AT&T/iPad Hacker Arrested for Possession of Drugs

Last week, a group of hackers who called themselves “Goatse Security” found an alarming set of gaps in AT&T’s web security that allowed them to access personal information and data on more than 114,000 3G iPads. Then, they told AT&T about the security problem, AT&T patched it, and the hackers behind the exploit told Valleywag’s Ryan Tate about what happened, from whence it became a national news story.
Now, one of the hackers has been busted on charges that have nothing to do with the hacking: four felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor possession charge.
One of the hackers behind the AT&T iPad security breach has been arrested after police allegedly discovered cocaine, ecstasy and LSD during a search of his home.
Andrew Auernheimer, 24, who goes under the hacker handle “Weev”, was seized on Tuesday by Arkansas County Sheriffs following the execution of an FBI search warrant. Police are not revealing what prompted the warrant.
