure in the second paragraph:

Some stuff , some more stuff , and some more stuff , some stuff .

Stuff , and some more stuff , though even more stuff , extra stuff .

The first sentence of the 3rd paragraph has 5 statements joined by commas. Etc etc.

Looking at the article I wouldn’t ridicule someone for pointing out that it is written with lots of commas and follow on thoughts instead of breaking things into separate sentences with periods. That being said, I don’t care how you write your articles as long as the content is enjoyable.

And as far as trolling…her Facebook page shows she is an English tutor. So um, I don’t think they were intending to troll you.

  • Bob

If you’re going to try and correct someone’s grammar, you had better be sure your grammar is perfect…

Your sentence “type a period, start sentences anew” is incorrect. The correct form would be “type a period; start a sentence anew” or “type a period, and start a sentence anew.” What you did is called is a comma splice (you can’t combine independent clauses with a comma).

I am in no way perfect and I am aware that my grammar is far from superior, before you try to pick flaws in this post; I just think if you are going to try and correct an English tutor, you should have superior grammar.  However, “type a period, and start a sentence anew” is incorrect also; commas do not come before ‘and’ unless under specific circumstances, which this is not.

May I also point out “what you did is called is a comma splice”.  It doesn’t take much to know that statement is incorrect. I believe it should be “what you did is called a comma splice”.

Stop trolling Bob, just stop trolling.

    > However, “type a period, and start a sentence anew” is incorrect also; commas do not come before ‘and’ unless under specific circumstances, which this is not.

No. Two independent clauses must be joined by a comma and a conjunction. The comma before the “and” conjunction is necessary because they join two independent clauses.

In US English, a comma may come before “and” in a list. This is called the serial comma.

Um… I also love it when people feel compelled to put their two cents worth in regarding what they insist is “inconsequential crap”. :-p   (Let the name-calling begin!)

  • Abalargh

“Type a period and start a sentence anew,” is the proper way to write that sentence.  The comma is NOT appropriate because the list does not contain more than two items.  ”Type a period, type two spaces, and start a sentence anew,” would be one way to include commas in a list.  However, the comma directly before the word “and” is not necessary.  It simply depends on the author’s preference.  The more commonly accepted form would exclude the comma before “and” altogether.

Meg’s actions are justified because the author of any article should at least know when to stop a sentence and start a new one.  Sadly, she should have made sure her grammar was entirely correct before submitting her post.  Now she looks like a troll.

For the most part, I agree Carolyn. Actually, that was my first thought after seeing the first one. But I do see where the key lies in whether or not the child was initially happy with their drawing. Then they might not be disappointed in seeing it recreated.

It’s not “try and correct,” but “try to correct.” “Try and correct” means one tries (to do what?) and one also corrects. In such a case, “try” would require a direct object.

Choose one. Your original is incorrect.

Also, there is no problem with loosely adding dependent clauses. They help the writing flow. Be more weary of excessive pauses via periods and commas. Those can make your writing choppy.

  • XP1
