Christmas Comes Early: Demonoid’s BitTorrent Tracker Returns, Potentially Heralds Revival

Recommended Videos

When Demonoid went down, there was little hope that it would return. Most former users were firmly entrenched in the doom and gloom camp, and considering the circumstances, they had every reason to feel that way. Those who’ve held on to hope might have cause to celebrate, however, as it appears the reports of Demonoid’s death have been greatly exaggerated. Yes, Virginia, Demonoid’s BitTorrent tracker lives once again, and that potentially means the website itself isn’t far off.

The tracker, while originating from a new location, could herald the site’s relaunch, but it’s all still up in the air at this point. TorrentFreak explains:

It may not come as a surprise that Demonoid is no longer with its former hosting company in the Ukraine. It appears that they have moved to Hong Kong instead, judging from the IP-address linked to the tracker.

While the news of the revived tracker will delight many Demonoid users, it may take some time before the site itself returns, if that’s the plan. In 2007 and 2009 Demonoid suffered similar downtime episodes and at the time the tracker reappeared several weeks before the site.

So, there’s precedent here, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Demonoid has a history of disappearing for a short while only to return with much fanfare. The harder folks try to stomp them out, the more entrenched they become. If nothing else, that alone is admirable.
