Facebook Will Allow You to Revise History With a “Look Back” Edit Feature

Or you could spend two minutes giggling at the dumb stuff you post and move on. Your call.

If your Facebook “A Look Back” video was filled with nothing but embarrassing drunk photos, exes, and screenshots of Facebook telling you to get more friends (what do you mean, “That’s oddly specific”? Stop looking at me like that), don’t worry; Facebook is planning an edit feature, so you can revise your Facebook history into something less depressing.

Sources at Facebook have told Tech Crunch that the edit button was planned to launch with the videos, but it wasn’t ready in time. A rep from Facebook confirmed to them that the feature is on its way, though, saying:

We will be launching an Edit feature soon that will allow people to change moments in their movies or update the ones they shared. I don’t have exact timing at the moment, but this will enable people to remove a post from the movie that was pre-selected and change it to a different one.

The feature itself will allow you to pick alternate posts and pictures to be shown in the video from the ones that Facebook preselected for you. For some of us, that’s a little disappointing, because the humor in the things our original videos chose to show was way more fun than if they’d actually come out as serious retrospectives.

I’d way rather see people laughing at themselves over the reality of their own Facebook posts than trying to make it something more meaningful. (Personally, mine was 90% humorous Photoshop jobs, and I prefer it that way.)

With the addition of the edit feature, it looks like the videos might be more than just a one-off event, so get ready for your newsfeed to become inundated with differently themed retrospective videos of your friends’ babies and pets and whatever else it is people post on Facebook.

Then, we can turn Facebook into a vicious cycle of retrospective videos of old posts, and then we’ll have retrospective videos of all the retrospective videos, and then retrospective videos of our retrospective videos of our—you get the idea.
