as clever as this might be…anybody with any nautical experience would agree this is a unecessarily dangerous stunt. a good boaters reaction to such a vessel would be to drop everything and b-line it to possibly save a life.

Actually, it is art, but it is also highly amoral. It is akin to calling the police for a fake love. And that is illegal. However, since the high seas are no man’s “land”, there is no law set against it. Although if I ever meet this guy, I will punch him hard in the nuts. That is art, too, by your definition. If not, don’t be so close-minded!

I’d like to see a boatload of somali Pirates fit on that boat. Its a one man vessel, and as long as he isn’t hailing for help. Its pretty cool, … even if I paniced and rushed to his aid, I wouldnt be upset upon finding out it was a fake. I would get a good laugh out of it. It would be worth the trip.

I don’t know how I feel about this boat, but I do know that venting pent up frustration and anger anonymously online can be pretty satisfying. If it is due to dissatisfaction of one’s own life being spent on forums rather than on a fine vessel such as this, it makes it even better. Let’s hug.

Man, have you people ever been on a boat? They don’t just take off after someone if they perceive danger, they radio first to see what the situation is. Rage somewhere else, this article shouldn’t even have made a stir. It’s a boat, that is clearly legal sitting among at least a hundred other boats in a marina. If you can’t see the humor in it, you can at least see the craftsmanship that went into it.

It’s probably not verry energy efficient, so I don’t think he’ll take it out that often, and I don’t think they will become common in the seas either. The purpose of postmodern art is to break boundaries and to get people thinking. So the only fact that he gets this kind of debate: funny vs. amoral proves that this work of art is accomplished. Plus there was incredible craftmanship and ingeniering put it to this. I’m impressed.

It is a joke.  I highly doubt the thing is really cruising around in big water.  And thanks a lot to all of the assholes that keep throwing out the idea of Somalia Pirates.  Sure they have the idea now if they didn’t already.  Yes, this boat is a waist of time and all that, but all art is.  Art is great don’t get me wrong, but it is only used to create talking points.  This did its job perfectly.

Actually, it depends on what he does with it that makes it art or a safety things. If he drives around a beach where people know him it’s art. If he sells it to pirates in Africa, it’s terrorism.

I agree completely with Appelschild. It’s part of being an artist to stand out and to play with ones emotions. What Julien has done is nothing short of brilliant. I think that if he were to read all of these negative comments, it would only bring him joy. You people obviously don’t understand the way an artist thinks.

This boat is kind of like a dirty joke. Yes it is funny / clever, but there is a time and place for it. You wouldn’t tell a dirty joke in an inappropriate place would you? Then maybe the same hold true for this vessel… Just don’t cruise it around the lake or ocean, maybe its better suited as a prop for a shore side bar, Disney land, novelty marina landmark, etc… Its like marijuana, no need for people to get bent out of shape about it, just don’t use it irresponsibly, that’s all :)

I actually agree with the negative statements about this situation knowing the lengths I’d go through to help somebody I thought was in trouble, probably break my phone, damage my wallet and contents due to water, call emergency, just to make sure no living being has to go through suffering, just to find out the guy was messing with me, because most people just point and go OMG until they realize there is no problem at all. I’m glad people are laughing, but in the off chance I went out of my day just so somebody could laugh would be lame. Laughter is healthy, but not something that is required above all other….. And even if nothing bad happens, nobody is going to react to somebody’s boat that is sinking, thinking that its just a joke, and they may even point and laugh, and walk on, because Joe Dingleberry had a great and witty idea.
