Get Your Eyjafjallajokull-Shaped Blankets Right Here [PSA]

Troublemaking Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull has been in the news a lot lately for grounding flights in the UK and across Europe into the weekend, thanks to the blanket of ash it has steadily been spewing over Europe. But Eyjafjallajokull is also the source material for quite a different type of blanket — the kind you can non-lethally throw over yourself when you’re cold.

Way back in 2005, Icelandic artist Vík Prjónsdóttir designed a blanket shaped like a map of region around the active volcano, complete with eruption. His design, which is approximately 90 by 60 inches, is handmade from 100% Icelandic wool. From its almost lyrical product description at indie art retailer Iukbox, where it’s available for purchase:

Snuggling up for warmth to an Icelandic volcanic landscape. The Joys of contrast. In the woolen womb of Island, imagine the Katla volcano, the hot springs, the snow…

The blanket doesn’t come cheap: A Regional Blanket will set you back €490, or roughly $660.
