Alabama Geometry Teacher Uses Obama Assassination to Teach Students about Angles

This is not an Onion headline: a geometry teacher in Alabama taught his students about parallel lines and angles using the charming example of assassinating President Obama.

The geometry teacher, who has not been named, was investigated by the Secret Service after word of his lesson got out, but the superintendent at the school where the teacher works, Corner High School, says that while the Obama assassination example showed “extremely poor judgment” on the teacher’s part, there are no plans to fire him.

The Birmingham News reports:

Officials said the Jefferson County geometry teacher was apparently teaching students about parallel lines and angles and used the example of where to stand and aim if shooting Obama.

“He was talking about angles and said, ‘If you’re in this building, you would need to take this angle to shoot the president,’ ” said Joseph Brown, a senior in the geometry.

School Superintendent Phil Hammonds says there are no plans to fire him. ”We are going to have a long conversation with him about what’s appropriate,” Hammonds tells The News. “It was extremely poor judgment on his part, and a poor choice of words.”

I spy, with my little eye, an adult abusing their position in the educational system.

This really upsets me. Tell me, again, how is the teacher is NOT in line to be fired as an educator in a public school system?

Obvious moral indications aside, this type of ‘lesson’ wouldn’t be acceptable if it were presented by a student.. so why is the administrative staff turning a blind eye to this behavior from an (alleged) adult? Were this a student, I could easily see grounds for suspension and mandatory therapy.

Why does the teacher who exploits their position for not only political influence, but general *ill-willed* influence to children get to pick up their paycheck this Friday?

Smells like foul play. Is there an address we can write to the administrative staff of the school system available?
