This is What it Looks Like When You Blow a Hole in a 100-Year Old Dam

The Condit Dam has sat on the White Salmon River since its completion in 1913. However, the concerte construction had not kept pace with technological and was deemed no longer economically viable to operate. That’s when things get exciting, and several explosive charges were placed in the dam to break its hold on the river. Once detonated, a deluge of water was released, draining the reservoir in a mere two hours. Plans are already in motion to remove the rest of the damn and restore the free flow of the White Salmon River, hopefully resulting in a healthier river ecosystem overall.
