The Hobbit Trilogy Watch: Part 2 Gets a Name, Part 3 Dated

As everyone already knows, Peter Jackson has split up his production of The Hobbit into a trilogy, instead of just two movies like he initially planned. That’s old news. Now that he’s ripped that band-aid off, Jackson has released the new trajectory of the trilogy, including names for both the second and third parts of the series, and the release date for the last movie.  Not much has changed about the first two movies; both films are coming out the same day as Jackson originally planned. Not everything about the second movie is as it was, though. Now that it isn’t the final movie in the series, “The Hobbit: Part Deux” has a new, Smaug-ier name.

The second Hobbit movie will henceforth be known as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. It’s a very ominous title because, as we all know, the second movie in a trilogy has to be dark one. The Desolation of Smaug is still coming out on December 13th, 2013.

Meanwhile, as the new Hobbit finalé, the third movie has taken the original title for the second film: The Hobbit: There and Back Again. The third Hobbit movie is on track to come to theaters on July 18th, 2014. By then I imagine we’ll all be ready to burn every piece of Lord of The Rings paraphenalia to the ground. Then again, maybe the movies will be so good, we’ll still be begging for more.

The first Hobbit film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, comes out December 14th.

Brevity is the soul of wit, Peter.

I want The Hobbit, not nine more hours of Lord of the Rings.

I have read the book numerous times, one of the few books I have ever read more than once, but I am sad to say I won’t be seeing these movies when they are released. I will wait for the DVD version with all the extra scenes added and all that jazz. I also don’t like seeing a movie and then having to wait a year to see the next part, I would rather see them all at once.

    What extra scenes?

They couldn’t possibly have any left over if they want to be able to fill the time of three movies…

Even if there were any extra footage available, why would you want to see it after *already* watching 6 hours just for “The Hobbit”?

Unbelievable. One film would be perfect, two is really stretching it, and three is simply out of control.

As far as I m concerned they made a bloody mistake. I was midly interested in watching the hobbit but would have most likely paid my ticket once it would have hit theathers. I liked the book as a kid and the LoR were nice. Two parts ? now it was deathly hallows and twlight syndrome. I was starting to get pissed off but ok let’s give them the benefit of a doubt. Now it’s three parts? guess what : go f…. yourself. I hate to be taken for a ride. I skipped avatar; I will skip the hobbit altogetehr. I hope the movies bomb big time. post 3d conversion , remake, splitting,… you want my money so bad ? work for it,Stop trying to use tricks. and comes up with something original and honest.

shot in 3D, not post production… the most beautiful movie I have seen, breathtaking.

frankly, I would watch this every day and not get bored… don’t be a fool, get yourself to the cinema now

Wow, what a bunch of cry-babies!
I went to see The Hobbit last night, and as I expected, it was wonderful. I’m very happy with the release dates of the next two movies.

I dont know why everyone is complaining about it being a trilogy. If you look closely at the original version of the book, you will see that it too, is split into three parts. I watched the first movie last night and I found it Fantastic! even better than the LOTR even!
