Elmo Puppeteer Vindicated! Accuser Recants Allegations, Childhood Restored

Earlier this week, we reported with great sorrow and no small degree of queasiness that Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash had been accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenager. Good news, everyone! The New York Times this morning is reporting that the anonymous accuser has recanted the allegations. In a statement made by his lawyers, Clash’s accuser is now calling the relationship an “adult consensual” one. On second thought, we’re upgrading that to great news, because when this story broke on Monday morning, we felt just gross. All. Day. Long.

Though Clash is understandably ducking the spotlight right now, a spokeswoman gave a statement on his behalf, saying, “I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further.”

Amen, sister. Can we all take a cue from this and not discuss it any further? Please? No one wants to hear the phrase “Elmo sex scandal” ever again. In fact, we’d love nothing more than to forget it ever existed in the first place.

There is no word about when or if Clash will end his leave of absence from Sesame Street, whichbegan at the start of this mess. Substitute puppeteers will fill in for Clash as production on the show continues. Meanwhile, producers are working with Clash to find an eventual replacement, as while this may not be the end of Clash’s tenure as the crimson-furred children’s TV icon, that day will have to come sooner or later. For while puppeteers may come and go, Elmo must go on.

That’s too bad. I was hoping this would be the end of Elmo. Super Grover deserves more screen time.

  • Idlethoughts

It’s been a while so I may be wrong about this, but doesn’t Grover already have like five segments?

I’m waiting for all those right-wing douchebags to jump in and start saying how this is obviously a gay conspiracy to silence the poor victim.

  • Enthusiast

No, both people involved were men. US RWDs would only claim a gay conspiracy if the accused was a woman… but then it wouldn’t be gay… It’s complicated…

No, it’s more likely that the left-wing douche bags will tell us that we shouldn’t have been persecuting Clash even if the ‘victim’ were a child. LWDs HATE children (they’re pro-abortion, but anti-death penalty… its clearly not murder they’re against, just the murder of adults. And no one who loves children would burden them with $50,000 worth of back taxes the second they are born.)

The only way to determine this is to watch more Sesame Street. We should all do this immediately!

  • Idlethoughts

Your jumping to a lot of conclusions and not fairly representing the actual reasons people hold those views. That’s rather rude of you, please don’t do this in the future.

  • Enthusiast

Ah, so its OK for Lauren to jump to the conclusion that all right wingers are homophobes, but it’s not OK for me to point out the obvious that being OK with murdering children but not OK with murdering murderers is hypocritical? I forgot about the liberal double standard. I will endeavor to be more sensitive to those who are burdening my children with massive debt so they can appear to care about children while at the same time murdering millions of them every year.

Darn… I did it again. Sorry.

  • Idlethoughts

She was out of line too, but there wasn’t enough content in his post to be worth addressing. You on the other hand apparently honestly cannot see the other side of numerous actual issues.

Here are some examples of what many “liberals” actually believe:
(this is independent of my own beliefs)
-Pre-birth babies also known as fetuses are not yet people or children as they cannot live independently of the mother and, depending on how early it is done, are often not yet sentient.

-The quality or continuation of the mothers life is more important than a fetuses potential life.
-The death penalty accomplishes nothing, it does not undo the crime, it does not keep us safer than a life sentence, and due to appeals it is more expensive. Meaningless killing is wrong, therefore the death-penalty is wrong.
    - Living children our the future and cannot fight for themselves, therefore they should be protected from dangers such as pedophiles. (actually virtually everyone agrees with this one, the idea of I “child hating” political alinement is preposterous)
-Taxes provided for thing which everyone benefits form as well as ensuring the less fortunate don’t starve or die. And no one has taxes he can’t afford, the system is balanced to ensure that.

Wether or not you believed or agreed with any of those, there are those who do. Everyone in the grand scheme of things wants what they believe would be best for the entire country, some of them are wrong. But you have no right to misrepresent and demonizes them just because you disagree with their beliefs.

…and Big-Bird is saying: “Hey! At least the spotlight is off of me for a change.”

See, most people don’t consider it murdering children. The SCOTUS obviously doesn’t or it wouldn’t have decided Roe v. Wade the way they did. You can call it murder all you want but that doesn’t removing a fetus murder.

And this whole burdened with $50,000 in debt is stupidity. All nations have debt and pretty much all families have debt. Does the children have a say in the matter? Of course not. Just like it doesn’t have a say in where it is born, what day it is born, or if it even going to get born. And seeing how the vast majority of that debt was accrued under GOP Presidents (Reagan tripled the debt he inherited, then Bush Sr. quadrupled the debt level he inherited from Reagan, Clinton actually lowered the debt, and then along comes W who inherits a powerhouse of an economy and then strangles it and leaves office having tripledthe debt yet again.), that you probably voted for, you are just as responsible for that debt as anybody else. I mean, what kind of idiot declares two wars, creates a new entitlement program (Medicare part D), and cuts taxes at the same time? America has never fought a war without raising taxes to pay for that war until W comes along. In fact, at this point, the GOP solution to everything is cut taxes. Too much debt? Cut taxes. The economy in a slump? Cut taxes. Too many people unemployed? Cut taxes. Worried about inflation? Cut taxes. And the absurdity of it all is that the vast majority of the money cut from the taxes goes to the people who don’t need it and don’t use it to stimulate the economy like tax cuts going to the middle class. Middle class people getting a tax cut (and the middle class did indeed get a tax cut under Obama along with a payroll tax cut) stimulates the economy far, far more than giving the wealthy tax cuts. Middle class people spend that money and consumer spending drives 70% of the economy. Middle class people don’t have money to spend = an economy that isn’t going to expand. And if tax cuts, cutting regulations, and having a GOP President is the panacea for all that ails the economy how come that exact prescription is what ruined the American economy? Do you know when America had the highest percentage of Americans in the middle class? During the presidency of that commie General Eisenhower when the top tax rate was 91%. You know, back in the good ole days when a man could earn enough to have a house, a car, send his kids to college, take vacations, and have his wife stay at home. That was accomplished under the burden of a top 91% tax rate. Taxes that built the highway system, pumped up our military so the USSR wouldn’t attack us or our allies, and allowed veterans to attend college. Investing in America creates jobs and expands the middle class.

The person who accused Clash also happened to have been arrested for robbing a person of $250,000 worth of jewelry at knife point. A real trash act.
