Harsh Samsung Galaxy S II Commercial Spends Entirety of Ad Insulting Apple Consumers

Currently, the Samsung Galaxy S II is seen as the iPhone’s biggest competitor. So, instead of getting the edge over their rivals by showing everyone whatever unique features the Galaxy S II sports, Samsung decided to insult Apple consumers — not even Apple the company, but the people who buy their products — for the length of a commercial.

The ad not only makes fun of Apple consumers, but (probably unintentionally) mocks people who wait in line for product launches, and even insults baristas simply because of their job. The ad doesn’t really focus on the actual phone, with the only features mentioned being the big screen and the 4G capability.

The ad would make more sense if Samsung targeted Apple directly, or their products, but by insulting Apple consumers, Samsung is insulting the people that they are asking to buy Samsung products. “You are stupid. Please give us money?” A bit of snark and some healthy corporate rivalry are always good things, but insulting the people you are targeting is a pretty weird move.

You’ve stood in a lot of those Apple lines, haven’t you?

    That comment was so clever.

Insulting the target buyers is going to sell those things for Samsung?

I think Sammy knows their customer base, and i am guessing they aren’t converting many Apple users to Samsung…they are converting people who are moving to new smart phones and don’t quite “get” the Apple phenomenon and other Android phone users. Probably isn’t going to hurt them much to make iPhones users look ridiculous. Its kinda like hey new smartphone converter, do you want to look silly like these guys, or do you want an amazing phone. Interesting tactic. We will see how long the commercial lasts.

So when apple runs an ad campaign for YEARS based on the idiocy, ineptitude and general fail-ness of PCs and their users compared to the stylish, smart and cool Apple products and their users.. thats advertising genius and not malicious at all.

  • Dontgoemo

The only reason Apple is so big is because of the customers who don’t understand that Apple products are really just overpriced crap. So make liking Apple products “uncool” therefore bringing more people to the light side. Also the barista joke was a little funny, a stab at pop culture and the stereotypical iPhone user.

  • Dontgoemo

forgot to point out this is from a Apple fan site, of course they would be butthurt over this.

I didn’t see it as that harsh. I’m an Apple user and found the ad hilarious.

So maybe they’re aiming at me…. I better watch out.

It’s actually very clever advertising, because they’re echoing what society is already mocking Apple users for.
There’s already tons on memes, parody videos, and just general discussion about Apple users paying a lot more, for a lot less, and for no apparent reason.

Even people who are Apple fans don’t identify themselves as ‘Those Totally Stupid Apple Fan Boys’ so you can get away with mocking them.

the target is soft apple iphone buyers.  People that aren’t part of the apple cult but are buying the iphone because of the buzz around it.

If you’re feeling insulted by this you’re probably not buying Samsung anyway. Also, you’re way too sensitive.

Aside from that, this commercial is hardly worth the attention it’s been given since it’s just not very good.

You think people who wait in line for the iPhone that was just released last month are Samsung’s target buyers?

  • Yadum

being an apple user, all I’ve got to say is what the hell do you think the “i’m a mac, I’m a PC” ads were, smartstuff…?

  • Anonymous

Wow… lighten up.  The ad is awesome!

  • Jackbondnj16

I used to be an Apple hater too, and I’ll admit, it’s way overpriced, and it’s a little too limited at times. But Apple is some amazing technology, the phones are super handy, and have you been in one of their stores? That’s a weird marketing paradise.

  • Anonymous

The 3 percent, if that, that wait in line for hours or days are not who Samsung is trying to sell their phones to. A lot of people tend to not be very fond of these hipsters due to their smuggness and Samsung is cashing in on this fact by poking fun at them.

Not only that but Samsung at this point really really hates Apple and they just dont give a **** anymore.

Im not saying the iPhone isnt handy but it sure isnt as handy or quick/easy to use as its competitors (Android being handy, Windows Phone being quick/easy).

  • Donutz87

Never, and truly proud of it!

They’re not.  I’m talking about Samsung.  The ad is about Samsung’s phone’s being better than Apple’s iPhone…  I don’t think their ad is going to do the intended job…
Samsung could have come up with a better ad, is all…

  • Anonymous

I think that myself…  I’m only buying an Apple iPhone because that’s the only one available here where I live…  I have agree with Samsung, but if there were Samsung phones available, I would have one, way faster than an iPhone…  I also agree with your statement about hipsters being insufferably smug(probably a lot of other things, too)..

  • Fenaldo Riterro

Thanks for not having a short memory. Happy Thanksgiving BTW!

  • Anonymous

They’re not. They should consider a better phone than iPhone, unless iPhone is the only game in town…

  • Anonymous

That could go either way…  Apple or Samsung’s… The folks who waited in line for the Apple iPhone and got disappointed might just go to Samsung.

  • Tololololo

I see what you did there.

  • The ODD God

The reason Apple’s products are so highly priced is that it has superior hardware. Not that they know something other companies don’t – they just choose to build products of higher quality. And, on the whole, they’re user friendly. If you keep it clean, your PC can last just as long and run just as fast as any Mac can.

  • BadGhostie

Well Im a Canuck so my thanksgiving was a month and a half ago, but you’re welcome.

So, I can’t tell what they’re going for here. I don’t see many Apple fans being converted by being made fun of. Nobody understands the pleasure of waiting in line with other Apple enthusiasts for a new Apple gadget. We don’t judge you guys when you wait in line for football tickets, video games, etc…. People wait in lines for stuff they wanna buy that other people also wanna buy. So what.

So, if what they’re trying to do with this commercial is make Samsung phone buyers feel better about not having a cool club of Fantarded geeks to hang around with, you’ve succeeded.

But if you’re trying to convert iPhone users to Samsung, I doubt you’ll get many takers. But you will get a lot of chuckles… silly hipsters with their iPhones.. hee hee.

  • Sense

So you can insult someone’s occupation and then blame them for being over sensitive? You really are a f!cktard… And don’t take that too sensitively.

  • Rei

Being neither an Apple or Android fan i can tell that Samsung is not
targeting the people featured in the commercial (ie Apple fanboys) as
potential costumers. Let’s face it, the fact that one is a fanboy of any
product will not make you switch brands just because of a few
commercials like this. These are more targeted on people who have yet to
    purchase smartphones.

And if you see the whole commercials in its entirety, it does focus on
some of the specs and features of the SGS 2 and the iPhone 4S itself.

I don’t thing it also mocks “barristas” (as a profession). It simply points out how pretentious
and arrogant some people believe themselves to be just because they
choose to align themselves with a certain product.

Honestly i found the Samsung ads very bold and funny because it captures the essence of how fanboys act and behave but it doesn’t really want me to jump up and buy an SGS 2.

  • Pokeman!

I see it as less insulting and more.. Why would you stand in the same line over and over for the same product? its questioning them more likely. Apple is a trend. Nothing more
