The Hoverboard from Back to the Future 2 Returns as an Electric Skateboard for Charity [Video]

We are drawing extremely close to 2015, which is the year Marty McFly arrives in the future in Back to the Future Part 2. Unfortunately, we’re still quite a bit away from flying cars and skateboards, but ZBoard is going to bail us all out by coming in just under the wire with a replica of the movie’s hoverboard.

Alright, to get things done in time for 2015, they had to make it an electric skateboard instead of an actual hoverboard, but we’ll forgive them.

The proceeds go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which makes the hilariously bad promo video really a very endearing tribute. It’s kind of reminiscent of an actual `80s commercial.

The ZBoard skateboards themselves run on a rechargeable battery and reach speeds over 15 miles an hour just by pressing your feet down on little round areas of the board. It remains unclear how many gigawatts this requires, but it’s probably less than 1.21.

They’re a little pricey, so if you’d consider buying one, you might as well spring for the hoverboard model. We hope they had time to build it to scale.
