Google to Display Anti-SOPA Message During Blackout

It’s official, tomorrow’s anti-SOPA protest has reached its height: Google will be displaying an anti-SOPA message during the blackout. Google will not actually be blacking out, but instead will display a link to an anti-SOPA, anti-PIPA message on its homepage, presumably in the form of a Google Doodle, but they haven’t said explicitly.

CNET quotes a Google spokeswoman as explaining the rationale this way:

“Like many businesses, entrepreneurs and web users, we oppose these bills because there are smart, targeted ways to shut down foreign rogue websites without asking American companies to censor the Internet. So tomorrow we will be joining many other tech companies to highlight this issue on our US home page.”

Short of an actual Google blackout, or maybe some kind of action by Facebook, this is the single best development protesters could possibly hope for.

I think Google should blackout like Wikipedia because to be honest I don’t think it’ll will get the message across by just blacking out the logo

this is pissing me off. First off I use Wikipedia to educate myself and my daughter for her school. Not all can afford them heavy set of encyclopedias-like alot had before days of internet. Second I had to wait like 10 seconds before I could click on a link to Craigslist. What I sell and or buy is my business, so long as it’s legal. Third if they mess with Youtube..I am a musician. I post my videos of my cover songs (cover songs which the club I sing and play my bass at , the owners pay the fees to be able to let bands do covers and karaoke and besides what I do with MY videos of ME is my business. and finally what is this gonna do to my android phone? I depend on Google maps to get me places and use my android regularly! Politics need to stay out of this..this is a free country..not a fee country. It’s our internet. And don’t we pay enough for internet as is?? Leave us alone!     Messing with the internet is also going to mess with the education of our children!
