Thanks to Google, the Internet’s Suddenly Not Quite as Much About Porn

Google has added a new filter to their image search to make it harder to find porn, thus defeating the purpose of Google image search and the Internet as a whole. They insist this isn’t a censorship measure, but rather a move to make sure users find “exactly what they’re looking for.” Are people using Google image search for something other than porn? Huh, I’ll be damned.

We’re kidding. Everyone knows looking for porn in Google images is a bush league move, but Google isn’t removing any adult content, just making it a bit more of a chore to get to. Google explains it like this: “If you’re looking for adult content, you can find it without having to change the default setting — you just may need to be more explicit in your query if your search terms are potentially ambiguous.”

The porn is still there. You just have to try a little harder to get it. Google wants to make you work for it.

This will actually just make it a lot easier to find real images of things that could be considered a double entendre, especially at work. It will be nice to be able to look for pictures of jugs and actually find pictures of jugs for a change. Maybe I’ll go give that a shot… nope. Looks like Google hasn’t quite mastered this filtering business just yet. Probably best not to search for the word “jugs” at work just yet.

Yep, you have to work real hard to turn off safe search, especially when the button’s right above the images you searched for. Also, isn’t safesearch old news?

Google is evil! Glad I switched to Bing beginning of this year.

This article was a bit ambiguous. It looked like you were talking about the safe search feature.

    “tit bang” still works.

You seem to be confused, you see your supposed to choose the lesser evil, not the greater.

Even previously, SafeSearch wasn’t quite so safe. It’s now even safer!

How so? The very first sentence says that Google’s added a new filter to their image search. Not being snarky, more curious. Was it the image?

I don’t know, for some reason I assumed one image filter (safe search) was the only image filter he could be talking about. It seemed weird to put in another one, when there’s already one to suit that exact purpose. I’d just figure they’d improve or update the existing safe search filter to do what was described.

I searched “breasts” and on the first page there was not ONE picture of a nipple. ALL images were clothed. I call that censorship, regardless of what they say. Google has sold out. So what else is there?
