Red Nose Day: Comedy for Cure Kids, held just this past Friday, August 24th, was meant to be all about raising money for research into battling life-threatening illnesses in kids in New Zealand. The whole goal of Cure Kids, in fact, is exceptionally worthwhile. Who could turn down helping out kids like this, when asked? It should come as no surprise then that Flight of the Conchords, New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based folk-parody duo, was involved. They even wrote a new song, with some help, and it’s exactly what you’d expect.
Specifically, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement were contacted to take part in the event, but subsequently offered to write the song. The song itself, titled “Feel Inside (And Stuff Like That)”, draws from the imaginations of local schoolchildren that the two visited for inspiration. The lyrics are essentially an amalgamation of the things that they were told by the children, though they’d never heard of Flight of the Conchords before.
The song draws on a host of Kiwi celebrities to help fill it out. It’s hard to feel inside when it’s just the two of you, after all. NZ Herald News lists a number of specific people that took part in the collaboration:
Musicians Dave Dobbyn, Anika Moa, Savage, Elizabeth Marvelly, PNC, Boh Runga, Zowie, Nathan King, Peter Urlich and Brooke Fraser will form a supergroup of sorts to sing Feel Inside.
The song is already available on iTunes, and a percentage of the sales will be going to charity. Help a sick Kiwi kid out, won’t you?
