The CW Greenlights a Smallville Replacement… About Raven?

With the totally definite termination of its long running hit-with-dubious-relationship-to-actual-DC-Canon Smallvile at the end of this season, the CW has been looking around for some other teen superhero programming to fill the void.

Batman, the original protagonist of the show that eventually became Smallville; and Robin, the protagonist of 2008′s almost greenlit The Graysons, are both out; due to legitimate worries of running a Batman themed teen drama while Christopher Nolan‘s much darker Batman films were being released.  Wonder Woman’s getting her own show somewhere else down the line, and canon-disregarding Birds of Prey was abandoned after one season, so who is left?

Raven, apparently.

Yes, Raven, a character created to appear in the first incarnation of the Teen Titans, who has, as far as we can tell from Wikipedia, never starred in her own book.

Don’t get us wrong, we think she’s pretty cool and she’s got a great character history woven through some of the most memorable DC events since the 80′s, but she seems like a pretty obscure choice at first glance.

But at second glance, the CW wants a new teen drama, right?  The other Justice Leaguers weren’t really doing superhero stuff in their teens… Teens, though.  Doesn’t DC have some kind of teen Justice League?  They made a cartoon about it, right?  Hey, one of them’s half demon!  Teenage girls like that kind of thing these days, don’t they?  It’ll be like if Bella and Edward had a baby and that baby was Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

All that we know about the CW’s Raven is that she will go by the name Rachel Roth, which may indicate that the show will be based on the current version of the character, a teenage high school student in whom the spirit of Raven was incarnated so that she could fulfill a doomsday prophecy by marrying the leader of a cult that worshiped the demonic father of the original Raven.

See what we mean?  Magic, demons, cults, high school.  We’re interested.  Go forth and don’t screw it up, The CW.

    That’s so…

    …eh, too easy.

The CW is all about demon rape. It is their bread and butter.

I think this is a great overlooked character and able to make a great tv show looking forward for it

I really have faith in this new show, maybe because I’m one her fans.
I hope CW do this project, it’s a very good and ambitious one. Just they’ll have to think a lot about how to develop it, and the story they will follow, cause there are many version, so to speak.
But principally, get out from their minds the twilight stuff, better that they don’t think about it, cause personally all that stuff is just fashion, just by the moment, something fleeting. Raven is much than just an emo girl. She’s not vampire, and even if she was, Twilight’s characters aren’t, they’re just pathetic, an insult to vampire fans (like me ¬¬).
She represents an intern and old fight between good an evil, the typical redemption, but better, cause she hasn’t done anything, but she might, and deep down would want….Well, the point is that hope and want them to do this, hopefully they won’t leave this just as a proyect, and to know developing it, cause this has potential.
And sorry to all the Twilight fans, I respect your tastes and the great writer that Stephanie Meyer is, but I hate that (Twilight ¬¬)
CW, please, I wanna see Rae on TV!

I think this show has potential I myself watched the teen titans cartoon when I was younger and I read the comics as well and Raven has been my favorite titan but if they do this show I would suggest a few things:
1 Don’t try to add in a love interest Raven has never been one to go gaga over a guy.
2 Have her fight actual DC villians Raven is at the point in the DC continuity where many known bad guys are out and causing trouble and there are quite a few magic based ones that would be cool to see.
3 If any of the titans are on the show don’t have it where they are meeting for the first time as Rachel Roth she has a long history with most of them.
4 Since Starfire is one of her oldest and closest friends they should have her be one of the first titans to guest star on the show but I say this she better have orange skin or I will be pissed.
5 Raven is one of the deepest superheros in DC so don’t try to valley girl her in any way she is not like that at all.
6 Last but not least I say this to CW stay as close to the continuity of this charecter as best you can don’t do it like smallville where at this point it spits in the face of established history.
I hope that this show will make it CW has a bad history with superhero themed shows and I would hate to see this one fail i think if done right this show may top smallville in many ways and if any of the people working on it read this I hope you use the suggestions I have posted I believe it will draw many of the fans of both the cartoon and the comics which at this point is in the millions best of luck.

“It’ll be like if Bella and Edward had a baby and that baby was Buffy the Vampire Slayer”
no it would just be a wuss sparkly vampire baby. or if it were buffy it would be a show about a girl who will kill her dad one day.
