A Thing We’d Like a Scientific Explanation For ASAP, Please: Dead Animals in Arkansas

It’s all well and good to joke about signs of the end times now and again, but seriously.  When 5,000 birds drop out of the sky New Years Night, and then elsewhere in the state 100,000 fish roll over and beach themselves, it’s time to start looking at man-made causes.

The alternatives are just too creepy.  From Mediaite:

An AP interview with an expert affiliated with the state’s Livestock and Poultry Commission suggested that the birds may have died as a result of “lightning or high-altitude hail.” Another possibility for the bird die-off? New Year’s Eve fireworks may have startled the birds so severely, that they died from stress.

But neither of these reasons would account for the massive fish die-off.

There were people killed by tornadoes on New Year’s Eve in Arkansas, so could those have accounted for the fish and birds as well?

It seems unlikely that fireworks would suddenly become a highly stressful event now, very interested in how this pans out though. I must admit Randall’s suggestion sounds good as at least a part cause, pretty co-incidental if it were 2 completely unrelated events but tornadoes tie them together a bit.

The possibilities on what could have caused this are as vast and as numerous as the birds that died. Though I’ve looked around quite a bit and a lot of people are not really buying the death by stress due to fireworks explanation. I think we can all agree however that the cause must be found, as it could be any number of possibilities that could effect people, and other fauna in the area. The last thing we need is another H1N1 like panic, or god forbid the notorious “end of the world” signs we could see many people pick up from all this.

@2012 – You’re end of the world shenanigans don’t fool me buddy.

Anybody live in Virginia? As the sun was setting today, I was leaving the gym, and saw 3 like streams of light in the sky. They were all coming from toward the sun. One of them started going through the air, it looked like a rocket. I called up my girlfriend and dad to make sure I wasn’t going crazy, and more started to appear. They would start off as glowing dots, and all would eventually turn into “rockets” Little streams of fire in the sky. About 30 minutes later, about 15 of these streams came and gone, all originating toward the sun.

How do you originate toward something? That totally doesn’t make sense.

To be fair saying they were all coming from the sun doesn’t sound much better. lol

Also any other thoughts what with 2 million Maryland fish and more happening in Sweden, Brazil and New Zealand. Are these small deaths actually more common and we’re just looking a little harder now?

    http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Two-Million-Fish-Found-Dead-In-Chesapeake-Bay-Maryland-After-Birds-Die-In-Arkansas-And-Louisiana/Article/201101115880847?lpos=World_News_First_World_News_Article_Teaser_Region_3&lid=ARTICLE_15880847_Two_Million_Fish_Found_Dead_In_Chesapeake_Bay_Maryland_After_Birds_Die_In_Arkansas_And_Louisiana

I must admit the cold water strain on the Maryland fish is great for anyone wanting to say we are bringing around our own doom with global warming.

It is obvious NotCrazy meant to state “from the sun”. Grow up and stop trolling.
