Drawing Machine Takes Prize at Maker Faire 2011

Peter Moon brought his amazing Drawing Machine to the 2011 Maker Faire not expecting to show it off because, as he said, it was was still in development. But his clever device that takes JPG images and reproduces them mechanically was good enough to ear him an Editor’s Choice award.

Moon’s creation is as much about the final product as it is process. The machine uses custom software to “decide” how to create each image, resulting in no two images being the same. The process of drawing the images can also take weeks or months, meaning that visitors can stop in and see the machine’s progress across the page.

The Drawing Machine is interesting to hear about, but far more impressive to see in action. Read on below for a video of the Drawing Machine working on a portrait of Frankenstein.
