Gambitious, Kickstarter for Video Games Only, Launches Despite Being Somewhat Unnecessary

Recommended Videos

We’ve previously reported on the kind of numbers that Kickstarter has managed to pump into its Games category as of late. In short, this year has seen rather tremendous growth when it comes to crowdfunding for games, and especially video games. With that tremendous growth, of course, comes an increase in the number of companies looking to capitalize on a market they never knew existed. For example, today marks the launch of Gambitious, a crowdfunding platform specifically for video games, that probably really didn’t need to exist.

The one big item that Gambitious has over Kickstarter is that Gambitious users can actually get dividends based on the product’s they’ve backed. There’s some speculation on whether that’s even legal in the United States, but, hey, it’s a start.

What makes this particular platform different from the rest? GamesIndustry explains:

“Crowdfunding is causing a great seismic shift in how projects get funded, however, there are risks of crash-and-burn due to unfulfilled projects and unfinished games,” said CEO Paul Hanraets.

“Unlike other crowdfunding platforms, Gambitious is designed specifically for the video game industry and ups the ante of developer credibility, investor engagement and development cycle understanding.”

Whether Gambitious actually turns out to be all that different remains to be seen. In the meantime, they’re just another relatively unproven crowdfunding platform trying to ride the wave.
