Square Enix to Release Final Fantasy Trading Card Game

Back in the day of the height of the Final Fantasy series, each game generally had some sort of fun mini-game, two of which, Triple Triad in Final Fantasy VIII and Tetra Master in Final Fantasy IX, were addictive collectible card games. By way of an announcement over on 4Gamer.net, Square Enix let the world know that a real life Final Fantasy trading card game is being developed, and will be released in Japan on February 25 of next year, published by Hobby Japan.

Details are slim at the moment, with none of the game mechanics being revealed, though some of the characters have been revealed. The TCG’s website shows Cloud and Sephiroth of Final Fantasy VII fame, along with Zidane from Final Fantasy IX. Other characters are shown as silhouettes, though Yuna and Aeris seem to be displayed as the two upper left silhouettes. The posting over on 4Gamer.net also shows sample cards of other series favorites, such as Tidus from Final Fantasy X, and Kefka from Final Fantasy VI, as well as a series un-favorite, Lightning, from Final Fantasy XIII. Along with series characters, the TCG is promised to feature series summons as well.

Hopefully, more details will release sometime soon, as well as a plan for a stateside release.
