No. 1 | Hurricane Sandy at Night
Round #1 saw El Hierro facing off against this night time image of Hurricane Sandy hammering the East Coast. It might just be that when this photo was taken I was under that storm hoping my loved ones were okay and that my power stayed on, but I'd have voted for Sandy.
No. 2 | Natural Color Image of Hurricane Sandy
That first picture of Sandy may have lost in Round #1, but it was a huge storm and kind of a big deal, so more than one photo made it into the contest. This natural color image of the storm held on until the second round when it was smacked down by El Hierro's fiery dominance.
No. 3 | New Red Sea Volcanic Island
Round #3 saw a fair fight. Volcano v. Volcano, with El Hierro up against a new volcanic island in the Red Sea. El Hierro proved to be the better of the two volcanos and came out on top.
No. 4 | The Earth at Night
In another upset victory, El Hierro bested this beautiful image of the Earth lit up at night. The "Night Lights" image is kind of a favorite here at Geekosystem, and I even wrote about it a few times. I love it, but the people have spoken, and the people love El Hierro.
No. 5 | A Crack in the Ice
Finally, in the last round of voting, El Hierro went up against this photo of a crack in the Pine Island Glacier. El Hierro came out with 91% of the votes proving that ice is no match for an erupting volcano.
